Holly
The last week of November really kicked my butt. Between work and family obligations, I had very little time to read. I finished listening to Things We Left Behind by Lucy Score. I really liked it and it promoted me to go back and reread the first book in the series, Things We Never Got Over. After that I was in the mood for more contemporary romance, so I read Gull Harbor by Kathryn Knight, a new-to-me author. The story was just okay. There wasn’t a lot of depth or emotion, which made for a quick – if not very engaging – read. I listened to Not My Kind of Hero by Pippa Grant, which was enjoyable and engaging, though I could have done without some of the added drama. Then I read Hidden Miles by Claire Kingsley, which is the 6th book in the series but the only one I’ve read. I liked it, but again there was a lot of added drama that seemed to carry over from previous books that I wasn’t super interested in.
I DNF’d It Happened One Summer by Tessa Bailey and Witches Get Stuff Done by Molly Harper on audio. I might go back to them at a later date or try to read them instead, but I wasn’t into either one at the moment.
Other than that, I re-read a few books and read through a lot of samples. I haven’t decided what I’m going to read next.
I’m reading BEST SERVED COLD by Willie Dixon. It’s an m/m antagonists-to-lovers romance between two coworkers, one of whom is ACE and the other is both ARO and suffering from religious trauma.
The author is Willow Dixon.
I have a couple Willow Dixon books in my TBR. I’m glad to know you enjoy them.
I read two rather disparate books over the past week ~
— enjoyed the historical romance The Sinful Ways of Jamie Mackenzie by Jennifer Ashley. I imagine that this is marketed as a standalone story; however, the hero’s parents and his aunts and uncles (who starred in their own romances earlier in the series) all feature in this story. While I enjoyed this, I don’t think it’s a book I’ll be likely to reread.
— read the science fiction romance Calamity (Uncharted Hearts Book 1) by Constance Fay while on the bus running errands. While I didn’t care overmuch for the first chapter, I was soon enjoying the story and missed my stop…oops! While I don’t foresee rereading this book, I would happily read the next book when it releases next year.
I just downloaded Calamity, thank you!
I hope you’ll enjoy it, Holly!
Hope all is well, Holly. Sending good wishes for a happy and healthy 2024.
