What Are You Reading on this Last Day of September? (76)

Rowena: I can’t believe October is already knocking at our doors. Halloween is literally right around the corner and then before we know it, it’ll be Thanksgiving and Holly will have her baby and then Christmas will be here. Jeez, it’ll be a hectic next few months but I’m kind of excited. At the moment, I’m reading Heartstrings and Diamond Rings by Jane Graves. I’m really enjoying it so far so I’m hopeful that it’ll be a keeper. After I finish this one, then it’s on to Tris and Izzie by Mette Ivie Harrison. I’m plugging away at my TBR pile so wish me luck on that. =)

Holly: The baby is ruining my reading mojo. I can’t concentrate long enough to finish a book in one sitting, and I get so distracted when I set it down I forget to go back. I’m a mess. I did read The Pirate Prince by Gaelen Foley this week. I remember loving it the first time I read it (many years ago) but I had a hard time recalling exactly why. Although I think it held up, the drama and angst were a little much. If you’re curious, I live-tweeted while reading. You can check it out on Twitter under the hashtag #ThePiratePrince (http://twitter.com/#!/search/%23ThePiratePrince).

Now I have no idea what to read. I might go through my pile of unread category romances. Maybe reading shorter stories is a better idea right now.

Casee: I just finished reading Blood and Fire by Shannon McKenna. I love Shannon McKenna. After finishing it, it’s been hard to find a book to get into. I decided to try Cheri on Top by Susan Donovan. I am hoping it’s more like her earlier books. I haven’t much liked the last few. We shall see.

What are you reading?

Been reading some backlist from Julie Ann Long to keep me alive until November’s release of Heart of Steel from Meljean Brook. And because I’m overdosed on historical, I did read Linda Howard’s Prey. It was surprisingly…better. The characters are there, the sensual tension is still a swift kick in the gut, and hell, i didn’t even mind reading about the bear’s pov. The grisly death scenes gave us glimpse of old LH. Unfortunately, the repetitiveness (internal rationization, re-accounting of thoughts and expanation) is still there.
But the storyline is good and basic. Since she is a my childhood favorite, I’ve given up on giving her up. I hope she will one day overcome her problem.

  2. @Mary Ellen, I loved that book the first time I read it. I should re-read and see if it holds up. Then again, maybe not. I gave up on Ward a long time ago. I should hold onto the good memory.

@mph – I’ve missed you! I’m glad to hear you say that about Prey. I felt that way about her last book. There were flashes of the old LH, which gives me hope for the future. I’m crossing my fingers.

I read Heart of Steel. Am-Az-Ing. srsly. If you want to try your luck, we’re giving away a copy. Today is the last day to enter.

    Hello Mary Ellen,

Welcome to Book Binge. Thanks for stopping by. I usually have to go back and re-read certain books because I blew through them so fast I forget what I read.

Yeah, I totally changed my mind. I’m reading Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins next. I can’t help myself, I’m antsy to read it already.

I’m reading another new-to-me author: Carly Phillips’ book, Serendipity. I’m about half-way through and enjoying it.
