Blog Tour: To Love and To Cherish by Lauren Layne

Posted October 20, 2016 by Rowena in Promotions | 8 Comments

To Love and to Cherish is the final book in the Wedding Belles series by Lauren Layne. We’re getting the long awaited story of Alexis and Logan. We’ve watched these two circle each other while one was head over heels in love with the other one that was absolutely oblivious. Logan will finally make himself known to Alexis and I’m so here for that.

This is a series that I have loved from the very first opening novella. With each passing book, I have grown more in love with the characters and the world that Layne has created for these characters. Her romances are smart, funny and sizzling with heat. We are super excited to be a part of the blog tour for this wonderful book. You can read my review of this book that went live this morning, here.

Let’s get on with the bookish goodness, shall we?

To Love and To Cherish by Lauren Layne
Series: Wedding Belles #3
Also in this Series: From this Day Forward, To Have and To Hold, For Better or Worse
Release Date: October 18, 2016
Publisher: Pocket Books
Genres: Contemporary, Romance

Sex and the City meets The Wedding Planner in The Wedding Belles, a contemporary and witty romance series about three high-powered New York City women who can plan any wedding—but their own.

Alexis Morgan has spent the past six years devoted to turning her tiny start-up into Manhattan’s premiere wedding planning company, The Wedding Belles. Now that her business is thriving, it’s time to turn towards her much neglected personal life, and Alexis approaches her relationships like she does everything else: with a plan. Not a part of that plan is Logan Harris, the silent partner in the Belles, and the one person who’s been there for her since the very beginning. But Alexis needs someone fun, and Logan’s all business, all the time—except when a late night at the office ends with an unexpected kiss that leaves the usually cool and together Alexis reeling.

Logan has lusted after Alexis since the day he walked into the tiny Harlem apartment that used to double as her office. But the ambitious wedding planner has always been untouchable…until now. Alexis has made it clear that she’s on the dating market—and equally clear that he’s not in the running. But when Alexis finds herself in need of a date for her sister’s last minute wedding in Florida, Logan knows it’s the perfect time to show Alexis that there’s more to him than numbers and spreadsheets—and beneath the pinstripes and glasses lies a hot-blooded heartthrob. As Florida’s sultry days turn into even hotter nights, Logan’s out to convince Alexis that the fling of a lifetime could just maybe turn into forever…

Order the Book:

The sexy British accented startled Alexis out of her thoughts, and she glanced up, both alarmed and intrigued to find that the face that awaited her was every bit as appealing as the voice.
The man was about her age—early, maybe midtwenties—and ridiculously cute. His hair was dark and maybe just a touch too long, as though he intended to get a haircut but kept forgetting. The eyes were brown and friendly, accented by trendy black-framed glasses.

The chunky cable-knit sweater with elbow patches—for real—bordered on dorky, but then, Alexis had always had a soft spot for dorky. He had a bit of the Clark Kent thing going on, which had always been far more her type than the overrated Superman.

“Hi,” she replied quickly, realizing that she’d been staring.

His smile grew wider as he extended a hand. “Logan Harris.”

Darn. Even the name was good.

“Alexis,” she said.

“Does that come with a last name?” he teased, lowering himself to the vacant barstool beside her.

“Not to strange men,” she retorted.

“I could buy you a drink. Get rid of the ‘strange’ part.”

Alexis’s smile slipped as she remembered that romance, even flirting, wasn’t part of her plan. She’d learned the hard way that she could have one or the other—her own business or a boyfriend—not both. And even if she wanted the latter, the latter didn’t want her back.

“No thanks; I’m fine,” she said, letting the slightest amount of chill enter her voice. The ice-princess treatment, Roxanne called it.

Logan shrugged, undeterred. “All right then. May I borrow your menu?”

She nodded, and he picked it up, perusing it for several moments and paying her no attention.

It was both a relief and also a bit of an insult, if she was being entirely honest, to be given up on so easily.

Alexis tried to turn her attention back to her laptop but watched out of the corner of her eye as he finally shut the menu, waiting patiently to catch the bartender’s eye.

“Hi there,” he said, when the bartender ambled back over. “I’d like a Stella, and a maybe bite to eat?”

Alexis didn’t miss the once-over that the bartender gave Logan before the curvy redhead leaned over the bar, displaying perky boobs as she clicked her pen and pulled a notepad out of her back pocket.

“Shoot,” the bartender said flirtatiously, looking a good deal friendlier than she had when she’d spoken to Alexis.

Not that Alexis blamed her. A cute Brit could do that to a girl.

“All right then,” Logan said. “I’d like the burger, medium, with Swiss. Fish and chips, extra tartar, and . . . how’s your chicken club?”

The bartender blinked. “It’s good. But you want all that?”

“I do. Thank you.”

“Suit yourself,” she said, scribbling Logan’s order on the pad.

“Hungry?” Alexis couldn’t resist asking after the bartender moved away.

Logan gave a sheepish smile. “I’m a recovering student. I sometimes get so wrapped up in my day that I forget to eat.”

“A recovering student. What does that mean?”

He turned slightly toward her. “Someone’s showing plenty of interest in a strange man.”

She bit her lip. “I’m sorry if I was rude before. I’m just not really in the market for . . . you know.”
He gave her an easy smile. “Everyone’s in the market for a friend, Alexis.”

She opened her mouth and then shut it as she realized he was right. She could use a friend. She’d spent her entire life in Boston and knew almost nobody in New York. This guy seemed nice and nonthreatening enough—what would be the harm in a little conversation over dinner? It had been too long since she’d had somebody to share a meal with.

Logan seemed to know the moment she capitulated, because he turned more fully toward her. “A recovering student, Alexis, is a recent graduate. One who hasn’t quite absorbed that there will be no more finals, no more requisite all-nighters, and no more dorm sex.”

Alexis laughed. “Undergrad, then?”

He gave her a wry look. “How young do I look, darling? MBA from Columbia. Just finished up end of last year.”

She felt a little stab of relief that he wasn’t twenty-two.

He leaned toward her slightly. “Twenty-five next month, just in case you were wondering. As a friend.”

She tried to hide her smile and failed. “Columbia, huh? You’re a long way from home.”

“Noticed that, did ya?” He winked. “I came out here for undergrad, also Columbia. Always figured I’d go back to London and maybe someday I will, but . . .” He shrugged. “Seems I have stuff to do here first.”

“Such as?” She took a sip of her wine, dismayed to see that it was half-empty.

“Well, this will probably shock you, given my vast amount of brawn, but I’m an accountant. Or at least I will be, once I get my business up and running.”

Alexis was impressed. “Your own business?”

Most twentysomethings, even those with an entrepreneurial bent, opted to get a few years of work under their belts for someone else before branching out on their own.

He nodded. “I’m working out of my flat for now, but I’m hoping to lease some office space soon, get some legitimacy. If nothing else to get my father off my back.”

“He’s not a fan of your plan?” Alexis asked.

Logan’s shoulder lifted, and for the first time he seemed a little sad. “Both parents have had it in their head that I’d come home. Run the family business in London.”

“Which is . . . ?”

He spun his beer glass idly. “Financial consulting firm. My father’s the CEO, Mum’s the COO.”

“Wow, that’s . . .”

“Scary?” Logan supplied.

“I was going to say impressive. That they work together—without killing each other, I mean.”

“They’re in love. It’s atrocious,” he said with a wink. “What about your folks?”

Alexis laughed. “Not in love. They divorced when I was in high school. Dad’s remarried and happy now, I think. Mom not so much.”

“And you?” he said. “Are you happy, Alexis?”

She pursed her lips, surprised and yet not entirely unsettled by the personal question. “It’s been a while since anyone asked me that. Since I even thought about it, really.”

“Think it out. I’ll wait,” he said with a wink.

She didn’t have to think that long. “I’m almost happy.”

“You sound quite confident on that.”

She shrugged. “Let’s just say that I need a few things to fall into place in my professional life, but once that happens . . . yeah. I’ll be happy.”

She’d make sure of it.

Race the Darkness by Abbie Roads
Series: Fatal Dreams #1
Release Date: October 4, 2016
Publisher: Sourcebooks Casablanca
Genres: Paranormal, Romantic Suspense

Cursed with a terrible gift…

Criminal investigator Xander Stone doesn’t have to question you-he can hear your thoughts. Scarred by lightning, burdened with a power that gives him no peace, Xander struggles to maintain his sanity against the voice that haunts him day and night-the voice of a woman begging him to save her.

A gift that threatens to engulf them

Isleen Walker has long since given up hope of escape from the nightmare of captivity and torture that is draining her life, her mind, and her soul. Except…there is the man in her feverish dreams, the strangely beautiful man who beckons her to freedom and wholeness. And when he comes, if he comes, it will take all their combined fury and faith to overcome a madman bent on fulfilling a deadly prophecy.

Order the Book:

Isleen floated in that sweet spot between reality and waking. The only thing penetrating her sleepy haze was the scent of warm graham crackers and autumn leaves. It was a scent she was familiar with, one she loved. It was the scent of all her favorite memories. It was the scent of Xander.

A predawn haze of gray lit the room, touching everything with its soft color. Her head was pillowed on his shoulder, her face pressed against his neck, her body encased in the security of his arms, and he had one of his legs tossed over her thighs. Not since she was a little girl—too naive to know pain existed in the world—had she felt this absolutely safe.

Something strange seemed to happen whenever she was near him. The sheer power of his presence salved the wounds of her past and shaped her into the strong and capable woman she was meant to be. The real her. The person she would’ve been if she hadn’t endured so much horror. The person she’d only had a chance to be in her nightly dreams of Xander. And weren’t those dreams doozies?

Memories of him from her dreams flooded her mind, heating her body. Their nightly escapades had always been vivid and oh, so intimate. Her female parts wanted to nestle and squirm in closer to him, to satisfy the longing building from the mere memories of dreams, but she was already as close as she could get with her clothes on. Just what would happen if her clothes were off? Didn’t that bring to mind explicit, triple X-rated thoughts?

From her dreams, she knew what lay underneath his clothes, knew he was spectacular. Everywhere. And the hard length of him moving inside her, filling her so deliciously… It was a miracle that a body could feel so wanting and wonderful at the same time.

Her awareness of just how they were lying in the bed—groin to groin—gave her another flash of heat. Or was that longing? She could feel him through his pants, resting against her needy bundle of nerves. Her attention narrowed more and more until the only thing she could think about, the only thing she could feel was him right there, right where she wanted him.

She tried to hold still, not to move, not to disturb what was already the best moment of her waking life, but her body had other intentions. Excruciatingly slowly, so she didn’t wake him, she rocked her hips forward and back, rubbing against him. Instead of offering any satisfaction, need blazed brighter. If she didn’t stop, she’d end up dry humping him in his sleep.

The Billionaire Banker

When Lana Bloom learns the devastating news that her mother is dying, she is faced with a terrible dilemma. The one thing that can save her is the one thing she does not have.
For young and Innocent Lana, The unthinkable is her only choice.

When she walks through the door of that exclusive restaurant she has no idea of the seismic shift her life is about to take, for the highest bidder will not be the rich man she has accompanied.

Fate drops her at the feet of the deeply mysterious and dazzlingly gorgeous American banker, Blake Law Barrington. Throbbing with raw masculinity and arrogance, this is a man who owns all that he pursues.

And now he wants her.

Lana cannot deny she is both intrigued and intoxicated by the world Blake inhabits and the smoldering passion he stirs in her body, but she is also fearful for this man is addictive and right now she is very vulnerable. She knows she should focus only on the arrangement, but how can she?

When he has opened a door that cannot be closed…

Lana is desperate. Her mother is dying of cancer and Lana is determined that she will live. She has found a place in America (she’s in England) that has an alternative medicine treatment that she would like her mother to try but she needs 50,000 pounds to pay for it. Lana and her mother are very poor and the only thing she has to offer is her body. She has heard that her boss, Rupert, is willing to buy high class whores for 10,000 pounds so she takes a chance and approaches him with her proposition. He is a slimy, nasty piece of work and gives Lana the creeps but he’s willing to pay. They go out to dinner to discuss the transaction and that’s when billionaire banker Blake Barrington sees her.

Blake is immediately taken with Lana’s looks and as he knows her boss (and thinks he’s slime as well) invites them to a party. He eventually gets Lana alone and tells her that whatever Rupert is paying her he’ll double it. Lana is stunned but since Rupert wanted to basically have her be raped, repeatedly but consensually, Lana agrees to the one month deal.

Blake sets Lana up with clothes and an apartment. He also changes the terms of the deal to three months instead of one. Lana agrees and though she’s scared at first she soon realizes that while Blake may look like a cold bastard at times, he’s kind and caring. Lana does the unthinkable and falls in love with Blake but knows she can never be with him. Blake, too, falls for Lana but he can’t tell her as his future is set by his father and his father, and those around him will stop at nothing to make that future happen. Lana does the unthinkable and gets pregnant but according to the contract she signed she either has to terminate the pregnancy or hand the child over to the Barrington’s. When Lana is offered money to disappear she takes it to protect her unborn child.

I had very mixed feelings about this book.

When I first started reading I have to admit to almost putting it down before I got too far. Lana was dressed in an orange dress and horrible orange platform shoes. It was just such a cliché for the poor girl seeking to look upscale and older and it jut didn’t work. I mean, it got Blake’s attention, sure, but he was looking below the wrapping. On top of that I found the writing to be a bit odd. It was told in 3rd person POV, not that unusual, but it was almost as told by a narrator and this caused some of the emotion to slip through the cracks.

The characters, especially Blake, weren’t fully fleshed out – Lana more so as we got to see her friends, her mother, her life in greater detail. We didn’t see anything about Blake’s day to day life – only things that happened when he was with Lana.

Now, despite that, I really liked the story itself. I thought the premise was interesting and I found myself looking forward to what would happen next. I didn’t question Lana and Blake’s love for each other but I couldn’t quite figure out where they would go from there. This is obviously a romance but Blake’s father would never let her stay with him. Because of this I definitely wanted to read the next book to see what happened with the couple.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5

Forty 2 DaysForty 2 days

Devastatingly handsome billionaire, Blake Law Barrington was Lana Blooms first and only love. From the moment they touched his power was overwhelming. Their arrangement quickly developed into a passionate romance that captivated her heart and took her on an incredible sexual journey she never wanted to end.
The future together looked bright until Lana made a terrible mistake. So, she did the only thing she could… she ran.

Away from her incredible life, away from the man of her dreams, but she should have known a man such as Blake Law Barrington was impossible to escape. Now, he’s back in her life and determined that she should taste the bitterness of his pain.

Shocked at how rough the sex has become and humiliated that she is actually participating so willingly in her punishment, she despairs if she will ever feel the warmth of his touch—the solidity of his trust again? And even if she can win his trust, loyalties are yet to be decided, and secrets to be revealed—secrets that will test them both to their limits.

Will Lana be able to tear down the walls that surround Blake’s heart, and break him free of the brutal power of immense wealth?

Can Blake hold on to Lana’s heart when she discovers the enormity of the dark secrets that inhabit the Barrington family?

Lana has always believed that love conquers all. She is about to test that belief…

So Lana in book one was paid to leave the country. She didn’t say goodbye to Blake as he was a bit…incapacitated at that time but now she’s back and she wants to start a baby clothing business with her best friend, Billie. She applied for a loan and then made an appointment with the loan officer. When she gets to the bank she doesn’t find the loan officer but Blake – the man she’s not been able to forget after all this time.

Blake is understandably pissed at Lana and wants her to complete the 42 days that she has on the original contract. Lana knows it’s a bad idea but she loves Blake so much that she agrees. Lana tried to pass her son, Sorab, off as Billie’s baby but Blake wasn’t stupid and knows that the baby is his from the first moment he sees him.

Blake is pretty demeaning to Lana when it came to sex, at first, and I had to stop and wonder why she continued to be with him as he obviously just saw her as a sex object and a gold digger. It was almost a “I love the man who abuses me” scenario and I wasn’t really into it. Blake does get better and the book, for the most part, is continued with sex scenes. There is a weird visit from Victoria’s mother when Lana is in the park with her son, Sorab, which puts her on alert that she’s in some pretty grave danger. She loves Blake though and he seems to love her as well, even though he won’t say it. She asks what will happen after the 42 days is up and he only asks her to trust him which she does…for a while.

The book kind of gets into a weird area when Blake’s father gets involved and the self-righteous prick goes mental (he doesn’t really but he’s so damned full of himself!). I can’t tell you more about the ending without ruining it but I will say that it went in a direction that I was not expecting and was so bizarre I’m still kind of going, “Whaaaa?”

This story was told from Lana’s POV so the strange oddness I got from Le Carre’s 3rd person was more or less fixed with going first person POV. I felt much more invested in the couple even though I didn’t particularly care for where their relationship was going.

The end of this book is really what made me pause and figure out how to rate this one. I’ll be completely honest, I didn’t like the end at all. Yes, there’s an HEA but it’s so very tainted by the dark Barrington secret that I couldn’t see Lana being happy in the long run. Oh sure, she’d fool herself because she has Blake but the life that she was going in to was so jaded and dark that I just wanted both her and Blake to run far away and change their identities!

While I liked parts of this story, and I liked the writing better than I did in book one, I can’t say I thoroughly liked this one either. Good, but not great, imho. (Of course reading Goodreads reviews I think I’m in the minority here.)

Rating: 3 out of 5

II“How are you?”

He wanted to exchange pleasantries as though they’d parted on good terms? She didn’t have time to beat around the bush. She should already be home, getting dinner for her daughter before they went over her homework.

“When you left Pleasant Valley, you swore you’d never return. So what happened? What finally changed your mind?”

His expression hardened. If he’d been expecting a warm welcome, he’d been sadly mistaken.

IIIHe shrugged. “Things change.”

Well, most things did, and generally not for the better, but not in Jason’s case. He hadn’t gained so much as a beer gut or a receding hairline. Even the jagged scar on his face added to his sexiness.

Kara’s gaze rose to meet his. At first glance, she thought his intense blue eyes were the same as she remembered, but a closer inspection revealed a hard glint in them. He no longer resembled the warm, lighthearted guy she’d dated for nearly four years. Or had he been that way all along? Had those rose-colored glasses she’d been wearing back then obscured his real character? Had she ever truly known him at all?
