I’ve been binging the eff out of Suzanne Wright. I absolutely love these shifter books. I’m actually having a hard time figuring out what I’m going to read after I’m done with them. I’m currently reading Dark Instincts (The Phoenix Pack #4) & expect to finish it today. After I finish it, I’m going to start Savage Urges (The Phoenix Pack #5). I’m so sad that there are only eight books in the series & I’m almost halfway through it already. Booooo.

I loved Pretend You’re Mine (Benevolence #1) by Lucy Score so much that I decided to listen to it on audio. It’s really freaking good.

I finished Guardian of Shadows by Michelle Manus, then read the next book in the series, Guardian of Madness. I really enjoyed both books, but it ended on a cliffhanger I wasn’t expecting. I thought this was a trilogy and I’m upset that the next book isn’t out yet. Boo for waiting.

Casee and I were discussing the Mercury Pack series by Suzanne Wright, so I decided to re-read it. I finished Spiral of Need, Force of Temptation and Lure of Oblivion. I’m reading Echoes of Fire now. I’m not sure if I’m going to read the final book in the series, Shards of Frost, or look for something new to read.

    Over the past week ~

    — For my distant book group, I read The Sculptress by Minette Walters. This was a mystery so an unusual choice for us. It focused on an author interviewing a prisoner who had confessed to a violent crime. I wouldn’t say that I recommend the book, but it proved a gripping albeit gory read.
    — the contemporary romance, Off the Map by Trish Doller which is the third book in a series but would stand alone well. It strained credulity in some ways (one of the secondary characters has dementia), but the banter, humor, and setting (Ireland) had me enjoying it nonetheless.
    — read Silent Order: Iron Hand by Jonathan Moeller which is a science fiction/space opera that happens to be currently free for US Kindle readers. It was a pleasant read but I don’t expect to read on in the series.
    — A blogger I read recommended the science fiction romance ~ Taken to Voraxia (Xiveri Mates Book 1) by Elizabeth Stephens. It was a pleasant read, but I’d hoped for something a bit more compelling.
    — very much enjoyed Yours Truly by Abby Jimenez. This was a slow burn romance featuring two emergency room doctors which made me laugh a lot but also covered serious issues like depression, anxiety, organ transplants, and miscarriage. The hero … gasp … wrote letters to the heroine which was fun. I foresee reading this again and would recommend it.
    — also enjoyed The Study of Poisons by Maria V. Snyder which retold a story I’ve reread several times from the point of view of the other major character. I think this book would be most enjoyed by fans of Poison Study (first published in 2005); it left me wanting to reread that book!

I just finished REVERB, the fourth (and final?) book in Julie Kriss’s Road Kings series of Rick star romances. This features the group’s guitarist and the journalist who has been hired to document the Road Kings’ reunion tour. Their story has been in the background of the previous books, so it was nice to have it front & center. As usual, Kriss writes a smooth, engaging story featuring various tropes: grumpy-sunshine, opposites-attract, age-gap (ten years). I’m not sure if this will be the final book in the series because there were a couple of secondary characters Kriss may have been setting up for future books, but either way I highly recommend REVERB and the entire Road Kings series.

I just finished Second Time Around by Melody Carlson. I enjoyed it, the story was good and the characters were likable.

I’m currently reading The Island Villa by Sarah Morgan. Her books are always a good read.
