Naasir is the most feral of the powerful group of vampires and angels known as the Seven, his loyalty pledged to the Archangel Raphael. When rumors surface of a plot to murder the former Archangel of Persia, now lost in the Sleep of the Ancients, Naasir is dispatched to find him. For only he possesses the tracking skills required - those more common to predatory animals than to man.

Enlisted to accompany Naasir, Andromeda, a young angelic scholar with dangerous secrets is fascinated by his nature - at once playful and brilliant, sensual and brutal. As they race to find the Sleeping archangel before it's too late, Naasir will force her to question all she knows...and tempt her to walk into the magnificent, feral darkness of his world. But first they must survive an enemy vicious enough to shatter the greatest taboo of the angelic race and plunge the world into a screaming nightmare...

Naasir and Andromeda are two very different people. Their childhoods (if you can call them that) were vastly different as are their lives now. Andromeda lives in the Refuge and is a scholar alongside Jessamy. Naasir is a member of the archangel Raphael’s Seven and is a being like no other – a man called a vampire who is not a vampire – and is almost constantly on the move. Naasir has been looking for his mate for seven moths now and when he meets Andromeda he thinks she smells like his mate but after one night together he knows that can’t possibly be true.

When the pair set off to find the sleeping ancient they get to know more about each other and find that they like each other. Naasir was wrong about Andromeda’s supposed prissiness and now he knows she’s a warrior at heart (along with being a scholar) and Andromeda loves that Naasir is just completely transparent. He is who he is and he makes no excuses about that. Like him or don’t, he really doesn’t care. He is a loyal member of the Seven and loves the people he considers his family very deeply.

Despite the fact that Andromeda thinks she knows where the sleeping ancient lies, getting there won’t be easy. Naasir and Andromeda have to survive a kidnapping by a vicious woman, fierce battles and a bit of an adventure in caving to complete their mission and they might not survive it all

I love Nalini Singh’s books. Her writing is amazing and I’m constantly surprised at the way her brain works! The wonderful stories she tells keep me fascinated and I loved this one as much as her previous books.

In this book not only do we get a wonderful, wonderful love story between Naasir and Andromeda but we get the continuing story of the Cascade and its effect on people everywhere – especially archangel’s. We find out what’s happening with the Cadre, Raphael and Elena, Illium and how the Cascade is affecting him as well as a visit into Lijuan’s, Alexander’s and Charisemnon’s territories. It was fantastic and kept me on the edge of my seat!

The romance was so very sweet. Andromeda is a woman who has taken a vow of celibacy for fear she will go to excess as her parents have. She stated that she wouldn’t break that vow unless a certain grimoire, that is basically legend, is found. Once Naasir finds this out he is determined to find it and I loved how during most of the book he is so frustrated with not being able to have sex with Andromeda and he keeps muttering, “Stupid grimoire!” Hilarious. He knows that Andi, as he calls her, is his mate and eventually Andi knows that as well but Andi is hiding things and what she’s hiding makes her sad because she knows it means she can never be with Naasir. It was touching and emotional and I loved it. Parts of their relationship were so fun and funny and other parts just brought me to tears. So good.I can’t say enough about this book. It’s a incredible book that I think everyone should read – but you really should read the entire series as every book is this good.
