What Are You Reading? (194)

Rowena: I had a good reading week. I read a few books this week and some worked for me while others didn’t. I read Waiting on You by Kristan Higgins and sadly, this book didn’t work for me at all. There were far too many things that bugged me about this book (the heroine’s dumb games she played to make one guy notice one girl, the immature way the heroine was around the hero and many other things as well).  After I finished that book, I moved on to #16ThingsIThoughtWereTrue by Janet Gurtler.  I enjoyed this book more than WoY but there were a couple of things that I wasn’t a fan of in this book as well but in the end, I ended up liking it.

I also read The Summer I Found by Jolene Perry and this was another frustrating read for me.  Mostly because the main character is diabetic and she just wasn’t taking care of herself.  She kept trying to hide from her diabetes and it kept putting her in danger and no matter how many times her parents cried and yelled for her to take things seriously, she just wouldn’t.  So it was hard to get through that but I’m glad I finished it.

Now, I’m reading Believe by Erin McCarthy and doing a re-read of Divergent by Veronica Roth.  I’m really enjoying both books.  I’ve been pretty anxious to find out what happens to Robin in her book now that we know what she did and went through in the last book in this series.  I’m really liking her and Phoenix.  As for Divergent, I read this book earlier in the week and really liked it…now that I saw the movie, I’m reading the book again and loving it all over again.  Four? YUM.

Holly: I started the week by reading two free downloads. Caught Up in Us by Lauren Blakely was okay. The heroine’s insecurities kind of frustrated me, but the story was cute. Preservation by Rachael Wade was less successful. The hero is a college professor who makes it a habit of screwing (and then screwing over) his students. I might have been able to get past that, but his reasons for being a douche were flimsy and the heroine didn’t show much backbone.

I had part 4 of The Kraken King by Meljean Brook and didn’t realize it, so I read that. Then I gave my daughter Here There Be Monsters, which prompted me to do a reread of it and The Iron Duke (which is $1.99 for a limited time!! Download it at AmazonB&N, Kobo, iBooks).

Because rereading is a slippery slope for me, I couldn’t stop there. I also read The Return of Eden McCall by Judith Duncan, an old Silhouette Intimate Moments that I adore. Then Castle Hill by Samantha Young, because I was talking about it to a friend and started thinking about it. Which led me to Down London Road, because it’s my favorite of the series.

Then I read Diamond Bay by Linda Howard, just because. I was going to read Midnight Rainbow next, but I think I’ll read Always by Jeane Renick instead. It’s an older contemporary romance that I love. Or at least I love parts of it. It totally reads like a soap opera, but I don’t care. We’ll see where the wind takes me after that. I am super excited to be reading again, though. That nasty slump I was in lasted way too long.

What are you reading this week? Anything good? Anyone going to see the Divergent movie?

  1. Disappointing about the HIggins. I have that here to read.

I am reading Just One Year by Gayle Forman and listening to The Cuckoo’s Calling by Robert Galbraith.

    • How are you liking Just One Year by Gayle Forman? I have the first book but haven’t gotten around to reading it. But I’m curious.

      • I ended up liking it a lot. If I was to recommend Forman books I would go with If I Stay and Where She Went but these two worked together well too. I would recommend reading them close together though. I think I had too big a gap between them.
