What Are You Reading? (651)

I’m in a little bit of a reading funk after finishing the Dark in You series by Suzanne Wright. I’ve started several books that just haven’t held my interest. Right now I’m reading The Price of Scandal (Bluewater Billionaires #1) by Lucy Score and A Taste for a Mate (Redwood Pack #1) by Carrie Ann Ryan.

I did a re-read of the first two books in the Starlight’s Shadow series by Jessie Mihalik, Hunt the Stars and Eclipse the Moon, in preparation for the release of the third book, Capture the Sun. That lead into a reread of the Consortium Rebellion series, Polaris Rising, Aurora Blazing and Chaos Reigning. I requested the audiobooks from the library and switched between reading and listening. I enjoyed the narrator a bit more for the Starlight’s Shadow series than I did for the Consortium Rebellion, but overall they were all good. I also reread Sarazen’s Betrayal by Isabel Wroth.

I DNF’d Guardian Mate by Audrey Sharpe. I though the premise was interesting, but it ended up being rather boring and didn’t hold my interest. I also DNF’d Icebreaker by Hannah Grace. Both MCs were very immature and the story just frustrated me.

I read/listened to and really enjoyed The Price of Scandal by Lucy Score, a contemporary romance featuring a female billionaire MC. I also read/listened to Kiss Hard by Nalini Singh, the forth book in the Hard Play series. I liked the storyline and the romance.

I am currently reading Capture the Sun by Jessie Mihalik and listening to Strictly Business by Carrie Elks. I have the audiobook for Rogue Darkness by Dianne Duvall queued up next.

What are you reading this week? Any new favorites or books that drove you crazy? Share!

I just started UNRIVALED, an m/m hockey romance by new-to-me authors Ashlyn Kane & Morgan James. There’s a bit of a HEATED RIVALRY element to the story, but it’s set in a world where it’s nbd to be gay in the NHL and both MCs are out, so the focus is more on the opposites-attract/rivals-on-the-ice vibe. It’s ok so far, but I’m not sure I’m interested in reading any more books in the series.

    Over the past week ~

    — This month’s book group choice was a reread for me, Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir. I liked it more on this second read but still not quite as much as I like The Martian.
    — read a short science fiction romance that was a Cinderella type story with an android as one of the leads. I enjoyed Once upon a Dance by Kim Fielding but had hoped for more.
    — started and finished (late!) a very enjoyable contemporary romance, Mrs. Nash’s Ashes by Sarah Adler. This book involved a road trip of two acquaintances after a cancelled flight. One of them is carrying some ashes of a deceased friend that she hopes to bring to an old love of said friend. There was great banter in this book and some funny situations which had me laughing aloud. A second storyline followed the WWII era romance of two women in Key West, a military nurse and a pigeoneer.
    — a picture book that proved to be a very quick read, Love in the Library by Maggie Tokuda-Hall. It was the story of the author’s grandparents who met and married while bring held in an American incarceration camp for Japanese Americans during WWII.
    — a nonfiction book that I read for artistic inspiration, How to Be a Rule-Breaking Letterer: A Guide to Making Perfectly Imperfect Art by Huyen Dinh. It was a pleasant affirming book and very pink!
    — I also started a number of books that I put aside and read a host of book samples.

My 2 top books this week were ROGUE DARKNESS by Dianne Duvall and MISS DETERMINED by Grace Burrowes. I loved them both.

I just started Remember Me, Mary Balogh’s new release. I’m enjoying it much more than the first book in the entire series.
