What Are You Reading? (530)

Casee: You guys, I’m still reading the Rossi Crime Family series by J.L. Beck and C. Hallman. I’m reading Tame Me which is book four. When I was reading book three, I promised myself I wouldn’t read any more of the series. I lied to myself. I have no idea why I’m reading the series. I would never recommend these books. It’s a conundrum.

I finished listening to Magic Rises by Ilona Andrews yesterday. I LOVE THIS SERIES. Today I decided to give Echoes in Death by J.D. Robb a try on audio. Yeah, that one is a big no from me. I didn’t like the narrator at all. So now I’m listening to Magic Breaks and I love it, love it, love it.

Holly: I have had no reading time this week. I’m still listening to Entreat Me by Grace Draven. I started Rise of the Phoenix by Mason Sabre on Tracy’s recommendation, but I’ve only read a few pages so far. Hopefully I’ll have some reading time this weekend.

Rowena: It’s been a busy week for me and I haven’t had much reading time so I’m still making my way through Magic Binds by Ilona Andrews. My focus is being split between family stuff, work stuff and trying to keep hold of my sanity through this weird-ass time that we’re living in. But so far, I’m really enjoying Magic Binds and I’m hoping that this coming week will be a lot less chaotic so that I can focus better on the story.

What are you reading this week? Any new favorites or books that drove you crazy? Share!

@Casee: “I have no idea why I’m reading the series. I would never recommend these books. It’s a conundrum.” Sometimes you just find something that clicks with you, even if you can clearly see the flaws and would never feel comfortable recommending to others. I find that m like that with Georgia Le Carre: her characters are cardboard, her plots are total crazysauce, and I’m still not completely convinced that she doesn’t write in another language and just publish whatever Google Translate comes up with in English. And yet, and yet…as many times as I tell myself I’m not going to read her anymore, as soon as I see the next “Taken Captive By the Bratva Billionaire,” I’m there!

My favorite read this week was PAS DE DEUX by Lynn Turner. It was published in 2018 and is about the romance between a ballet dance and a choreographer.

I also enjoyed Mia Sheridan’s SEEK (also published in 2018) about a woman looking for her missing fiancé in Colombia. She gradually falls in love with the man she has hired to guide her there.

Rise of the Phoenix by Mason Sabre sounds interesting, Holly. I see it’s free for Kindle readers.

    Since last time ~

    – The Warrior’s Apprentice, The Mountains of Mourning, and The Vor Game all by Lois McMaster Bujold; I enjoyed them all.
    – a science fiction book that I won in a Goodreads giveaway: Skiathos by Boris L. Slocum. It was a pleasant read, but I don’t believe I’ll be re-reading it.
    – Unsouled (Cradle Book 1) by Will Wight which proved to be an enjoyable fantasy. I may continue on with the series (it’s fairly violent though).
    – Network Effect: A Murderbot Novel by Martha Wells which I quite enjoyed.

Hmm, trying again since the above post came out wonky.

    — The Warrior’s Apprentice, The Mountains of Mourning, and The Vor Game all by Lois McMaster Bujold; I enjoyed them all.
    — a science fiction book that I won in a Goodreads giveaway: Skiathos by Boris L. Slocum. It was a pleasant read, but I don’t believe I’ll be re-reading it.
    — Unsouled (Cradle Book 1) by Will Wight which proved to be an enjoyable fantasy. I may continue on with the series; it’s fairly violent though.
    — Network Effect: A Murderbot Novel by Martha Wells which I quite enjoyed.

The Dark Land by DM Shepard, dmshepard.com for the info. I love a great page turner that creeps me out a little! This is it. Set in the back woods of Alaska with creatures roaming the woods. It’s paranormal meets thriller meets horror and that can’t be anything but a great read! I recommend.
