What Are You Reading? (305)

WAYR-New

Casee: I finally finished Deadly Silence by Rebecca Zanetti! I’m thrilled. It took me so stinking long to read this book that I almost gave up on it. Yesterday I started to read When All The Girls Have Gone by Jayne Ann Krentz. I’ve heard it was a really good book. Then again, I heard the Zanetti book was really good too and I did not give that book a good rating. I’m about four chapters into the Krentz and so far so good. I’m hoping to find some quality reading time this weekend. We’ll see because that never seems to happen, does it?

Holly: I actually had a great reading week. Last week I read Hard Hitter by Sarina Bowen. It was even better than Rookie Move. I ended up rereading it this week, just because. I also reread Saving Grace by Julie Garwood, Steadfast by Sarina Bowen and Dragon Bound and Oracle’s Moon by Thea Harrison (is it 2017 yet? I’m dying for a new Elder Races book!).

For new reads I read Keepsake by Sarina Bowen and Rules of Contact by Jaci Burton. Both were excellent.

I went back and started Guardian’s Mate by Jennifer Ashley again, but I’m still not feeling it. Every time the hero calls the heroine “Little Wolf” as a term of endearment, my left eye twitches. I may need to write this one off permanently.

I’m not sure what I’m going to read next. Maybe The Bear Who Loved Me by Kathy Lyons.

Rowena: I didn’t get very far into Ruled before I put it down to read Keepsake by Sarina Bowen and then because I had to get my book club book read before this coming Monday, I read Shadow Rider by Christine Feehan. I’m finished with both of those books now and I’m still not reading Ruled. I’m reading Twisted Palace by Erin Watt because…I’m ready to be ruined. Wish me luck on that one.

What are you reading this week? Any new favorites or books that drove you crazy? Share!

  1. Where’s Holly? Has she slipped out the back door, ran off with Judd (from Caressed By Ice) or buried under a TBR mountain? I think I can see her legs peeking out ala the Wicked Witch from the Wizard of Oz!

I just did a reread of all of C S Harris’ Sebastian St Cyr”s series – sooo good! Next up is Bec Mcmasters new one Hexbound – can you say virgin hero?

    • *sheepish* I actually forgot it was Friday. Oops. I’ve updated the post with my list for the week. Though now that you mention it, running off with Judd doesn’t sound like a bad idea. 😉

I didn’t read much this week. Because of Miss Bridgerton by Julia Quinn was a pleasant, low-angst historical. It’s set in the Georgian period, but there were few period details, so that was a bit of a disappointment. I’m currently reading Station Eleven, a dystopian by Emily St. John Mandel, for my bookclub. I rarely read dystopians as I find them very depressing. The book is well-written and grabbed my attention, but I just want to put it down and read a happy romance.

  3. Oh I really love Rebecca Zanetti but have only read her vampire series!! Too bad you didn’t like deadly silence. Oh yay to Shadow Rider Rowena, I hope you liked it!!!!

    • Did you read it? Cause I did read it but I don’t know about liking it so much. I’ll be reviewing it so you’ll read my thoughts on it soon(ish). 🙂

    My recent reads ~

    — a re-read of Thea Harrison’s novella The Wicked (Elder Races) — Hello, Holly!
    — an entertaining contemporary romance ~ The Hating Game: A Novel by Sally Thorne.
    — a Star Trek novel ~ Elusive Salvation (Star Trek: The Original Series) by Dayton Ward; it was a quick and pleasant read, but it’s definitely not a book I’ll re-read.
    — the new adult romance #Nerd (Hashtag Series Book 1) by Cambria Hebert; it was a pleasant read but probably not a book I’ll re-read.
    — the young adult novel Learning to Swear in America by Katie Kennedy; I enjoyed this book quite a lot. It had a droll humor that had me chuckling from time to time.
    — The Tao of Hockey (Vancouver Vice Book 1) by Melanie Ting; this was a pleasant read but probably not a book I’ll re-read.
    — read about 60 pages of the fantasy Song of Blood & Stone (Earthsinger Chronicles) by L. Penelope before putting it aside. I was initially enjoying the book and then it lost me.
    — the children’s book The Enemy by Davide Cali and Serge Bloch which I liked very much.
    — and skimmed Alice Hoffman’s The Dovekeepers before my book group meeting on Thursday to refresh my memory as to the details I’d forgotten in the past two weeks.

    • As always, you had a fabulous reading week Kareni! I’m so glad to see that you enjoyed The Hating Game, I really enjoyed that one too.

I’ve never heard of #Nerd so I’ll be checking that out soon, I love NA reads. I’ll also be checking out the Katie Kennedy too. That one sounds cute.

How many books do you read a year? It’s gotta be more than 200 right? I wish I could read that many. Have a great week!

I’ve never kept track of the number of books I read in a year, but I think it’s safe to say it’s well over 200 — it might be in the 400 plus range. I read quickly but retain little; I think that’s why I do a great deal of re-reading.

I have had a bad week both reading and otherwise. I ended up returning about half of my library books without reading to make my tbr pile seem slightly more manageable. I did read All the Little Liars by Charlaine Harris before returning it. It was a quick, decent read but nothing special. I then read The Spinster’s Guide to Scandalous Behavior by Jennifer McQuiston which I enjoyed. I finished that Monday and since then I’ve basically read nothing. I started the next book in McQuiston’s Seduction Diaries series, The Perks of Loving a Scoundrel, but I gave up on it very fast. I had gotten the ebook from my local library and then read a review of it that likened the behavior of the hero to that of a certain presidential candidate. I gave it a try, but found the hero pretty awful just in the little bit I read so I decided to return it. Last night I finally started Bittersweet by Sarina Bowen. I’ve only gotten 10% in; I’m liking it but I’m just not in a reading mindset. I do still have several library books to read with Like a River Glorious by Rae Carson and The Boy is Back by Meg Cabot being due back the soonest so they’ll be up next. Hopefully my slump will be over soon!

    • Oh no, I hope you’re not slipping slowly into a reading slump. I’ve seen the first McQuiston around but haven’t gotten to it yet though I’m more curious about it now that you read and enjoyed it. I have The Perks of Loving a Scoundrel but haven’t touched that one either. Were you just not in the mood to read it or did you not like it?

I hope you go back to Bittersweet. That’s a good one. The Boy is Back by Meg Cabot is a quick read, I recommend that one too. 🙂 I hope your week gets better Celine!

I think with Perks of Being a Scoundrel it was a combination of my being overwhelmed with too many library books due too soon, not being in a reading mood, and having just read a review that talked about the hero having issues with consent and then the hero being pretty terrible in just the first chapter.
