What Are You Reading? (507)

Holly: I had a family emergency this week, so I had quite a bit of reading time but not a lot of brainpower to focus. I ended up re-reading some books instead of diving into anything new. I re-read Complicated and Own the Wind by Kristen Ashley, Dragon Bound by Thea Harrison and The Lion’s Lady by Julie Garwood. For new reads, I listened to Not So Nice Guy by R.S. Grey, which started out cute but kind of lost me in the middle, and Switch Hitter by Sara Ney, which was sweet as a romance, but the premise with the twins annoyed me.

I’m not sure what I’m going to read next. We’ll have to see how things go this weekend.

Rowena: I’ve got a lot going on, family-wise so my reading took another back seat to everything else. My birthday celebration, I’m planning a baby shower for my niece that is next Saturday but I did finally read a book last week. I read Goddess in Spring by P.C. Cast which was slow as hell, corny as hell and I was all too glad to be done with it once I finished. It took me too long to read that one. Now, I’m reading Lady Derring Takes a Lover by Julie Anne Long and so far, it’s pretty good. After I finish this one, I’ll be jumping into The Kingmaker and The Rebel King by Kennedy Ryan. I need to read this books bad.

What are you reading this week? Any new favorites or books that drove you crazy? Share!

I just read Tamsen Parker’s FOR HER OWN GOOD, about a woman who suffers from severe depression (which she manages successfully with therapy and ECT treatments). She reconnects (socially) with the therapist who treated her in when she was in her teens; a somewhat transgressive romance develops. There’s age gap and Daddy/little kink involved. It’s beautifully written, but CW/TW for descriptions of chronic depression and suicidal thoughts.

Sorry to hear about your family emergency, Holly. Rowena, I hope that you enjoy the baby shower. Hopefully there will be some calm times ahead for you both.

    Read this week ~

    — Nightchaser by Amanda Bouchet which I enjoyed; I’d describe it as a science fiction romance that’s pretty light on the science fiction. It was entertaining though I initially thought (incorrectly) that a very minor character might prove to be the hero. I’ll happily read the next book when it comes out; however, I don’t see myself rereading this book anytime soon.
    — Lincoln in the Bardo: A Novel by George Saunders for my book group. It was an unusual book, easy to read, yet poignant; I’d recommend it.
