Holly: I had a pretty good reading week.
I started the week re-reading Law Man by Kristen Ashley, which rounded out my re-read of the Dream Man series. I didn’t care for the series the first time I read and that didn’t change. The series still sucked. Surprisingly, though, book 2, Wild Man, ended up being my favorite of the three. I even enjoyed it, much to my amazement. Not a series I’ll probably read again. Rowena and I were talking about The Shape of My Heart by Ann Aguirre, so I did a quick re-read of that. I also re-read Just the Sexiest Man Alive by Julie James. I loved that book the first time I read it. I saw more of the flaws with this re-read, but I can’t deny it was an awesome story.
For new books, I read Tank, the first Blue-Collar Billionaires book, but M. Malone. It was featured in the Light Me Up box set, a collection of seven stories by some of my favorite authors. Since it’s only $.99 (for a limited time), y’all should jump on it. Every book is the first in the collective series. I really liked the story. I’ll be picking up the rest of the books soon.
Reckless by Skye Jordan, a free download. As well all know, free reads can be hit or miss (mostly miss) but this one was pretty great. I was dialed in from the beginning. I especially loved the relationship between the heroine and her best friend. Let’s hear it for strong feminine bonds.
Under Pressure by Laurie Roma is a book I saw recommended on Twitter and decided to read it after checking out the blurb. While I can’t deny the story was sweet, I had a hard time overlooking the lack of editing, choppy writing and plot holes. I liked the story, but I didn’t love it.
Today I’m re-reading Bound by Night by Larissa Ione to refresh my memory for Chained by Night. I’d forgotten how much I loved this book.
Rowena: I’ve had a good reading streak in the last couple of weeks and that makes me happy. This week, I finished Wild by Sophie Jordan, which was good despite a few things that drove me bat shit crazy. I also read The Fine Art of Pretending by Rachel Harris which was a cute contemporary YA that I enjoyed. It was short and sweet and just perfect for my mood.
Right after the Rachel Harris, I read Torn Away by Jennifer Brown and while I didn’t hate the book, the protagonist got on my hot damn nerves and while I was trying to be more understanding, considering her situation, she still got on my nerves. Now, I’m finishing up the YA anthology My True Love Gave to Me with stories by Stephanie Perkins, Rainbow Rowell and other fantastic authors. So far, my favorite story in this one is Rainbow Rowell’s story. That was ADORABLE.
After this, I’m going to read the NA Anthology, When We Met that I got for review. I’m pretty anxious to start it.
What are you reading?
I read Larissa Ione’s Chained By Night 😀 Also re-read Midnight Caller by Leslie Tentler – was great!
I finished Chained by Night yesterday. What did you think of it?
I enjoyed it although some parts of the quest were solved a little too easily – oh look, I can make portals 😀 looking forward to Mynes book – hoping against hope that he doesn’t get matched with Rasha!
While I like this series I don’t love it like her Demonica books! 😉 Eidolon is mine 😀
I had a great reading week. I read In your Dreams by Kristan Higgins, He’s So Fine by Jill Shalvis, Season of Desire by Theresa Romain, Indecent Proposal by Molly O’Keefe and What a Wallflower Wants by Maya Rodale. I enjoyed all of them. Now I’m trying to finish two books I started weeks ago then put down and never picked up again, A Scandal to Remember by Elizabeth Essex and The Well of Ascension by Brandon Anderson.
That’s a good number of books! Awesome.
What did you think of the Molly O’Keefe? I have that in my TBR pile.
I loved the O’Keefe book. Marriage of convenience is one of my favorite tropes so I had been looking forward to this one. O’Keefe always has such great character development and hot sex scenes.
