WAYR-New

Holly: I read The Winter Over by Matthew Iden this week. It had flashes of brilliance in the writing and story, but in the end I felt like it was trying to hard to be too many things; horror, mystery and suspense. I would have liked it to focus more on one aspect over the others.

Rowena: This week has been a successful reading week for me because I read some books and I enjoyed them. I read Hard Hitter by Sarina Bowen and really enjoyed that. I’m super excited with how the series is shaping up and I cannot wait to read Beacon and Lauren’s book though I’m most looking forward to Becca and Nate. Oh man, Nate’s got it bad. I’m itching to see how he makes Becca notice him.

After that, I read my TBR Challenge book for next week, Winning the Wallflower by Eloisa James. That was another cute short romance that rocked my socks. Today, I will start on Satisfaction by Lexi Blake because I’m anxious for Bran’s story. That promises to be a good read.

What are you reading this week? Any new favorites or books that drove you crazy? Share!

I got totally swept up in Gambled Away, a historical anthology from Rose Lerner, Jeannie Lin, Molly O’Keefe, Joanna Bourne, and Isabel Cooper. I think it’s now been taken down and the authors are going to release their stories separately. There wasn’t a bad one in the bunch. I initially got it for the Rose Lerner and Molly O’Keefe stories, and I thoroughly enjoyed those, but as it turned out, my favorites were the ones by Jeannie Lin and Joanna Bourne. Both stories were part of series they’ve written, but I had no trouble following them and both are authors I’ve never read before, so now I’m really wanting to go back and read the other books in the series.

Now I’m reading The Billionaire Next Door by Jessica Lemmon and Bad Neighbor by Molly O’Keefe and enjoying both of them.

I read I’ve Got My Duke to Keep Me Warm by Kelly Bowen (maybe there’s something about the last name Bowen that makes for great books?) and loved it. Bowen has fast become one of my favorite author for historicals. I also read The Wedding Belles series (minus the first novella which I need to get) by Lauren Layne and absolutely loved them.

Right now I’m taking a break from reading my backlog of books by Layne (I have four more by her sitting on my kindle) to read The Rule Book and The Rule Maker by Jennifer Blackwood. I won an arc of The Rule Maker and since I had the first book sitting on my kindle, I decided to read that one first. I’m 17% on The Rule Book so far and I’m loving the author’s voice. Plus it has a hot tatted CEO! So far, so good.
