WAYR-New

Casee: I’ve been reading! There have been two quiet weeks since graduation ended and I have read two entire books and am working on a third. I read Claimed and Hunted by Rebecca Zanetti. I liked Claimed, but loved Hunted. This series is going to be on my top five of the year. I heart it. And I still have five more books to read. I’m super excited.

I’m now reading Ocean Light by Nalini Singh. I’ve been putting it off because I’ve never been super excited about human heroes/heroines. They’re just not as interesting as Psy/Changelings. I have always been intrigued by Bowen Knight, but I still feel meh. I’m not quite one chapter in and I’m enjoying it so far. I’m somewhat ashamed of myself for not having more faith in Nalini. Don’t tell.

Holly: I planned to read a lot of books this week, but instead I spent the entire week re-reading the Kate Daniels series. I’m reading them in order, including all novellas and free short stories in anticipation of Magic Triumphs in August. I meant to read a few here and there until I was caught up, instead I’ve been binge-reading.

This week I read and/or listened to A Questionable Client (Free), Curran POV Collection: Unicorn Lane (free), Curran POV Collection: Fernandos (free), Curran POV Collection: Soup (free), Curran POV Collection: Midnight Games (free), Curran POV Collection: Hot Tub (free), Magic Mourns, Curran POV Collection: Kate’s Origin (free), Curran POV Collection: Naked Dinner (free), Magic Bleeds, Curran POV Collection: Conclave (free), Curran POV Collection: Awake (free) Magic Dreams, Magic Slays, Magic Gifts, Curran Twitter: The Wilson Building (free) and Gunmental Magic.

I’m currently reading Magic Rises.

Rowena: It’s been such a great reading week for me, especially compared to the previous weeks where I only read one book. I started off this week, finishing up Burn for You by J.T. Geissinger, which was an enjoyable beauty and the beast retelling. I listened to a good chunk of the book in audio but that wasn’t working for me since I kept picturing Gretcher from Suits as the heroine and while I love Gretchen, I think she’s a little too old to be picturing as Bianca. shrugs Still, I enjoyed the book. After that, I read I Flipping Love You by Helena Hunting, which was another enjoyable book. I like the humor that Hunting provides and I loved the heck out of the hero but the heroine makes a huge leap in the story regarding the hero that pissed me off and while it didn’t ruin the book, I did want to pull the heroine’s hair.

After that, I jumped into I Think I Love You by Lauren Layne because…duh. It’s Lauren Layne. I will always drop whatever I’m reading to pick up one of her contemporary romances. I wasn’t disappointed either. I adored Hunter and Brit’s story and I’m super sad that we’re completely done with the Oxford and Stiletto folks but I thought Layne did a wonderful job wrapping this story up.

This was me after finishing I Think I Love You:

All of my babies were together, happy and in love. There were babies and weddings and just all of the good things so I’m still riding that high but I’m not going to stop reading so next up is Always Never Yours by Emily Wibberley. It’s a contemporary YA that looks super cute and I’m stoked to start it. After this, I plan on reading The One You Can’t Forget by Roni Loren.

I just finished Stud in the Stacks by Pippa Grant which was cute and featured a male librarian who loves romance and has a romance blog. I’m currently reading Dancing in the Rain by Kelly Jamieson. It’s really good, but pretty heavy. The storyline involves a washed-up hockey player who learns he’s the father of an 11 YO whose mother is dying. He falls for the woman’s sister who is going to be the child’s guardian. He’s struggling with forced retirement from the sport he loves as well as learning to be a father. I’d definitely recommend it, but I’m having to put it down and take breaks because it’s so emotional.

Nalini Singh is my favorite author I have read everything she has ever written. I have read Guild Hunters 10 times, every time a new Psy-Changeling or Guild Hunter books comes out I do a re-read! When I can’t afford them I get them from the library. I met Nalini at Comic Con 2 years ago, she is brilliant, sweet, kind, generous and extremely talented!

    Recent reads here ~

    — the Australian set male/male historical romance By The Currawong’s Call by Welton B. Marsland; this is a book I plan to re-read.
    — a quick and enjoyable collection of essays: Pops: Fatherhood in Pieces by Michael Chabon
    — the contemporary romance Falling Hard: A Colorado High Country Novel by Pamela Clare. While this is the third book in a series, it stands alone well. I found this a pleasant read and it even made me cry a time or two; I don’t think it’s a book I’ll re-read.
    — Lucy Parker’s contemporary romance Making Up (London Celebrities) which I quite enjoyed.
    — Much of my time this week has been spent reading a series by Charles Stross. I read books three through five: The Clan Corporate, The Merchants’ War, and The Revolution Business. I started this series last week and have been enjoying it.

I’m re-reading Nalini’s ‘Silver Silence’ to get ready for Bo’s story. Can’t wait to find out what happens!

I am reading Thea Harrison Dragon Bound. It’s different from what I thought it would be. The humour makes me laugh out loud. Haven’t finished yet but already wondering what the next book in the series will be.

  8. Kareni

You are quite welcome, Veronica. I’m happy to learn that A Dragon’s Family Album is also free in Australia. Re-reading my comment, I fear I may have misled you – Oracle’s Moon does not feature Pia and Dragos as leads though they do make a small appearance. The main leads are the Oracle and a djinn.
