Casee

I was on vacation last week, which I hoped would mean more reading time for me. Life has been crazy. I ended February the way I started it. By not really reading anything. March is going the same way.

In my pile for vacation I had three Kristen Ashley books (surprise, surprise). Rock Chick Revenge, Rock Chick Reckoning, and Rock Chick Regret. In addition to those three, I have Shadow Storm by Christine Feehan and An Offer From a Gentleman by Julia Quinn. Maybe this week.

Since last time…

I finished Hell or High Water by Hailey Edwards, then read Fish Out of Water, the last book in the Gemini series. I enjoyed it, but I’m not ready to jump into the continuation series yet.

I read House on the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune, which was a lot of fun. I listened to Murder on Cold Street by Sherry Thomas, the 5th book in the Lady Sherlock series. I think it was my favorite of the series to date.

I read the first two books in the Valkyrie Bestiary series by Kim McDougall based on a recommendation I received here. Dragon’s Don’t Eat Meat, book 1, was super fun. I really loved the story, critters and world. Dervishes Don’t Dance, book 2, didn’t work quite as well for me. I started book 3, Hell Hounds Don’t Heel, but I was having a hard time getting into it so I set it aside for later. I listened to Night of the Living Deed by EJ Cooperman. It was a light listen. I’m not sure if I’ll continue the series.

I re-read The Hook Up by Kristen Callihan (Drew <3), The Return of Eden McCall by Judith Duncan, Complicated by Kristen Ashley and I’m currently re-reading The Secret by Julie Garwood.

I believe I’m going to start When He’s an Alpha by Suzanne Wright next.

Rowena

Rowena isn’t reading anything right now. Let’s send good reading vibes her way!

    Over the past week ~

    — The Last Sun (The Tarot Sequence Book 1) by K. D. Edwards; I quite enjoyed the book and was sorry to see that my library does not own the second book of the planned nonology.
    — a book that my daughter has recommended for years, The Thief (The Queen’s Thief Book 1) by Megan Whalen Turner; it was a very good read.
    — the science fiction novella, Binti by Nnedi Okorafor; I’m now waiting for the next book in the trilogy to arrive from the library.
    — read and enjoyed the contemporary m/m romance, Tough Guy: A Gay Sports Romance (Game Changers Book 3) by Rachel Reid.
    — Winter’s Orbit by Everina Maxwell which I enjoyed. I’m curious to see if it is the first in a series. If yes, I’ll happily read on.
    — reread The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison; my local book group will be discussing this next week. It was my suggestion to the group, and I will be interested to learn what they think of it.

My favorite since last time was Sarah Mayberry’s SWEETHEART, a sensitively-written book about a woman who falls for her sister’s ex. The story is not only about the romance but also about a family struggling with a family member (the heroine’s sister) who has mental illness, and I thought Mayberry did an excellent job of describing the family dynamics. Highly recommended.

Sorry to hear that DERVISHES DON’T DANCE was a let down from the first book. I’ve got it waiting on my Kindle and had high hopes for the series. I’ll give it a try and see what I think.

I read MAGICAL MIDLIFE LOVE by KF Breene, the fourth book in her paranormal women’s fiction series, in which we finally get a romance payoff for all the dancing around each other that the MC and her polar bear shifter hero have been doing up until now, so that made for an enjoyable book. I also just started MAKE IT SWEET by Kristen Callihan.
