We skipped October, so we’re doing a double list this month.

MR-New

Holly: Both October and November were surprisingly good reading months for me. I felt like I barely read anything, but my numbers were great. Granted, I did do a lot of re-reading, but still. I’ll take it.

I did a lot of re-reading in October, but I think my favorite new read of the month was November 9 by Colleen Hoover, followed by The Game Plan by Kristen Callihan. November 9 wrecked me. Just totally wrecked me. I really loved Dex and Fiona in The Game Plan.

My least favorite read of the month was Secret Sisters by Jayne Ann Krentz. I liked the romance, but the bumbling mystery plot was such a mess it totally killed the book for me.

In November  I binge-read the Kate Daniels by Ilona Andrews. It started out slow but really picked up as the series wore on. I really like the world and the characters. I’m excited to continue, though I am taking a break now. I don’t wan to burnout on the series.

My favorite read of the series so far is probably Magic Rises. My least favorite is Magic Bites.

Rowena: Every year, towards the end of the year, my reading slows down. I’m not sure if it’s because I pushed myself throughout the rest of the year to meet my reading challenges or what but whatever it is, I didn’t get a lot of reading done in the last couple of months.

Here’s what I did read though.

October: 10

  1. Falling for the Wrong Guy by Sara Hantz | 2 out of 5
  2. Kissing Her Crazy by Kira Archer | 3 out of 5
  3. True North (True #1) by Liora Blake | 4 out of 5
  4. True Devotion (True #2) by Liora Blake | 4.5 out of 5
  5. True Divide (True #3) by Liora Blake | 3.5 out of 5
  6. Walk through Fire (Chaos #4) by Kristen Ashley | 3.5 out of 5
  7. November 9 by Colleen Hoover | 5 out of 5
  8. Game On by Katie McCoy | 1.5 out of 5
  9. Falling into Bed with a Duke (Hellions of Havisham #1) by Lorraine Heath | 4.5 out of 5
  10. The Fifteenth Minute (Ivy Years #5) by Sarina Bowen | 4 out of 5

My favorite reads of the month go to True Devotion by Liora Blake, November 9 by Colleen Hoover and Falling into Bed with a Duke by Lorraine Heath. I loved all of these books. Simon from True Devotion completely rocked my socks, November 9 completely wrecked me and I loved the romance between Minerva and Ashe in Falling into Bed with a Duke. I loved each of these books in different ways but I loved them all equally. So much good. Honorable mentions go to The Fifteenth Minute by Sarina Bowen. That was another fantastic and well-written novel.

My least favorite read for the month of October goes to Game On by Katie McCoy. I went into this book thinking that I would enjoy it but unfortunately, that didn’t happen. I couldn’t connect with the characters, the story and when I finished the book, I was glad it was done. It’s always a bummer when a book you wanted to read just doesn’t work for you.

November: 6

  1. The Game Plan (Game On #3) by Kristen Callihan | 4.25 out of 5
  2. One King’s Way (On Dublin Street #6.5) by Samantha Young | 3 out of 5
  3. A Wrong Bed Christmas by Liz Talley & Kimberly Van Meter | 4 out of 5
  4. Overruled (Legal Briefs #1) by Emma Chase | 2 out of 5
  5. Sustained (Legal Briefs #2) by Emma Chase | 5 out of 5
  6. How to Be Brave by E. Katherine Kottaras | DNF
  7. A Wrong Bed Christmas by Kimberly Van Meter & Liz Talley | 4 out of 5
  8. Seven Nights of Surrender by Jeanette Grey | 4.5 out of 5
  9. Heat Exchange by Shannon Stacey | 3 out of 5

Holly read more in one month than I did in both months. I need to step my game up. In the month of November, I was busy with basketball with birthday celebrations so my reading continued to be slow. My favorite read from last month was Sustained by Emma Chase. I freaking loved that book. I loved Jake. I loved Chelsea. I loved all of the kids and the romance that blossomed between Jake and Chelsea. Even when they were both being boneheads, I loved the book. It was so freaking good.

What’s funny is that my least favorite read of the month goes to Overruled by Emma Chase. The hero worked every freaking nerve in my body and just, the whole story got on my nerves. I was mad at the hero, I was mad at the heroine for letting the hero get away with being a shit-head because she let him get away with so much for too long. I just couldn’t even with this damn book but boy did the second book in this series make up for the wreck that I was during this book.

This month we’re giving away:

A Kate Daniels Novel by Ilona Andrews (winner’s choice from books 1-7)
The Game Plan by Kristen Callihan
True Devotion by Liora Blake
Sustained by Emma Chase

  1. Ah, Holly, you literally stopped right before the best book in the series so far, IMO. “Magic Breaks” pays off in a huge way. I finally got “Magic Shifts” from the library in October, and it was another solid installment. Enjoy!

    • I keep hearing that. Maybe I’ll go back and read Magic Breaks then take a break for awhile. I’m curious to know what happens with Hugh and I keep thinking about it. Sure signs I won’t be able to resist long.

  2. Kareni

One of my very favorite books from October was Carry the Ocean by Heidi Cullinan; I recommend it. I also liked her Dance With Me.

It wasn’t a terrible read, but it just lost me about twenty five percent of the way in (who knows? I may give it a try another time): Rainbow Rowell’s Carry On.

I’d love to win either of the following ~ The Game Plan by Kristen Callihan or True Devotion by Liora Blake.

  3. I read 13 books in Oct. and 14 in Nov. My favorites for both months were mysteries/thrillers. In Oct, I read an ARC of Lisa Scottoline’s Corrupted; it’s one of my favorites of the year. In Nov., The Promise by Robert Crais topped my list. My least favorites were Love After Dark by Marie Force (Oct.) and Come Home to Me by Brenda Novak (Nov.)–but both were okay. If I win, I’d like to win one of the Kate Daniels novels.

  4. JenM

I agree 100% on Sustained by Emma Chase – that and Hollywood Dirt by Alessandra Torre were my favorite reads in November. In October, my favorites were a mystery set in Saudi Arabia called City of Veils by Zoe Ferraris, and Lothaire by Kresley Cole. Least favorites were The Source by J.D Horn, and Virtuous by MS Force. I love her books written as Marie Force, and I did initially enjoy this start of a trilogy, but I cheated and read a spoiler and I really dislike how the trilogy ends, so it colored my opinion of the book I read.

I would love to win The Game Plan or True Devotion. Both are high on my wish list. The heroes in those books sound absolutely yummy.

  5. My favorite November reads were Incumbent by Joanne Schwehm, Unlawful Justice by KC Lynn and K Langston, and Hearts of Blue by LH Cosway. My least favorites were Redemption by Alla Kar and Rescued by Phoebe Rose. Thanks for the giveaway!
