Happy New Year from our Book Binge family to yours!
Casee: My reading continues to decline. I’m still Lucky Stars by Kristen Ashley. It is the fifth and apparently final book of the Ghost and Reincarnation series.
I still haven’t been listening to audiobooks either. Here’s to a hopeful 2021.
Holly: I continued reading holiday novellas the week of Christmas. I read The Christmas Bride by Anne Gracie, which was cute. I also read The Mistletoe Bride by Anne Gracie, which I enjoyed. The Earl of Christmas Past by Kerrigan Byrne was a fun read. I read two steampunk novellas by Melanie Karsak, Hauntings and Humbug and Goblins and Snowflakes. Both are classic retellings I really enjoyed. I tried reading Wolves and Daggers, the first book in the Red Riding Hood series by the same author, but I couldn’t get into it. I DNF’d it about halfway through. I read the first two stories in the Seduction on a Snowy Night anthology, featuring Madeline Hunter, Sabrina Jeffries and Mary Jo Putney. Both were pretty terrible.
I reread Rock Addiction by Nalini Singh, Repeat by Kylie Scott, Fairytale Come Alive by Kristen Ashley and Twisted Creek by Jodi Thomas.
Rowena: Happy New Year, everyone! I hope that everyone celebrated the start of a new year safely and that 2021 brings about everything we hoped 2020 would have.
I have decided that for 2021, I’m going to read at whatever pace that I read at. I’m not going to force myself to read things, just so that I’m reading something. I have reading goals and I want to meet them but I don’t want to kill myself to read stuff or stress myself out with ridiculous reading goals. I say all of this because my reading is super slow though I am reading. I read In a Holidaze by Christina Lauren last week and while I enjoyed it, I didn’t LOVE it. There were some pacing issues for me and the hero lowkey got on my nerves from time to time but overall, I liked it. I’m finishing up a re-read of Twisted Creek by Jodi Thomas. I read this a while ago and while I enjoyed it, I didn’t LOVE it like Holly and some other book friends did. That seems to still be the case for me now. I thought that I would like it more this time around but…nope. It’s still just okay.
I plan to start reading Training Camp by Wes King and Kobe Bryant next. It’s going to be my first read of the new year and I’m reading it with my friends so I’m looking forward to diving in.
I just finished Whispering Rock by Robyn Carr. It was a Christmas present, I enjoyed it very much. Robyn is one of my favorite authors.
Happy New Year!
I’m so glad you enjoyed it. I haven’t read her in years. I may need to pull out a few of here from my TBR.
I just “discovered” Ainslie Paton—I can’t believe it’s taken me this long!—and read and loved OFFENSIVE BEHAVIOR and DAMAGED GOODS. Both were very good—and DAMAGED GOODS addressed something I haven’t seen too often in romance: a hero with “performance issues” because of nerve damage following an accident. Honestly and sensitively handled. Now I’m reading Misha Horne’s m/m historical western, LOOKING FOR TROUBLE. It was a freebie download and I wasn’t expecting much, but so far it’s wonderfully well-written with very good differentiation of the two heroes’ voices.
Thank you for the rec. I’m going to add her to my list for 2021.
I’ve been doing my usual holiday anthology reading for the last few weeks. I started later than usual because I was finishing reading the Bridgerton series which I really enjoyed.
Happy New Year!!!
I haven’t been able to watch Bridgerton yet, but I’ve heard great things about it.
I read The Awakening by Nora Roberts. This book really dragged in parts. Nothing really happened for half the book – it just set up the next book. Plus, she again creates the heroine’s mother as full of flaws.
That’s disappointing to hear. I’ll admit, I haven’t read NR the past few years because her pacing is slower then it used to be. I think I’ll skip this one.
December was a hard month for me, and I didn’t get much read. Hoping for a better January.
I’ll keep my fingers crossed for both of us. I want to have a better reading month in January too. Good luck, Denise! 🙂 Happy New Year!
Happy new year and happy reading all!
Over the past week ~
— a book I received as a Christmas gift, One Giant Leap by Kay Simone, which I quite enjoyed. You could describe it as a slow burn and a long distance romance. For about three quarters of the book, one character is on the earth while the other, an astronaut, is in space. I expect that this is a book I’ll reread.
— Sourdough: or, Lois and Her Adventures in the Underground Market: A Novel by Robin Sloan. I’d describe it as fiction with a hint of magical realism.
— read and enjoyed Greyson’s Doom (The Endurance Book 1) by Tracy Cooper-Posey which happens to be currently free for Kindle readers. It’s a science fiction romance; I may or may not read on in the series.
— read about half of Unbreak Me by Michelle Hazen.
It was telling a good story; however, it was making me sad. I may continue with it some other time.
Happy New Year, and happy reading to you too Karen!
Thank you!
I picked up a copy of Greyson’s Doom. Thank you!
At the moment I’m reading two books, The Right Stud by Ilsa Madden-Mills and Pucked by Helena Hunting
Hey KristieJ! Are you enjoying them?
They fall into the dreaded “they’re ok” category. The Right Stud was a bit bland, I give it a 3. I like Pucked better but I had issues with it too. The big one was when she dressed hero’s Dick, which she named Snuffie after Snuffelupagus from Sesame Steet up as a super hero with a little cape and two little googly eyes. Nope, not kidding.
What also annoyed me was when hero, who is Canadian, referred to temperature as centigrade not Fahrenheit. It is NOT centigrade, it’s Celsius. grin I can be annoyingly picky at the oddest things.
She…called it Snuffie … and… dressed it up in a cape??? His actual penis? Like, the one attached to his body?
::facepalm::
