Holly: This has been a sad reading week for me. It’s been crazy around here and I’ve barely had time to think, much less read. Aside from a re-read of Heart of Obsidian (because Rowena was talking about it and I had to), I’ve read nothing. So sad.
Rowena: I’m still reading the Psy/Changelings series. I should finish Aden’s book today and then I’m going to jump right into Allegiance of Honor and then I’m going to grieve that I ran out of books in the series to read and then I’m going to jump into my June review pile that’s been patiently waiting for me.
What are you reading this week? Any new favorites or books that drove you crazy? Share!
Books I read this week; I liked them all unless I say otherwise ~
— the new adult novel Undecided by Julianna Keyes. I’d previously read another book by this author, Going the Distance, and now I’m tempted to re-read that.
— the contemporary romance Chase Me (Paris Nights Book 2) by Laura Florand
— new fantasy The Summer Dragon: First Book of the Evertide by Todd Lockwood; I enjoyed it even though it’s not quite what I would normally read.
— the historical romance Julia Quinn’s Because of Miss Bridgerton
— the contemporary romance Beautiful Sacrifice by Jamie McGuire; it’s the third book in a series but it stands alone well. The last quarter of the book was a bit pat.
— the historical romance Fortune Favors the Wicked (Royal Rewards) by Theresa Romain.
It featured a hero who is blind (according to the author he was modeled on a man who became blind as a young man, traveled the world, and wrote a book of his adventures) and a heroine who is a courtesan.
— a re-read of Exposed to You by Beth Kery
— currently reading the contemporary romance Rhythm, Chord & Malykhin by Mariana Zapata
Ugh, I think I’m in a reading slump! I actually have some time to read again and I am, but not a ton. I don’t know if my brain is just so exhausted it can’t focus, but I started several books and couldn’t get into them. *sob* But I did read Damage Control, a scifi romance that was (is?) on sale this week, and I lived that one. Oh and I finally got around to reading Til Death Do Us Part by Amanda Quick, which I also enjoyed. So, at least the little reading I’m doing has been good. I also picked up a paper bag full of paperbacks for a quarter each at the thrift store but even a pile of Intrigues couldn’t tempt me to read. I hope this passes soon! 🙁
My favorite book this week was a non-fiction, The Year of Living Danishly. It was surprisingly humorous and I absolutely loved it. It was written by a British expat who moved to rural Denmark with her husband and decided to investigate why the Danes score at the top of the UN’s happiness index every year.
I also read The Duke of Olympia Meets His Match which features a 74 YO Duke as the hero and a 50 YO widow as the heroine. Older MCs in romance are so rare that I’ll usually buy any book that has them. Happily, this was a very good novella length read.
