Casee: I’m reading All of Me by A.L. Jackson. She’s a new-to-me author. I read the first book in her Confessions of the Heart series & really enjoyed it. All of Me is turning out to be even better.

I’m glomming Meghan March on audio. I listened to White Knight which is the second book in her Dirty Mafia Duet. I’m now listening to the Dirty Billionaire trilogy. I am really loving this author.

Holly: I didn’t read much this week. Things have been super crazy with back-to-school stuff and a major project I have going at work. I listened to Never Have I Ever by Lauren Blakely, which I adored, and read The Darkling Bride by Laura Andersen, which was just okay. I also read The Governess Affair by Courtney Milan, which is a prequel to The Duchess War, after Tracy browbeat me into it. I loved it. I’m glad she forced talked me into it.

I started both Marry Me by Jo Goodman and Hope’s Folly by Linnea Sinclair to finish out our Summer Reading Challenge, but I didn’t get far into either of them. I’m hoping to finish them both this weekend. I’m currently listening to The Iron Duke by Meljean Brook, and it’s just as fabulous as I remember. This is my first time listening to the audio. I’m enjoying the narrator.

Rowena: This week, I read The Wallflower Wager (Girl Meets Duke #3) by Tessa Dare and I adored it. Penny and Gabe’s story was another fabulous historical romance and I can’t wait for Nicola’s book. I also finished Never Have I Ever by Lauren Blakely and OMG, I freaking LOVED that one. I listened to that book with a giant grin on my face because I loved everything so much. That book gets so much love from me. I also read The Duchess in My Bed (Sins for All Seasons #4) by Lorraine Heath and that was another emotional journey for me. This is hands down, my favorite series from Lorraine Heath and I have enjoyed all of the books that I’ve read by her. Gah, so stinkin’ good.

Right now, I’m finishing up my listen of The Iron Duke (Iron Seas #1) by Meljean Brook and I’m really into it. So good. I’m also reading Coming Up Roses by Staci Hart for a buddy read with Ames. It’s still early days so I don’t know if I like it or hate it yet. I’ll tell you guys next week.

WAYR-New

Casee: Not much has changed for me from last week. I’m still reading Too Far Gone by Christy Reece. I have had more time in the last two days to read than I’ve had in the past week. I’m almost finished with the book. It’s enjoyable, but predictable. Which is saying something coming from me. The next book I’m going to pick up is Of Blood and Bone by Nora Roberts. It’s the second book in her Chronicles of the One series. I’m curious to see where this series heads.

I DNF’ed Worth the Fight by Vi Keeland because the narrators were simply awful. I still might read it because there is a possibility that it may be good without the narrators. I started Hard Hitter by Sarina Bowen this morning on the way to work, which is book two in the Brooklyn Bruisers series. I’m already loving it and I don’t think I’ve listened to an entire chapter yet.

Holly: My reading has dropped off considerably this week. I ended up DNF’ing Jaxson (Riverwise Private Security #1) by Alisa Woods. I liked the premise, but the characters did a lot of things that didn’t make sense. Plus, the hero smirked a lot. Like, a lot, a lot. It was annoying. I might try to read it someday, rather than listening to the audio, but for now I set it aside. I listened to Never Enough by Lauren Dane but it basically took me the entire week. Things have just been crazy.

I’m currently listening to Feral Sins by Suzanne Wright. I read this years ago, but after a few books I lost track of the series. I wanted to catch up, but I felt like I needed a refresher first. I’m really enjoying the narration.

Rowena: Just like every year, my reading in December takes a hike. I read just one book this week and I read that because I had to get it read for book club tonight. When I first started the book, Hawke’s personality and the way that he talked to Gwen infuriated me. I didn’t care what happened in his past to make him the way that he was, I didn’t think it was okay to do ALL of the things that he did and said to Gwen. In the end, I didn’t HATE him but I didn’t exactly love him either. I felt his pain but still…the overall book was problematic as hell for me too. But yeah, that was the book I read this week. Mystery Man by Kristen Ashley. What did you guys read?

THE PICTURE OF ROMANCE

A wallflower determined to fulfill a dying promise, the rogue she jilted years ago, and an orphaned baby are all brought together amidst the magic of Christmas in this new novella from Manda Collins.

Miss Merry Parks makes a deathbed promise to a schoolfriend that her infant daughter will be taken to her absent father. There’s only one problem—to find the baby’s father, she’ll have to consult his cousin, Viscount Wrotham, the man she jilted five years ago. The man she couldn’t forget.

Alex Ponsonby, Viscount Wrotham, is stunned to find Merry Parks—looking more lovely than ever--on his doorstep with an infant in her arms. His shock soon turns to dismay when he learns his own cousin William is the man who abandoned his wife and child. As head of the family he’s duty bound to see right is done. But he can't let this opportunity pass. He’ll take Merry and the baby to his cousin, but he’ll woo her back in the process.

Merry agrees to travel with Alex and the baby to Wrotham Castle, where the entire Ponsonby family has gathered for Christmas, but her plans to see the baby settled then leave are ruined by a snowstorm. After five years apart, Alex and Merry will spend the week getting reacquainted. Perhaps it’s the spirit of the holiday, or the magic of the season, but there could be something else in the air this Yuletide…A Christmas Reunion.

When Merry’s friend, Charlotte, gives birth she asks Merry to find the father for her right before she dies.  Charlotte had eloped but then her fiancé left her at her parents’ house and never returned.  The father is the cousin of Viscount Wrotham. Merry had been engaged to Viscount Wrotham five years ago but had ended the engagement despite her love for him.  She still loved him and it certainly made her anxious to have to go to his house to find baby Lottie’s father.

Alex Ponsonby, Viscount Wrotham, never stopped loving Merry Parks.  The note she’d left him ending their engagement was so vague he never truly figured out why she ended it.  He’s been in Paris but now that he’s back in London he’s determined to find Merry and see if he can win her back. He certainly doesn’t think she’ll knock on his door with a newborn asking for his cousin!  Alex is relieved when he finds out that the baby isn’t Merry’s, that’s for sure.  They determine that the cousin, Will, is at the family estate as it’s right before Christmas and Merry and Alex end up traveling together to deliver the baby.  Merry gets snowed in at Alex’s estate and can’t make it home for Christmas.  Alex is thrilled as this just means he gets to spend more time with Merry and he takes his chances with winning her back.

With This Christmas Ring turned out to be a lovely little Christmas surprise for me.  It was a sweet story that didn’t throw a lot drama into the story just for drama’s sake (although there was once part…).  I enjoyed Merry and her character as well as Alex’s.  The pair truly never stopped loving each other so it wasn’t all that difficult to get back together.  Family interference had sent Merry away once and it looked for a bit like it would happen again but it all turned out well in the end.

The story of Charlotte and Alex’ cousin, Will, was quite sad and made my heart break a little.  The situation was a tad distressing but had Charlotte not died then we wouldn’t have had a story so I had to keep reminding myself of that – despite the tragedy of it all.

In the end the story was a sweet, fast read and one I definitely enjoyed
