Casee: My relationship with J.R. Ward is iffy at best. When Dark Lover came out, she was actually personally answering the emails her readers sent her. Now she has herself hidden behind layers and layers of people to protect her (i.e. keep her insulated). I’m just a peon. A peon that wants to stop reading her books, but can’t. It’s a disease. It really is. I just finished reading Blood Kiss which is a new series within the Brotherhood, but is about the trainees. I have to say, it was reminiscent of her earlier books. The ones I wanted to read. Not the ones I can’t stop myself from reading.
I’m now reading Allegiance of Honor, a Psy/Challenging book by Nalini Singh. Now if I can barely stand J.R. Ward, I love Nalini Singh. I always have. I’ve never read a book by her that I haven’t loved. She can do no wrong.
Holly: I’m still struggling to find something to read. I’m in the mood to read…something, but I have no idea what. Maybe another UF? Maybe a paranormal? I don’t know.
I read Bayou Moon by Ilona Andrews, book 2 in The Edge series. It was so good. I absolutely loved William and Cerise, and I love that world. It’s creepy and vivid and so imaginative. I also read Bounty by Kristen Ashley, the latest Colorado Mountains book. It was good. Not my favorite of the series, but I liked Justice and Deke.
Since I finished Bounty I’ve been doing some light skimming through some other KA books and looking for another PNR or UF to read. wish me luck?
Rowena: It’s been a slow reading week for me. Everything that I swore I was going to read…I didn’t. I read Sidebarred by Emma Chase and I really enjoyed that novella. I low key want more novellas for the other couples in this series, even Stanton and Sofia. I heart Jake Becker and his brood so freaking much.
Right now, I’m reading The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson. So far, it’s good and I’m sure that I will love the rest of the book. It’s a Morgan Matson, I always love her stuff. After this, I’m going to jump into Troublemaker by Linda Howard and the other books on my review pile for May.
What are you reading this week? Any new favorites or books that drove you crazy? Share!
It’s been weeks since I read anything but academic material (*sob*), but summer break is coming soon and I want to read all. the. books.
I can’t wait for summer break just so you can get back to reading the good stuff. 🙂
Lots of good reading this week!
– First, I read The Game Plan which I won from you all. It was so good. Caretaker alphas are my absolute favorite heroes and Kristen Callihan does them so well. Now I just want to know where I can get a Dex of my own.
– I also read Kingdom of Strangers by Zoe Ferraris, the third in a mystery series set in Saudi Arabia. Throughout the series, interwoven with the main mystery plots, was an absolutely fascinating look at what it’s like to live in a society where men and women are so segregated from each other and where misogyny is so actively promoted by the govt. and by all of the religious and social institutions. We have plenty of problems here in the US, but the series left me very grateful to have been born here rather than there.
– finally, I read One More Summer by Liz Flaherty. It was a lovely romance, but also had some bittersweet and very sad parts. I usually stay away from those but this one sucked me in the moment I read the sample and I couldn’t put it down.
The Game Plan was such a good read, wasn’t it? I loved it!
I’m going to have check out One More Summer, I want to say that I’ve heard about it but I’m drawing a blank. I don’t know if I could do bittersweet right now though.
I loved The Game Plan. Dex!! <3 <3
Recent reads here include; I enjoyed them all unless otherwise stated:
— the paranormal romance White Tiger (A Shifter’s Unbound Novel) by Jennifer Ashley; I recommend starting this series in order.
— a fantasy novel that I very much enjoyed. The problem is that it is a new book, and now I’ll need to wait for future volumes! I’ve read and enjoyed several other books by this author, but I like this one the most ~ Dreaming Death: A Palace of Dreams Novel by J. Kathleen Cheney.
— the contemporary romance One of These Nights: The Harvest Cove Series by Kendra Leigh Castle.
— the contemporary romance Simple Man by Lydia Michaels. I liked her Sacred Waters (McCullough Mountain Book 1) a bit more.
— my husband and I listened to Lois McMaster Bujold’s Beguilement (The Sharing Knife, Book 1); it the first book of hers I’ve ever tried.
— Fever at Dawn by Péter Gárdos and translated by Elizabeth Szász; it was a quick read and also a poignant one. It’s a novel based on the author’s parents, Holocaust survivors, who met through letters.
— a re-read of Thea Harrison’s Peanut Goes to School which was fun to revisit.
— two books about which I’d heard raves but which left me a little wanting: Dangerous Curves by Marysol James and C791 (Cyborgs: More than Machines) by Eve Langlais.
Peanut Goes to School is such an adorable story. I love Peanut.
I’m looking forward to reading Thea Harrison’s latest three stories including Liam Takes Manhattan. I wonder if he’ll get a whole book of his own one day.
