What Are You Reading? (609)

I’ve been reading/listening to two authors the last few weeks. I’ve been reading Dianne Duvall and listening to Julie Garwood. I’m currently reading The Purveli by Dianne Duvall. I’m listening to The Lion’s Lady by Julie Garwood. Both very good books.

I finished listening to Sweep of the Blade by Ilona Andrews, then started Black Moon by J.D. Tyler on audio. I like the narrator, but I’m not sold on the story just yet. I may need to go back and read the previous books in the series. A lot of the plot sounds bad out of context. I read When He’s Sinful by Suzanne Wright, which was just okay. I liked some of the characters and the romance, but the suspense plots were over the top and didn’t really work for me.

I think I’m going to read Hunt the Stars by Jessie Mihalik next.

    Over the past week ~

    — The Impossible Us by Sarah Lotz which I quite enjoyed even though it surprised me with how it dealt with the issues facing the main characters. I found it a gripping read, and my husband got to hear a lot about this book as I was reading it (whether he wanted to or not!)
    — my (100th my husband opined!) reread of Linesman by S. K. Dunstall.
    — Long Shadows (Elizabeth Cage, Book 3) by Jodi Taylor. This book was one surprise after another but was enjoyable overall. This series definitely needs to be read in order. Begin with White Silence (Elizabeth Cage, Book 1).
    — enjoyed two stories by Patricia Briggs: “Underappreciated Gifts” from the anthology A Fantastic Holiday Season
and “Asil and the Not-Date” in the anthology – Fantastic Hope. Both of these stories feature Asil, a werewolf whose pack members have set him up on five blind dates.

A few weeks ago, the first two books in Sherilee Gray’s Rocktown Ink series were free in the Kindle Store, so I grabbed them (the price was right). I read the first book, BEG FOR YOU, yesterday and I’m about halfway through the second book, SIN FOR YOU. These books revolve around a tattoo studio where the heroes (cousins) work. BEG FOR YOU uses the revenge trope, while SIN FOR YOU features the, oh, one-millionth incarnation of the “best friend’s little sister” trope. I would describe these as books serviceable romances, not particularly memorable, but not awful either. Not everything we read is going to be a Deserted Island Keeper!

I read and loved A DUKE FOR DIANA – Sabrina Jeffries latest. I also am reading the final 3 books in Valerie Bowman’s The Footman’s Club series. They are not in sequential order timeline wise which is interesting because there are a couple minor editorial misses that affect the timelines in 2 of the books. I enjoyed them otherwise. I started the final book and haven’t read much since I’m visiting family.
