What Are You Reading? (324)

WAYR-New

Casee: This has been a terrible reading week for me. I finished Shadow Reaper by Christine Feehan which I found somewhat boring and rather tedious. I started Revenge by Lexi Blake, which is really good, but I just haven’t sat down and really let myself get into it. Which is annoying me. I’m annoying myself.

Holly: This week I read Shadow Reaper by Christine Feehan. It was just okay. I didn’t dislike it, but I didn’t love it, either. I re-read Clean Sweep, Sweep in Peace and One Fell Sweep by Ilona Andrews and Fairytale Come Alive by Kristen Ashley. I have a bunch of great books on tap, but nothing is really grabbing me. March is usually a great reading month for me. I need to get out of this weird funk I’m in.

Rowena: I’m finishing up Midnight Target by Elle Kennedy and while I’m not a fan of Cate, I’m a big fan of everyone else on the team and I’ve spent quite a bit of the book, wanting to karate chop Cate’s head right off her stupid head. I’m enjoying the book, especially the angst going on between Boston and Sully. Their coming together is going to be epic and I can’t wait. After this, I’m jumping right into my eARC of Walk of Shame by Lauren Layne. I love this woman’s books like no other and I’m seriously anxious to start that book. I just know it’s going to be good, good, good.

That’s it on my end. The month of March has been a fabulous reading month for me and this week wasn’t any different so I’m one happy camper right now. I hope that I finish March out strong.

What are you reading this week? Any new favorites or books that drove you crazy? Share!

    Some recent reads here ~

    — I quite enjoyed the male/male love story For Real (Spires) by Alexis Hall; this is a book I’ll be re-reading.
    — re-read Jo Goodman’s historical romance My Reckless Heart (it’s now on sale for 99 cents for Kindle readers).
    — a re-read of a 1989 Nora Roberts’ book, For Now, Forever (MacGregors, Book 5), which I enjoyed once more.
    — I stayed up way too late reading Desperately Seeking Epic by BN Toler. This book had me crying. Trigger alert for child with cancer. Kindle version is currently on sale for 99 cents. This is a book I’ll likely re-read.
    — I’ve been reading these two books since my husband and I were found to have elevated blood pressure. I enjoyed them both, and a number of the recipes sound quite enticing. Both are by Jessica Goldman Foung. Low-So Good: A Guide to Real Food, Big Flavor, and Less Sodium with 70 Amazing Recipes AND Sodium Girl’s Limitless Low-Sodium Cookbook.
    — Laura Florand’s A Crown of Bitter Orange (La Vie en Roses Book 3) which I enjoyed.
    — a re-read of Lisa Kleypas’ contemporary romance Brown-Eyed Girl. I enjoyed the book more this time though I still prefer other books in the same series.
    — a very enjoyable young adult book that is a modern day Canterbury Tales retelling.
Sometimes We Tell the Truth by Kim Zarins
    — Exile by Colleen Vanderlinden — this was a pleasant read but it’s definitely part one of two. it’s set on a future earth in rough shape; the hero is one of an alien race that settled on earth some years ago while the heroine is the niece of a king.
    — Starting Over: A Story by Ruthie Knox — this was a short piece about failure and hope that I quite liked and will likely re-read. (Definite adult content) This is free today to Kindle readers.
    — Two short holiday stories featuring male/male romances by a favorite author; these are free today to KIndle readers ~ Joys R Us AND The Festivus Miracle, both by Kim Fielding
    — Locked Box by Eve Dangerfield — this is currently free to Kindle readers; it’s a contemporary romance. I’d have liked a bit more story.
    — the contemporary romance Royally Screwed (The Royally Series Book 1) by Emma Chase; it was an entertaining read but it’s not likely a book I’ll re-read.

    • I’ve had Royally Screwed on my TBR for such a long time and I keep meaning to read it but always find reasons not to. Hmm, I wonder why that is. *shrugs*

I wasn’t a huge fan of Brown Eyed Girl, at least compared to the other books in that series. Poor Joe. I was much more into his siblings than him.

I hope the cook books you read help keep your blood pressure low sweets. 🙂

Ugh I resolved to be better about recording my reading on Goodreads this year but so far I’m not being as accurate as I want. I know I read at least a couple more books this week but now I can’t remember them! I ended up not having as much reading time this week as I would have liked given that I was on break, but I still did squeeze in some books. I’m working my way through Shelly Laurenston’s Pride series and I think I read books 5, 6 and 7 this week? I just love that series so much, and I especially loved book 6 which is Dee-Ann’s book. So hilarious. I also read another book in Cynthia Eden’s Lost series, which I enjoyed. And finally, I finished up the Harlequin Nocturne trilogy I started last week, and I ended up having tons of fun with it.

    • Do you keep a book journal? A planner? You can track all of your books read in something like that if you don’t update GR all that often. I live and die by my planner because without it, I wouldn’t remember anything.

Rowena, I am so jealous that you have an arc of Walk of Shame! Hope it lives up to expectations.

My reading week has been so slow. I finished up Cream of the Crop last Friday night. I liked the heroine, the humor, and the tone of the story, but I felt I needed more of the hero’s perspective and the relationship never felt like it evolved past the insta-lust phase. Saturday I read Devil in Spring by Lisa Kleypas and I really enjoyed it. It didn’t live up to any of the books in the Wallflower series, but that’s a high bar. It was probably my favorite of the Ravenels so far. Saturday night I started As Death Draws Near, the fifth Lady Darby mystery, by Anna Lee Huber. It’s good, like the entire series, but life’s been busy and I’m in a reading slump. Hopefully, I’ll finish the last 30% tonight so I can move on to something new.

    • Hey CelineB!

Yeah, I was pretty lucky to score an eARC of Walk of Shame and it was much better than the other books in the Love Unexpectedly series. It’s a good one, for sure. I inhaled that book in one sitting.

Cream of the Crop, is that by Alice Clayton?

Devil in Spring was my favorite Ravenel book, too and I agree that as good as it was, it wasn’t as good as the Wallflower books. I love those books.

Have a great reading week, Celine!

  4. I am sorry to hear that Shadow Reaper wasn’t what you were expecting. I loved book one, so I am still looking forward to it. I do like Lauren Layne quite a bit Rowena, so hope you have fun with that one.

    • Hey Renee!

Walk of Shame was great! You have much to look forward with that one. Are you planning on reading Crushed now that I’ve told you it’s good? 🙂
