What Are You Reading? (643)

Casee is on vacation this week so it’s just me. Work is still kind of kicking my butt, so I haven’t had a lot of reading time. I read Touched by Fire by Kel Carpenter, the first book in the Demons of New Chicago series. I enjoyed the premise and look forward to the next book in the series. I listened to Pride and Premeditation by Steffanie Holmes, the third book in the Nevermore Bookshop Mysteries series. I really enjoy the narrator and had fun listening to the book, but some of the scenes were a little cringe-y. I’ll probably take a break before reading another book in the series. I read The Rest of Me by Ashley Munoz, a new-to-me author. It was kind of a sad, angsty book and I’m not sure I fully bought into the final resolution, but I was emotionally invested in the story. I’m still thinking about it and I read it several days ago.

I’m currently reading A Coup of Tea by Casey Blair, a cozy mystery/fantasy novel I found while browsing Kindle. The writing is very engaging and I’m enjoying it immensely so far.

What are you reading this week? Any new favorites or books that drove you crazy? Share!

I read A Coup of Tea a while ago and enjoyed it, too, @Holly. Here’s to more happy discoveries!

    Over the past week ~

    — reread Captain’s Share and Owner’s Share (Trader’s Tales from the Golden Age of the Solar Clipper Books 5 and 6) by Nathan Lowell. Once again the final volume made me cry. And as always I remain impressed that the author managed to begin book one and end book six with the same sentence.
    — For my local book group read The Worst Hard Time: The Untold Story of Those Who Survived the Great American Dust Bowl by Timothy Egan which was a rather depressing nonfiction account of the Dust Bowl era.
    — read Do I Know You? by Emily Wibberley which I quite enjoyed. This was about a couple married for five years who have grown apart who find a way to re-connect.

I’ve just finished a fairly old (2015) dual-timeline book that has a big twist: CRUEL & BEAUTIFUL by A.M. Hargrove & Terri E. Laine. It wasn’t particularly good, but it kept me guessing. Now I’m waiting for Sunday when Zoe York’s REBEL AT HEART is released.

  3. I had family in town the first part of this week, so not a lot of reading got done. I just started eyeball-reading Too Soon for Adios by Annette Chavez Macias (I LOVED Big Chicas Don’t Cry) and on audio, It Takes One by Kate Kessler (this is suspense, but the author wrote historical and paranormal romances under the name Kathryn Smith for many years).
