Rowena: It’s the first week of the new year and I haven’t really picked up any books. I suck. I just haven’t been in the mood so I’m reading a big, fat NOTHING. I need to get my ass in gear because I challenged myself to read 150 books this year and I won’t complete that task if I’m not reading. I opened A Rogue by Any Other Name by Sarah MacLean to read though, so I’m going to read that this weekend, at least that’s my hope.
Holly: I’ve read a few books this week. First I re-read Mesmerized by Lauren Dane. I really adore her Phantom Corps series – a spinoff of her Federation Universes series. Then I read Captivated, her upcoming release. I’ve been itching for that book since I first read Mesmerized at the beginning of last year. It was so worth the wait. Julian and Vincenz. Mmmm.
Today I read True Colors, an Elder Races short by Thea Harrison. It was good, but didn’t pack the punch her full length novels do. It was enjoyable, however, and I’d recommend it for fans of the series, or for those who are curious about it. I also re-read A Rogue By Any Other Name by Sarah MacLean. Again. No, I’m not obsessive-compulsive at all. Why do you ask?
Casee: My reading selection has been very unfortunate so far this year. Two authors authors that I’ve always loved. Two DNF’s in a row. A Place Called Home by Jo Goodman, which makes me so sad I want to cry. I have loved everything she has ever written. I think it’s her first contemporary and I couldn’t wait to try it. The next DNF was Whispers in the Dark by Maya Banks. More about that in my review.
I’m now trying Sleepwalker by Karen Robards. I’m hoping my luck improves.
What are you reading this week?
I’m still undecided on what to read next.
A Dark Hunter book? I don’t know…will you read Dragon Bound if I say yes?
Sorry to hear about the Goodman. I’m waiting on it from the library and hope I am happier with it than you were.
I finished an amazing book, Among Others by Jo Walton. Hard to follow, so picked up a Lucy Monroe Harlequin. Not enjoying it though. 🙁
Dragon Bound was very fun! Go for it! I think I’m going to skip past the second one though, and move on to the third, because it’s not doing anything for me.
@Rowena – I’m going to make a list of all the books I told you to read that you put off and then eventually loved. I bet there are hundreds.
@Willaful – I liked Storm’s Heart least of all the books. I really liked Serpent’s Kiss. So far Oracle’s Moon is the best. Or maybe Dragon Bound. Or maybe both?
Cannot wait for the Whispers in the Dark review. It was the cheesiest thing I’ve ever read (family prayers where they all declare their love for each other?!), plus she completely stole Christine Feehan’s Ghostwalkers ideas and rewrote that series – but worse. It’s not the first time she’s borrowed liberally from other writers’ books.
I have no plans to continue reading that series.
Holly,
So what are you reading now? Are you still trying to decide? If I tell you to read an SK Dark Hunter book (for your paranormal mood) would you read one?
Shit.
Oy, why can I already read the blog post in my head? Haha, there haven’t been that many, have there?
Last 2 I finished were Hidden Summit by Robyn Carr and Lover’s Leap by Emily Martin. Liked them both very much.
Am going to start Donna Kauffman’s Sugar Rush.
Pat L.
I just finished A Lady’s Lesson in Scandal by Meredith Duran. It was an interesting book.
@Pat L. I so saw this in the bookstore when I went yesterday and I thought I picked it up but I walked out without it. I’m bummed because I wanted to read it. Let me know how you liked it, will ya?
@Kim: Did you like it?
I’m finishing a re-read of Nora Roberts’ Sing of 7 trilogy (most of her titles are comfort reads for me) and then diving into Shiloh Walker’s The Departed
I’m still trying to get in the mood to read Joanna Chambers’ debut–as well as a Mia Marlowe and a Vanessa Jaye stories.
Must get in the groove, dammit!!!
@Rowena It took me awhile to get into it, but I did like it. Meredith Duran does an incredible job of contrasting the poverty of the heroine’s upbringing against life in the aristocracy.
