What Are You Reading? (+ Candis Terry Giveaway)

Casee: I’m reading a series by Michele Mills who is a new-to-me author. The series is called Catastrophe. It’s set in a post-apocalypse world. I am loving it. I’m currently on the second book, Kill for Me. I am really enjoying how intense the characters and their relationships are. They’re just adapting to the new world they live in and not wasting a moment. Which does mean that relationships are formed faster. Which is not for everyone. There are three books in the series so far and I can’t wait to finish them all.

I’m listening to A Stone in the Sea by A.L. Jackson. I continue to fall in love with this author with each book I read/listen to. Her stories are so compelling as are the characters. It’s the first book in the Bleeding Stars series. I’m also looking forward to reading the whole series.

Holly: I listened to The Wedding and Honor’s Splendour by Julie Garwood, and re-read Now You See Her by Linda Howard. For new-to-me reads, I listened to First Contact by Kat Green. I have to be honest, it was pretty bad. I’m still barely reading, so I’m not sure what I’m going to pick up next.

Rowena: Well, well, well…it is my fault that last week’s WAYR post did not go up and for that, I apologize. You guys missed an entire week of what we were reading because my life has been a freaking crazy rollercoaster for the last few months and I’m hoping and praying that it slows down so that I can catch my breath and catch up on everything that I’m behind on.

Anyway, in the last couple of weeks I read the following: Bringing Down the Duke by Evie Dunmore, Shadow Music by Julie Garwood, We Met in December by Rosie Curtis and I’m finishing up The Play by Elle Kennedy because after I finish it, I’ll be jumping back into Well Met by Jenn Deluca and then I’m not sure what’s next. I really want to make the most of my reading time since it’s been so iffy the last little while and I want to read all of the books while I still want to read. I’ve been going through moods of YES I WANT TO READ EVERYTHING to not wanting to read anything. Send help!

Declan Kincade has spent so much time chasing success he’s almost forgotten how to just live. Lately though, his all-business routine has been thrown into disarray. Brooke Hastings is the best employee Dec’s ever had: polished, capable, and intelligent. After four years, he’s just realized that she’s also smoking hot. But their working relationship is too valuable to stake on a fling, no matter how mind-bendingly pleasurable it promises to be.

What’s worse than never meeting the right man? Finding him, and then working side-by-side every day while he remains absolutely blind to your existence. That is, until one temptation-packed road-trip changes everything. Teaching her gorgeous, driven boss how to cut loose and have fun is the toughest challenge Brooke’s ever faced. But it’s one that could give both of them exactly what they need, if Dec will take a chance on a perfect—and perfectly unexpected—love.

I read Kate Canterbary’s FAR CRY and HARD PRESSED, two books on her Talbott’s Cove series. I loved them—especially FAR CRY which has a prickly heroine and a grumpy hero, neither of whom is magically transformed into a different person by luuuurve.

Over the past two weeks ~

    — My book group book also worked for the Judge a Book By Its Cover for my reading challenge from a different site ~ I read This is How It Always Is by Laurie Frankel. The front cover of the book shows an orange peel while the back shows a whole orange. I can only recall one mention of oranges in the book and cannot figure out the relevance of the cover to the story; nonetheless, it’s an attractive cover!
This was an intriguing story about Rosie and Penn and their five sons. Claude, the youngest, likes wearing dresses. Life becomes challenging when he starts school. The family moves cross country soon after a traumatic incident, and Claude/now Poppy and family are keepers of a big secret. This is not a romance though Rosie and Penn have a romantic courtship and marriage. Life is mostly happy for them all but keeping a secret is stressful, and Poppy’s secret is revealed one day. I enjoyed this book and would recommend it. In the author’s note, she reveals that this book is not a memoir but that her little boy is now a little girl.
    — I stayed up way too late finishing Maria Vale’s Forever Wolf (The Legend of All Wolves); I enjoyed it.
–And I finished a short romance; it was pleasant, but it’s not a book I expect to reread. The Botanist by Dahlia Donovan.

    — Memoirs of an Imaginary Friend: A Novel by Matthew Dicks which I read on one day. I quite liked it and had several conversations about it with my husband. It was both entertaining and thought provoking.
    — Let’s Get Textual (Texting Series Book 1) by Teagan Hunter which is a contemporary romance. It was an entertaining read, but I don’t think it’s a book I’ll be rereading.
    — I read and admired Mah Jongg: The Art of the Game: A Collector’s Guide to Mah Jongg Tiles and Sets by Ann Israel and Gregg Swain. I began playing mah jongg this summer thus my interest in this book.
    — For my Older or Younger Hero challenge from a different site ~
I reread Lyn Gala’s Claimings which is my favorite m/m series and consists of four books. The two main characters are Liam and Ondry. Liam is in his late 30s, from Earth, serving as a linguistics tech in the military, a submissive with lots of baggage from past abusive relationships. Ondry is Rownt (two legged, egg-born, looking somewhat turtle like to humans); he is a skilled trader who is driven to succeed, two hundred on a planet where living to a thousand is not unknown. When the book begins, Liam and Ondry have been trading for five years. Much of the story deals with cultural and language differences. There is a lot of tenderness in the relationship between Liam and Ondry, but this is definitely NOT a G-rated book.

I just finished and absolutely loved Sarah Morgan’s Sunset in Central Park, Matt is everything I adore in a book boyfriend!

I just read an amazing Sci Fi and I love Post Apocalyptic reads, a guilty pleasure of mine I guess. I read Reaper Moon by Ted Neill, tenebraypress.com for his info and info on the book. He’s writes so well that I just find myself forgetting that I’m not in his book!!
