Holly: I had a pretty sad reading week. I managed to finish The Thing About Love by Julie James and I read Alphas: Origins by Ilona Andrews, but otherwise I just skimmed a couple re-reads. I’m actually in the mood for something similar to Ilona Andrews or Patricia Briggs. Anyone have any recommendations?
Rowena: I’m not sure if it’s the end of year giving me the blues or what but I only read one book this week. Well, after I finished This is Our Song by Samantha Chase. That book ended up being good. I liked it but just as I was going to start my book club book, I got an eARC of The Thing about Love by Julie James and well, I never even opened my book club book, I just jumped right into the Julie James….and I loved it. Of course, I loved it. Julie James takes care of my reading needs each and every single time and this time was no different. Such a good book. Now, I’m reading my book club book, haha. That book is Delicious by Sherry Thomas and it’s slow going. I’m hoping it picks up soon because I only have 3 days to finish this book and I’m only on chapter 5. Wish me luck!
What are you reading this week? Any new favorites or books that drove you crazy? Share!
Recent reads here ~
— I recently finished Blank Spaces (Toronto Connections Book 1) by Cass Lennox which was an enjoyable read even though some of the happenings in the book strained credulity.. It’s the second book I’ve read recently that features an asexual character.
— Gambled Away: A Historical Romance Anthology by Joanna Bourne, Rose Lerner, Molly O’Keefe, Isabel Cooper, and Jeannie Lin. These stories, which range in time from Tang Dynasty China to the late 1930s in the US, all contain an element of gambling. I bought the anthology because it contains a story by Joanna Bourne (who is a favorite author of mine) but ultimately enjoyed all the stories.
— re-read Butterfly Tattoo by Deidre Knight which I enjoyed revisiting.
— the contemporary romance Her Naughty Holiday (Men at Work) by Tiffany Reisz; this was a quick and entertaining read with some amusing dialogue.
— I read an entertaining romance that had me trying to stifle my laughter in bed and on the bus. I’d recommend it. Now I’m curious to read more by this author to see if her other books are equally entertaining. Now That It’s You by Tawna Fenske
For me, this looks pretty light. I’ve been busy with holiday preparations and the like.
oh sorry to hear you are having so much trouble with Sherry Thomas. I have been wanting to try her out, so I hope it picks up for you soon.
Holly…have you tried Nalini Singh—she has a PNR and a UF series I think you would really like if you haven’t picked them up yet.
Don’t get Holly started on Nalini Singh – she is a total fan girl and claims, CLAIMS that Judd from Caressed By Ice is her book boyfriend. Ha – everyone knows he is MINE!
Had a lousy reading week – tooth extraction, dry socket and now an infection, so no reading here. Just lots of ow, ow, OW noises!
haha okay goodie!!! I was worried she hadn’t tried her yet. I do love Judd….but I will let you guys fight over him….I am keeping Cooper. He is MY book boyfriend.
Oh I know how tooth extractions are….very painful. A few months ago I had to have special surgery for one and yeah heavy drugs were my friend. The worst is not being able to eat hardly anything. Hope you feel better soon.
Cooper is a cutie too
Awww – thank you tooth issues have their own special place in hell.
If you have any heavy drugs left over please send them . . . soonest.
You wish he was yours. I have a pin from Nalini that says Judd is my Book Boyfriend. Sorry (not sorry). :p
Patricia Briggs and Ilona Andrews are two of the best UF authors out there so they are hard to measure up to, but have you ever tried Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress series? I think you’d like the main couple, Cat and Bones, and the second book has the famous Chapter 32, one of the sexiest sex scenes ever written in a UF series. I also absolutely adore the Arcadia Bell series by Jenn Bennett. The premise is very different from the usual UF and the romance in it between Cady and Lon is really lovely. Finally, I’d recommend Larissa Ione’s Demonica series, smokin’ hot demon heroes, tons of action and rather intricate plots.
Larissa I one’s demonic series is wonderful – Eidolon is my book boyfriend AND I have a signed rubber Demon Duckie!
Tracy just rec’d Jeaniene Frost’s series to me, too. I have a couple books TBR. I’ll dig them out. I know I read a couple of the Demonica books, but it’s been ages and I’m hazy on the details. I haven’t even heard of the Jenn Bennett series. I’m going to download a sample of that tonight.
