Casee: I’ve been doing some good reading this last week. I finished Power Game by Christine Feehan which I really enjoyed. Bellisia and Ezekiel were a breath of fresh air. I’ve also been rereading the In Death series. I love getting to know Eve and Roarke all over again. It really makes me remember why Eve Dallas is one of the best heroines in romance (in my not-so-humble opinion).
Today I’m reading Satisfaction by Lexi Blake. I am loving this book. So far it’s even better than Ruthless. Revenge and romance go together perfectly, don’t they? I can’t put it down.
Holly: I did some more rereading early in the week. Fairytale Come Alive, Law Man and Wild Man by Kristen Ashley. I love the drama and angst in the first half of Fairytale Come Alive. Then I completely skip the last 1/4 because it’s so cheesy. I almost couldn’t finish Law Man. Mara drove me crazy. The first part of Wild Man is bad, but it’s good once I get past the 1/4 mark. Heart of Fire and Bluebird Winter by Linda Howard (which, incidentally, I always read as Bluebeard..heh). Heart of Fire is always a favorite. I enjoyed it just as much this time around. Bluebird Winter is just okay. I don’t feel like the story was as fleshed out as some of her other novellas. I’d have liked to see more for Derek.
For new books, I read Stolen Magic and Murdered Gods by Marina Finlayson. I enjoyed both, but I’m irritated that they were so short and ended on cliffhangers. I hope the next one releases quickly.
Rowena: I read all of the books last week and this week I’m catching up on shows and movies so my reading has slowed down some. After last week’s post, I read Seven Minutes in Heaven by Eloisa James (great read), Fury on Fire by Sophie Jordan (good), By Your Side by Kasie West (not her best but still good), #famous by Jilly Gagnon (okay), Hollywood Dirt by Alessandra Torre (fabulous) and finished up with Coming Up for Air by Miranda Kenneally (I need another Hundred Oaks books pronto!). All in all, I had a really great reading week.
I started The Bastard Billionaire by Jessica Lemmon the other day but I haven’t made much progress yet as I’ve been busy with other stuff but I’m hoping to get that read today. After I finish this, I’ll be reading Act Like It and Pretty Face by Lucy Parker. I’ve been hearing great things about those books so I’m looking forward to digging in.
What are you reading this week? Any new favorites or books that drove you crazy? Share!
I read a couple of good books this week, Baron by Joanna Shupe, Rise by Karina Bliss, and The Little Paris Bookshop by Nina George, which wasn’t a romance but was a bittersweet story featuring a 50 YO Paris bookseller who runs a bookshop on a barge on the Seine. In addition to being a good story, it also ended up being somewhat of a travelogue as the bookseller casts off and begins a river journey from Paris down to Provence, so there were lots of beautiful descriptions of the countryside. I haven’t been to Provence, but it definitely made me want to visit. To continue that theme, I’m now reading Once Upon a Rose, the first in Laura Florand’s La Vie en Rose series which is, of course, also set in Provence and is making me want to go there even more.
I read Julia Quinn’s new anthology, Four Weddings and a Sixpence, earlier in the month and loved it (no surprise). now I’m on the 7th story in the Debbie Macomber’s All I Want for Christmas anthology. Other than that, I’ve just been reading blogs, facebook, cookbooks, and ancestry stuff.
I’m in a bit of a slump. I’m reading, but it’s slow-going. I read Someone Like You by Lauren Lane and it was so, so good. It still took me five days to get through. I started Jockblocked by Jen Frederick two days ago and I’m only about halfway through. It’s good, but not gripping me. That may be the slump talking though. When I finally finish Jockblocked, I have the Downed, the next in the Gridiron series, up next.
Current reads here include ~
— I’ve recently finished The Emperor’s Edge as well as the prequel short story Shadows Over Innocence both by Lindsay Buroker. The Emperor’s Edge series (now about nine books long) is a favorite of my adult daughter, so I thought I’d give it a try. I enjoyed these two works. There is some violence but I think these would be fine for teen readers, too. Both are currently free to Kindle readers.
— enjoyed The Weight Of It All by N.R. Walker; this is likely a book I’ll re-read. It’s a male/male romance.
— The Protectorit by Kelly Tharp which I was finding a pleasant read until it annoyingly ended with a cliffhanger.
— re-read some books by Sarina Bowen, a favorite author. I enjoyed revisiting them all.
The Year We Fell Down (The Ivy Years Book 1)
The Year We Hid Away (The Ivy Years Book 2)
Blonde Date: An Ivy Years Novella
The Understatement of the Year (Ivy Years 3)
The Shameless Hour (The Ivy Years Book 4)
The Fifteenth Minute (The Ivy Years Book 5)
— Gave up on Amanda Bouchet’s Breath of Fire (The Kingmaker Chronicles Book 2)
I enjoyed the first book in the series and might have enjoyed this had I read it immediately thereafter instead of losing my momentum while waiting for its publication. Also gave up on
Timekeeper by Tara Sim.
— read with pleasure the contemporary romance Wild at Whiskey Creek: A Hellcat Canyon Novel by Julie Anne Long which had some downright funny scenes and banter.
— and re-read Mariana Zapata’s Kulti and Wall of Winnipeg books; enjoyed them both.
