Holly: We skipped last week so I’m posting both here.
We spent last week at Disneyland with the four-year-old, so I didn’t get much reading in. I re-read a couple books, but that’s it.
Unfortunately this week was crazy busy, so I didn’t get any reading done, either. I didn’t even finish a book.
2015 was kind of a sad reading year for me. I really, really, really don’t want 2016 to follow the same path. Reading mojo, please come back!!!
Rowena: It was my fault that we skipped last week’s WAYR post, sorry about that. I was celebrating my kid’s 17th birthday. Yikes. I’m so old.
I did get some reading in. I read the entire Sex, Love & Stiletto’s series by Lauren Layne, a series that I really enjoyed. I read each book back to back to back to back. It was great fun! I’m really loving Lauren Layne’s back list. She’s a definite keeper and auto-buy author now. Yay!
After I finished the Stiletto books, I re-read Once & Always by Judith McNaught for my book club meeting this week. Man, I’m conflicted on how I feel about that book. On one hand, I was fully invested but hot damn I wanted to kick Jason’s punk ass.
I didn’t get a lot of sleep this week because I was too busy reading. I looked a lot like this:
Now I’m reading Because of Miss Bridgerton by Julia Quinn. I started to read this a couple of weeks ago but wasn’t in the mood so I put it down and started the Stiletto books. Now I’m back and about halfway through it and am liking it. Billie and George. So cute!
What are you reading this week? Any new favorites or books that drove you crazy? Share!
Well, I’m in the middle of two books right now ~ one is a re-read of Ilona Andrews On the Edge, the other is a first read of the fantasy novel The Twelve Kingdoms: The Mark of the Tala by Jeffe Kennedy. Both are good.
Recent reads include: (All were enjoyable unless I say otherwise below.)
— the contemporary romance novella Skin Deep (The I-Team Series Book 6) by Pamela Clare
— the graphic novel Displacement by Lucy Knisley
— a re-read of Oracle’s Moon (A Novel of the Elder Races) by Thea Harrison.
— Deadly Remains: Book One of A Clairvoyant’s Complicated Life by Katherine Bayless – it’s a combination of urban fantasy, mystery, and romance; it had some unusual elements.
— Sarina Bowen’s The Fifteenth Minute (The Ivy Years Book 5); the first in the series is still my favorite but I liked this one, too.
— Heidi Cullinan’s Lonely Hearts which is the third book in her Love Lessons series. One must start with at least book two in this series (and preferably book one) because much of the story is developed before this book begins.
— I no longer recall what caused me to request this book; I likely came across the title in a list of epistolary books. It’s not quite what I was expecting, but it was interesting nonetheless. I read about half of it, skimmed the rest, and listened to the accompanying CD ~ For the Sender: Love Letters from Vietnam by Alex Woodard
— a western historical romance about which I’d heard good things ~ Eyes of Silver, Eyes of Gold by Ellen O’Connell
— the contemporary romance Controlled Burn (Boston Fire) by Shannon Stacey
Hey Kareni!
Looks like another good reading week for you. Whatever you’re taking to get that much reading in, you should share it with Holly. Haha.
I’m right there with you on The Fifteenth Minute. It’s another great book but it’s not my favorite of the bunch. I love Hartley but my favorite book in the series is the second one.
What did you think of Controlled Burn?
Holly clearly needs to eat more chocolate; that’s my drug of choice!
I enjoyed Controlled Burn; however, my favorite Shannon Stacey books (thus far) are the earlier Kowalski books.
It’s been a very slow reading month so far for me. I’m not sure why, since I retired a few months back, and you’d think I’d be doing more reading, but instead, I’m actually reading less. Oh well, I’m sure it will pick up. This week I read Cold Burn of Magic by Jennifer Estep. I rarely read YA, as I find usually find the protagonists to be whiny and self-centered (typical teens, basically), but I love Jennifer’s writing and her heroines and she’s one of the only authors that I will follow into YA UF. I also read Wicked Sexy Liar by Christina Lauren. It was my first book by these authors and I really enjoyed it, so now I’m looking to try some others.
Oh, and it just occurred to me that it’s Friday and that means that Ilona Andrews has probably posted a new episode of One Fell Sweep, the serial that she’s currently writing. Yippee – I’m off to read that now.
I’m reading Alone in the Dark by Karen Rose. I love her. Her books are usually 500 pages, but I am so drawn in that I finish them in a day. Loves;.
