What Are You Reading? (640)

I’ve been reading a lot of Sherilee Gray. She reminds me of Dianne Duvall. Her books are easy, fast, and entertaining. I also read Storm Warrior (Grim #1) by Dani Harper. I wasn’t crazy about it. The heroine drove me batshit crazy. She was supremely annoying. I almost DNFed the book at 89%, that’s how frustrated I was. I’m currently reading Taming the Alpha (Crescent Moon #1) by Katie Reus & Alpha Instinct (Moon Shifter #1) by Katie Reus. I’m looking for a good contemporary if anyone has any suggestions.

I have Things We Hide From the Light (Knockemout #2) by Lucy Score to listen to. Hopefully I’ll start it today or tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

I read Spring Breeze by Lily Alexander, a new-to-me author, featuring a grumpy boss and a woman who was left at the alter. I really liked parts of the story, most especially the MCs journey to rebuild her life, but it was kind of slow in parts. I’ll probably try another book from the author in the future. I read Power Play by Maria Luis, which I didn’t love. It was a quick read and engaging, but the short page count meant the romance happened a little too fast to be believable. One Last Shot by Julia Connors was a Kindle recommendation because I read Power Play. I enjoyed it. It could have been a little shorter and the third act breakup wasn’t my favorite, but I liked it overall. I also read One Little Favor, a novella set in the same series featuring a grumpy/sunshine workplace romance. It was a cute read. I read By a Thread by Lucy Score, which is another grumpy/sunshine workplace romance. I really enjoyed it. It could have been a little shorter, but the banter was great and I really liked the premise.

I listened to Dog with the Bone by Hailey Edwards. I thought I had already read this series, but I didn’t have it marked. Some details were familiar, while others were brand new to me. It was a quick read and I enjoyed the narrator, but I’m not sure I’m in the mood to continue the series. I read The Dark Elf’s Secret Baby by Celeste King. I didn’t love the heroine (in fact she drove me crazy), but I liked the hero and the writing enough to pick up the second book, The Dark Elf’s Surprise Baby. I have so much regret. Between the “hero” physically assaulting the heroine and the poor choices they both made, I still can’t believe I read through to the end. I will not be seeking out any additional books from the author.

I started Heir of the Dog by Hailey Edwards and Sure Shot by Sarina Bowen, but set both aside after just a few pages, as I wasn’t in the mood for either. I’m still not sure what I’m going to read next.

What are you reading this week? Any new favorites or books that drove you crazy? Share!

I’ve almost finished POSSESSION by A. Anders. It’s about a fake-married couple who go to a kink camp and grow closer.

    Since last time ~

    — an enjoyable post-world war II male/male mystery/romance, Hither Page (Page & Sommers Book 1) by Cat Sebastian; this featured a spy/assassin and a doctor. I look forward to reading on in the series.***
    — the first three Seafort Saga books by David Feintuch; one was a reread while the others were new to me. Some thoughts about this science fiction series: it’s described as Hornblower in space, and I can see why. There is a lot of death and violence (hazing and caning, for example). It’s male centric, and the few women who do feature fare poorly. The lead character feels strongly about honor, and there is a lot of self-loathing when he cannot uphold his ideals. I enjoyed them and the second made me cry, but I think I will not continue on now as the books are long and other books call!
