WAYR-New

Casee: Wow, July has been a busy month for me. First I was in Alaska. Last week I was camping, and next week we are visiting family. As you can imagine, I have had almost zero time to read. Which bums me out because if you read our June Monthly Reads post, you saw that I didn’t read one book in June. I wasn’t in a slump exactly, I just didn’t have time. Summer is crazy for us.

I am actually reading a book, if you can believe it. I’m reading The Darkest Promise by Gena Showalter. I love this series and have read it since the beginning. I really liked it when she was putting out two books a year. Alas, she’s down to one per year.

Holly: I can’t believe how quickly this summer is passing. My daughter goes back to school in just over two weeks. Crazy.

Things have been hectic (a theme for me lately) and I barely had time to think, much less read this week. I reread Storm’s Heart, Serpent’s Kiss and Oracle’s Moon by Thea Harrison. I didn’t intend to reread the entire series, but after a conversation with Tracy about Storm’s Heart and the new spin-off series, it looks like I’m headed in that direction.

Rowena: This week was pretty laid back for me, which has been fun since the last few months have been crazy busy. In a couple of weeks, my family will be descending upon Las Vegas for our final family vacation of the summer so I plan to get a lot of reading done before then.

This week, I read The Duchess Deal by Tessa Dare, which was freaking good. I thoroughly enjoyed that one and then I read The Imperfectly Perfect Match by Kendra C. Highley, which was fun. I also re-read Beyond the Highland Mist by Karen Marie Moning for book club this coming Monday. Now, I’m reading Love in the Friend Zone by Molly E. Lee. So far, so good.

WAYR-New

Holly: I had a pretty lame reading week. I re-read a few books, but didn’t manage to get through anything new. I started several books, but nothing held my attention. Hopefully I can dig into a few books this weekend.

I reread White Hot and Wildfire by Ilona Andrews, Fairytale Come Alive and The Gamble by Kristen Ashley and Dragon Bound by Thea Harrison.

Rowena: Well, I did manage to finally get some reading done last night. I read and finished Ready to Run by Lauren Layne and I enjoyed it. I’ve been reading some so-so reviews on this book around the web and I think that’s why I took so long to read it. I mean, sure it’s not my favorite Lauren Layne book but it was still an enjoyable read. I really enjoyed Luke and Jordan and I’m mighty curious to meet this Gage guy in the next book. Woot!

Today I’m starting When It’s Real by Erin Watt. It’s a buddy read with Bookish Ames and it’s a book that I’ve been itching to read for myself. I really love this writing duo and I’m so looking forward to what they bring with When It’s Real. After that, I need to get my book club book read so I’ll jump into Beyond the Highland Mist by Karen Marie Moning.

Casee: Casee is having a blast in Alaska and we’re super jealous. She’ll be back next week to share what she’s been reading. 🙂

Holly: This has been a pretty lame reading week for me. I started several books, but none of them worked for me. I DNF’d The Darkest Corner by Liliana Hart, Wired by Julie Garwood and Wolf’s Mate by Celia Kaye. I plan to go back to The Darkest Corner at some point. I wasn’t into the story, but I think that had more to do with me than the book. Wired by JG just didn’t grab me. Wolf’s Mate was ridiculous. I wanted to like the story, but both main characters made such ridiculous choices I couldn’t keep going.

I finished All I Ever Wanted by LuAnn McLane. I’m still deciding how I feel about it.

Rowena: It’s been a slow reading week for me. I started Ready to Run by Lauren Layne and got one chapter in and haven’t picked up a book since. It’s a mood thing so I’m hoping that things will turn around next week. Wish me luck!

Casee: I got nothing. I haven’t read a single word since last Friday. Technically I’m still reading Archangel’s Viper even though I haven’t picked it up in a week. The Stone Warriors: Kato by D.B. Reynolds released today and I’m hoping that will capture my interest. I’m not hopeful. If Nalini Singh can’t do it, no one can.

Holly: Things have been pretty busy for me this month, so my reading has been really hit or miss. I might go a full week or ten days without reading a book, then finish three in a day. It’s weird. Since we skipped the last few weeks, I’m just going to list out my most recent reads, even though some of them were from longer than a week ago.

I read Archangel’s Viper by Nalini Singh. It was fabulous. I’ve been dying for more about Holly since book one, and Viper didn’t disappointed. So.Good. I finally read Moonshadow by Thea Harrison, then dove right in to Spellbinder, the next book in the series. Both were really fabulous. I’m sorry I waited so long to read them. I read Stay by Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy. It was a cute contemporary romance. I’m anxious to read the first book now. I re-read Burn for Me by Ilona Andrews (currently $2.99 for Kindle), then followed up with White Hot and Wildfire, books 2 and 3 in that series. I’m so sad they’re over. I need more!

Aside from that I re-read some favorite Julie Garwood novels; Saving Grace, The Lion’s Lady and Honor’s Splendour were just as great this time around.

Now I’m reading Wired by Garwood. I don’t usually have a lot of success with her contemporary novels, but I’m going to give it try.

Rowena: Last week was such a busy week with graduations and graduation parties to prepare and attend so I wasn’t read a lot of anything. I did manage to finish Some Kind of Hero by Suzanne Brockmann and then read Stay by Sarina Bowen & Elle Kennedy. This week, I read Eye Candy by Jessica Lemmon and Lucky in Love by Kasie West. I also read How to Change a Life by Stacey Ballis and am now reading Ready to Run by Lauren Layne. I’m really happy with the books that I’m reading so no complaints from me this week.

Casee: I have not read one book this month. It’s pathetic. I was reading Going Dark by Monica McCarty, but I gave it a break. It is a possible DNF because of the politics in it. I really hate leaving books unread, so it’s highly possible that I’ll go back to it. Currently I’m reading Archangel’s Viper by Nalini Singh. Everyone loves her Psy/Changeling series (as do I), but the Guild Hunter series is my favorite. It’s gritty and powerful. I’m actually having a hard time getting into it. So I’m starting to think it’s me. Hello.

Holly: I’m on vacation this week (hooray vacation!). One would think that vacation would equal tons of reading time, but we’ve been busy snorkeling and swimming. I managed to read Archangel’s Viper this week. It was fabulous. I loved Viper and I especially loved Holly (I’m pretty sure Nalini Singh used me as her inspiration for the character. No big deal. I mean, she didn’t say so but it’s pretty obvious, right?). Next up is Spellbinder by Thea Harrison. If I don’t have time tomorrow I plan to read it on the plane home Sunday.

Rowena: It’s been a pretty busy week for me with prom last weekend and my kid’s graduation coming up next week. A lot of preparation going on (haha, not really), mostly it’s just me watching how to make money lei videos on YouTube, haha. I did manage to get some reading done.

To start the week, I read Fantasy Lover by Sherrilyn Kenyon for book club. That was a great re-read. It’s been so long since I read a Dark Hunter or rather, a Sherrilyn Kenyon book and I enjoyed it. What’s surprising for me is that my sisters really enjoyed it too. They enjoyed it so much that they’re both knee deep in the Dark Hunter series and they hate paranormal romances. Yay for book club changing their lives. Ha! After that, I read I Knew You Were Trouble by Lauren Layne, Dating You, Hating You by Christina Lauren, and Wired by Julie Garwood. I enjoyed all of the books and my favorite read of the week is probably I Knew You Were Trouble by Lauren Layne. Nick and Taylor were great and Lauren Layne once again made me thirsty for more Oxford stories so I’m a happy camper there.

Right now, I’m reading Some Kind of Hero by Suzanne Brockmann. I’ve only read the first chapter but I’m hopeful that I’ll enjoy this one too.
