What Are You Reading? (289)

WAYR-New

Casee: I’ve actually had time to read this week, which is pretty surprising. Sherrilyn Kenyon is an author that I go back and forth on. I usually read a bunch of her stuff, then don’t go back to her for awhile. I read that she had a new League book out, so I went to her website and checked it out. I’ve never read a book in her League series. After reading about it, I decided to try Born of Night which is the first book in the series. I’m looking forward to reviewing it for you guys.

I’m almost done with Born of Night. After I finish that I’m going to start Dragonbane by Sherrilyn Kenyon, which will take me back to the world of the Dark-Hunters. After that, I’ll probably go to another League book. See what I mean about reading a bunch of her stuff?

Holly: Things are pretty crazy for me right now, so my reading time has been pretty much nil. I managed to skim through a couple books, but I haven’t read a new book cover-to-cover in about two weeks. I’m so sad. Hopefully things will settle a bit after this weekend and I can get some serious reading time in. Fingers crossed.

Rowena: I was extremely busy last week so I didn’t get any reading done but my niece’s wedding is done and I’m back in the groove of things. I finished Allegiance of Honor by Nalini Singh (I still can’t believe that I’m all caught up on that series), read For the Win by Sara Rider (review to come) and I just finished Bittersweet by Sarina Bowen. My favorite read of the week goes to Bittersweet by Sarina Bowen. I freaking loved that book. I loved Griff. I loved his apples. I loved his cider, especially the special cider and I absolutely adored his family and Jude and Zack. Audrey was pretty great too. I really loved the entire book and am super thrilled that we have a short wait for Jude’s book…though I want it now! I’m greedy like that. So good!

I’ve got to read my book club read for the month before Monday so that is what I’ll be diving into this weekend. That book is Angel’s Blood by Nalini Singh. I’ve heard great things about this book so I’m ready for it.

What are you reading this week? Any new favorites or books that drove you crazy? Share!

  1. I read the first four or five Dark-Hunter books awhile back, almost back to back, and I loved them. I’ve been collecting more books in the series, but haven’t gotten around to them yet, and haven’t tried her League series yet.

I just finished The Princess Bride by William Goldman. Confession – I watched the movie years ago, expecting to be entranced because everyone I know loves it so much, and I liked it, but I sure didn’t love it like everyone else does! I enjoyed the book much more than the movie.

Now I’ve started Queen of Babble Gets Hitched by Meg Cabot, and I quickly realized it’s been so long since I read the first two Queen of Babble books that I barely remember them. Hopefully that won’t throw me off, but I might need to look them up and try to refresh my memory.

    • Oh man, it’s been ages since I’ve read a Dark Hunter book. I remember the days when Holly and I would spend hours everyday stalking SK’s website for any update she had and how long we would talk through different theories on who Ash’s heroine was going to be. The good ol’ days…

You didn’t love The Princess Bride? Inconceivable! 🙂

I would be in the same boat as you if I tried to read Queen of Babble Gets Hitched. I don’t remember much of that series. I just remember Chaz.

octoberwoman, I read the Princess Bride some time ago. What surprised me was that it was clearly intended for an adult audience with asides on the narrator’s relationships, for example. I can also see how some gullible readers were led to believe that the story was true. I thought it well done.

It seems I read surprisingly few romances this week. Books read and enjoyed ~

    — a re-read of Oracle’s Moon (A Novel of the Elder Races) by Thea Harrison
    — re-read an old favorite: Yesterday’s Son (Star Trek: The Original Series Book 11) by A. C. Crispin and the sequel Time For Yesterday
    — also re-read The Pandora Principle (Star Trek: The Original Series) by Carolyn Clowes
    — Zero Sum Game (Russell’s Attic) by SL Huang. It is science fiction and features a heroine who is decidedly gifted in math but whose morals are questionable. Be warned that there is a lot of killing in this book. This is the first book in a series, and I’d read more.
    — a children’s book The Mermaid and the Major: The True Story of the Submarine by Francisco Melendez
    — for my book group: The Lemon Tree: An Arab, a Jew, and the Heart of the Middle East by Sandy Tolan. It was an educational read, and I’m learned a lot about a time and a situation about which I knew little.

    • Which book is Oracle’s Moon and who are the hero and heroine?

I love book clubs! My book club reads a lot of romance so it’s my kind of book club. 🙂 Haha!

      Happy Reading guys!

Oracle’s Moon is the fourth book in the Elder Races series. It features Grace Andreas, the Oracle, and Khalil, a djinn. Oracle’s Moon and Dragon Bound are my favorites in the series and are books I frequently re-read.

I didn’t have tons of reading time this week, but what I did have I spent reading more of the series I think I mentioned last week about space treasure hunters, the Phoenix Adventures by Anna Hackett. I just finished book 5. OMG I love this series so much. I have to write a review because I want to fangirl all over the place.
