What Are You Reading? (393)

WAYR-New

Casee: Nothing. I’m reading nothing. Send help.

Holly: A few weeks ago I bought Magic Waking and Soul’s Blade by Eva Chase. They’re Arthurian based UF novels I was pretty excited to read. Life got busy and I didn’t have a chance to read them until this week. Sadly, they didn’t work as well as I’d hoped. Magic Waking was just okay. I loved the flashbacks to Merlin and Arthur 1500 years ago, but the pacing was kind of slow through the modern stuff. Soul’s Blade I ended up DNFing. The plot moved pretty slow and I could see it was going to end on a cliffhanger, so I’m putting it off until the next book is out (Dragon Reborn, November, 2017). I’m a little bummed because I had high hopes, but maybe the third book will tighten things up a bit.

After that I read Kristen Ashley’s latest release, The Time in Between by Kristen Ashley. It wasn’t a bad read, but I think I enjoyed the previous two books in the series more. Next up is Temporary by Sarina Bowen and Sarah Mayberry. I love both authors and I can’t to read this collaboration.

Rowena: Brenna started college this week so it’s been a whirlwind of activity for us. She was dropped from one of her classes that she needed to play basketball (the dropped class put her below the required number of units she needed to play) so she needed to crash courses until she could get in and on Wednesday, she was able to get into a class that she needs. Thank goodness because I wanted to punch someone…the day before classes were due to start, El Camino? Really?

Anyway, I still made time for books though I only read one book. Or, I finished Royally Endowed by Emma Chase, which was a great read and then I jumped into Temporary by Sarina Bowen and Sarah Mayberry and that was a solid romance too.

Now I’m reading Fallen Heir (Royals #4) by Erin Watt and I’m pretty sure this book is going to be a DNF for me. I’m really bummed about that because I really did love Easton before but now? I just can’t deal with all of this stupid shit going on and the shine of my love for this guilty pleasure series is gone and I don’t think I’m going to continue this series. shrugs So now I’m jumping into If There’s No Tomorrow by Jennifer L. Armentrout and I hope I have better luck with this story and characters. Wish me luck.

What are you reading this week? Any new favorites or books that drove you crazy? Share!

I’m super jealous of Holly and Rowena for getting to read Temporary. I can’t wait for that one!

I’m going through a slow reading period again. I also haven’t been reading as much romance since I’m trying to finish a reading challenge. Over the past couple weeks I did read Conspiracy in Belgravia, Sherry Thomas’s new Lady Sherlock book. It was great. I also read A Most Extraordinary Pursuit by Juliana Gray which was decent, but not as good as I’d hoped it would be. I have an arc of the second book in that series to read after I finish the book I’m reading now. Then I listened to Born a Crime by Trevor Noah and read The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. Both were so great and I highly recommend them. Right now I’m reading Full Package by Lauren Blakely before the ebook reading period is over in a couple days. Then it’s on to the Juliana Gray book.

    • Hey, Celine! Temporary was a cute read and I hope you enjoy it when it comes out. 🙂 I’ve got The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas on my wish list. I’m looking forward to reading that one.

    Some recent reads here ~

    — Wildfire: A Hidden Legacy Novel by Ilona Andrews; I enjoyed it. It does leave a significant question unanswered which I’m curious to see if the author will address in future books. You should definitely read this series in order.
    — The Sumage Solution: San Andreas Shifters #1 by G. L. Carriger. This is the same author who wrote the Parasol Protectorate (which I’ve never read), but here she is writing a series featuring male/male romance. The book struck me as fairly silly initially, so I put it aside for a week. I ended up enjoying it, but it did leave me with some questions.
    — Winter Wind by J.R. Rain. The main character was blind, deaf, and also unable to speak; I honestly cannot begin to imagine how challenging life is under those circumstances. I’d classify the book as a mystery with a smattering of romance and an element of the supernatural/extra-sensory.
    — Crossing Realms – Part One (The Crossing Realms Series Book 1) by Shannon Ahn; this was a short, pleasant read.
    — I’ve also started and put aside at least half a dozen books. In general, the books were okay, but they didn’t grab me now.

    • I always envy the amount of reading that you get in each week. You and Holly. Of the books you read, I’m looking forward to Wildfire. I’ve been hearing such good things about that series and that author.

    • You’ll have to let me know what you think of Sarina Bowen once you read her, Renee. She’s a great contemporary romance author. I recommend starting with her Ivy Years series. That’s my favorite. 🙂
