Holly: I’m hosting a Christmas Eve get together and a full Christmas Day dinner for about 20 people for the 7th year running. This means my reading time is extremely limited as I try to get my house ready for the invasion. Next year I’m going away for Christmas. I really mean it this time.
I read Kaleidoscope by Kristen Ashley, which I enjoyed more than her previous two releases. I also read Feral Sins by Suzanne Wright, a shifter romance I really liked. I tried reading Attainment by J.H. Cardwell, but I didn’t get past the first chapter before I had to set it aside. The writing was terrible and the editing a joke. The story might have been interesting, but it was overshadowed. I also read Back to You by Jessica Scott, a book I’ve been waiting years for. I have to say, Scott did an excellent job of keeping the realism of war while wrapping me up in the story. Definitely a realistic look at the damage the war has done on the heroes who fought in it.
I read two anthologies, Snow Day featuring Shannon Stacey, Jennifer Greene and Barbara Dunlap and Christmas on Main Street by JoAnn Ross, Susan Donovan, LuAnn McLane and Alexis Morgan. I enjoyed both, though some of the novellas were better than others.
I hope to have more reading time after the holidays. I’m seriously behind in my yearly reading goal.
Rowena: I’m not ready for Christmas this year. I’m just not in the right mind frame from Christmas. My poor kid. But I did manage to get some reading done this week.
I read Dead Girls Don’t Lie by Jennifer Shaw Wolf, which is a young adult suspense book which was enjoyable. I had some issues connecting with the main character at times and I was completely off with the love interest so Shaw Wolf did a fabulous job of tricking me. I also read Castle Hill and Before Jamaica Lane by Samantha Young. I enjoyed both books, Before Jamaica Lane more than Castle Hill though. I adored Nate and Liv’s story. They worked well for me and I loved seeing their best friend turn into the love of their lives. It was adorable. Samantha Young keeps putting out the good stuff and I keep eating it up. I can’t wait for Hannah and Marco’s book. I just finished reading Romancing the Duke by Tessa Dare. And like all other Dares, I thoroughly enjoyed this one. I mean, it started off a little slow but once it picked up, it really picked up. I loved it. The blind hero, the plain heroine, the steamy romance? It kind of put me in mind of the old school romances that Holly and I miss. It was that kind of romantic. sigh
Now I’m reading Simple Perfection by Abbi Glines. So far, it’s okay but I’m hoping that it will pick up. We’ll see.
