I’ve been a reading machine this last week. I finished up the Ancients Rising series by Katie Reus. I’ve been really into dragons recently. Does anyone have an suggestions? I’ve already read Thea Harrison. After months of having Archangel’s Resurrection (Guild Hunter #15) by Nalini Singh, I finally picked it up last night. I wasn’t too excited to read about Alexander, which I think is why it took me so long to start it. I should have known better. I’m only about 25% in, but it is amazing so far. I’m also reading Darkness Awakened (Darkness #1) by Katie Reus.
I finished listening to Storm Echo (Psy-Changeling Trinity #6) by Nalini Singh. It was a reread for me, but I had never listened to it on audio. Once I finished that up, I decided to listen to Saving Grace by Julie Garwood. Thank you, Holly.

I finished the Firebird Chronicles by T.A. White. Threshold of Annihilation and Facets of Revolution. If I’d know there was going to be such a cliffhanger I might have waited to read the latest release, but alas…I’m stuck waiting for the next book.
I tried to read Claimed by the Lion by January Bell, but DNF’d it about halfway through. I just couldn’t get into it. I also DNF’d Anna’s Bounty by Deysi O’Donal. I just couldn’t reconcile the actions of the female MC with the events that took place. I read Phoenix’s Touch by Tai James. It was just okay. I enjoyed certain aspects of it, but I doubt I’ll continue the series.
I listened to The Secret, Ransom and Saving Grace by Julie Garwood, all favorites of mine.
I haven’t decided what to read next.
Does the dragon book need to be a romance Casee? If not, I recommend His Majesty’s Dragon (Temeraire, #1) by Naomi Novik.
Over the past week ~
— quite enjoyed the contemporary novel Thank You for Listening by Julia Whelan. Parts of this book strained credulity, but it was a fun read. This author excels at witty banter, and I laughed aloud several times. Be aware that this could be difficult to read if a loved one has/had dementia.
— Appropriate for the season, I read and enjoyed A Gift of Ghosts (Tassamara Book 1) by Sarah Wynde which was a thankfully not scary contemporary paranormal romance…and a book I’ve owned since 2016. BONUS: it is currently free for Kindle readers!
— After reading the first King Henry Tapes book last week, I enjoyed reading this collection of shorter works in the same urban fantasy world. Note that these do not stand alone. King Henry Short Pack One (The King Henry Tapes) by Richard Raley.
— enjoyed a reread of the young adult science fiction Earth Girl (Earth Girl series Book 1) by Janet Edwards
I’m actually reading a non-romance right now: THE TWISTED ONES by T. Kingfisher. My daughter was looking for books for a “Spook-tober” reading challenge she’s participating in this month. When I saw THE TWISTED ONES was on sale, I recommended it to her—then I thought for $1.99 I’d also give it a try. It’s a very atmospheric story of a woman who goes to clear out her late grandmother’s house, discovers an old journal—and then weird things start happening.
In romance, I’m still reading Kate Canterbary’s IN A JAM. Canterbary is usually one of my favorite writers, but I’m having trouble getting into this one.
I love dragon shifters and have read quite a few but it’s hard to know what to recommend. I tend to go for more lighthearted reads rather than suspenseful (and I have read and enjoyed several of Katie Reus’ dragon books).
On the lighter side, Blair Babylon has a lighthearted PNR series, the Dragons Den Casino series with three dragon shifter males who find their mates in three witches.
I also enjoyed a romantic comedy PNR book by Annie Nicholas called Not His Dragon. The series continues with Not His Werewolf, Not His Vampire, etc. and those are fun also, but not dragons.
Zoe Chant is the pen-name for several different authors who write together and have several dragon focused books and series. These are usually quick novella to short novel length reads with fated mates, and respectful relationships – nothing too angsty. For example, the latest are Dragon’s Instinct with a somewhat hapless single dad dragon, Dad Bod Dragon which has an older couple, and Dragons and Cupcakes.
If you are okay with SF Romance, you might try Celia Kyle’s Dragons of Preor series (dragon-like aliens). Lots of dragons flying and fighting in this one. Dragon-like aliens are actually pretty popular in general in SF Romance, LOL.
the Dragon, Stone and Steam series (2 books) by Emma Alisyn. This is a post-apocalyptic world but isn’t too terribly grim – fae, dragons, etc have come through a rift and settled on Earth.
Ruby Dixon has a post-apocalyptic dragon series (the Fireblood Dragon series) starting with Fire in His Blood. I liked the first book but didn’t continue the series.
Finally, the Heartstrikers series by Rachel Aaron starting with Nice Dragons Finish Last. Loved this series, but it’s definitely UF, not romance focused.
I’ve also heard Tooth and Claw by Jo Walton is supposed to be fantastic. It’s apparently Pride and Prejudice with dragons.
