I’ve not really been into reading lately. I’ve been listening to audiobooks mostly. It’s sad. I’m currently reading Chosen Destiny (Twisted Fate Trilogy #3) by Jen L. Grey. It’s an okay read, but nothing spectacular. They are a somewhat entertaining and easy read. I was hoping for more, though. I was looking forward to glomming her backlist, which isn’t going to happen. See? Sad.
I decided to listen to the entire Psy-Changeling series on audio. I’m currently listening to Blaze of Memory (Psy-Changeling #7) by Nalini Singh. I don’t remember loving this one the first time around, but this time it’s pretty good.

December was kind of a crazy month for me, and January is shaping up to be more of the same. Casee and I both took on new roles in our professional lives that has left even less time for reading than before (which in my case wasn’t a lot to begin with). I’m still reading (thank you, audiobooks!), but not nearly as much as I would like to be.
I’m currently reading the Stariel series by A.J. Lancaster, a new to me author. I got the ebook and purchased the audio add-on so I could switch between reading and listening. I’m really loving the narrator. I finished The Lord of Stariel, The Prince of Secrets, and The Court of Mortals. I’m almost finished with the fourth book, The King of Faerie. I’ve really fallen into the series and I’m anxious to see where things go next.
Other books I’ve read recently include The Last Sky by Jess Anastasi (just okay), The Graham Effect by Elle Kennedy (loved) and The Legacy by Elle Kennedy (an interesting collection of “where are they now” novellas).
I’ve read several books this week ~
— Alawahea (The Azellian Affairs Book 1) by Sara L. Daigle was an enjoyable contemporary fantasy about a young woman and her involvement with a group of aliens visiting earth as exchange students. The aliens look like humans but have (unannounced) psychic powers; their planet also has very different cultural mores. I might read on in the series.
— I read two contemporary romances by the same author and enjoyed them both.
** Superfan: A Hockey Romance (Brooklyn Hockey Book 3) by Sarina Bowen features two people (a singer and a hockey goalie) who make a connection and then are reunited several years later.
** Good as Gold by Sarina Bowen which features long ago friends who reunite years later. The recently divorced heroine has decided to pursue becoming a single parent, and the hero is willing to help.
— I also read an illustrated book which was a combination of American history, food, and art: And the Pursuit of Happiness by Maira Kalman.
I just finished Emergency Contact by Lauren Layne. It was an okay read, but not her best. There was a little too much sniping between the hero & heroine. The book was co-written with her husband, but it didn’t feel like there were two different voices. They successfully melded their writing styles.
I have about six books going right now—which is really too many, as I keep criss-crossing plot points in my head—but the two that are at the top are CENTER ICE by Julia Connors (m/f; hockey player discovers he fathered a child five years before and learns the spark is still there with his child’s mother) and END OF STORY by Kylie Scott (m/f; a woman falls for her ex’s best friend when he helps renovate her home; there’s a paranormal element involved too because the couple find a divorce decree with their names on it—dated ten years in the future).

overall I enjoyed END OF STORY; however, there was never any explanation given for those papers.
I know! I really was hoping—seeing as the book was not marketed as a paranormal romance—that there would be some explanation, but I finished the book and…nothing!
That’s so disappointing. I was excited to read it strictly for the paranormal aspect. Bummer.
It’s a good book—and I liked how the couple started out focusing on the things that MIGHT have led to their future divorce and were therefore determined to avoid them—but, seeing as the divorce decree document is the only paranormal element in the book—I really wanted Scott to provide a “normal” reason for it.
Likewise! I felt a bit robbed as it was not addressed.
