What Are You Reading? (277)

WAYR-New

Holly: I’m finally reading again, though things are crazy (still) so my reading time is limited.

I reread The Return of Eden McCall by Judith Duncan, an old Silhouette I read at least once a year, and Ride Steady by Kristen Ashley. I also started rereading Linda Winfree’s Hearts of the South series in anticipation of her upcoming releases.

For new reads I read White Tiger by Jennifer Ashley. It was really good. I’m almost finished with Allegiance of Honor by Nalini Singh. It’s so great catching up with all my favorite past characters.

Rowena: It’s been a pretty awesome reading week for me. I read several books and most of them were great. I did so much reading that I am 7 books ahead in my Goodreads Reading Challenge. Go me!

I finished Because of Miss Bridgerton by Julia Quinn which was a sweet romance then I read Nobody but You by Jill Shalvis (favorite read of that series), All Chained Up by Sophie Jordan (great set up for the series), Ignite by Karen Erickson (another good start to a new series), Undecided by Julianna Keyes (probably my favorite read of the week) and I just finished This One Moment by Stina Lindenblatt last night and sadly, that was the only book that I didn’t enjoy. I kept reading the book, hoping that it would get better but I finished and was disappointed. The hero and the heroine drove me nuts but the writing style didn’t work for me either…which is a bummer.

Today, I’m starting Dirty by Kylie Scott. This is going to be my first book by Scott and I’m anxious to dig in but I have to work first. Adulting sucks.

What are you reading this week? Any new favorites or books that drove you crazy? Share!

Books read this past week. I enjoyed them unless otherwise stated ~

    — re-read (parts t I found icky) Ilona Andrews’ Bayou Moon and Fate’s Edge which are books two and three of The Edge series.
    — Daniel James Brown’s The Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and Their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics for my book group
    — Rachel Grant’s romantic suspense book Cold Evidence (Evidence Series Book 6). I didn’t care over much for the characters at the beginning of the story; however, they grew on me. The storyline also strained credulity. This is probably not a book I’ll re-read; however, it was enjoyable in its way. Though it’s book six in the series, it can stand alone well.
    — Press Start to Play which is an anthology of short stories pertaining to gaming (about which I know nothing!). Some of the stories did not speak to me, some I liked, one made me laugh, some were eerie. One I thought was excellent and I recommend it: ‘Select Character’ by Hugh Howey.

I tried to new-to-me authors this week with good results:
    – Irresistibly Yours by Lauren Layne. I hadn’t read any of her books before, but I’m a big sports fan (mainly football and baseball) so I loved the idea of a kind of nerdy female sportswriter. I thought it was cute and sweet and I will definitely try more of her books.
    – I’ve Got My Duke to Keep Me Warm by Kelly Bowen. It didn’t blow me away, but it was good enough that I would read more of hers. I’m always looking for new historical authors.
    – Love Hate Relationship by Jessica Prince. I’m about 2/3 of the way through and really enjoying it. I was in the mood for a growly alpha, which the hero definitely is, and a strong heroine who gives as good as she gets.

I got to read some this week! I read The Undoing, the newest Call of Crows book and loved it. I also caught up on a Cynthia Eden Intrigue series that I keep forgetting I started, so every book is a new adventure, ha. These last two books were better than the previous ones. And finally I read Sleepless in Manhattan by Sarah Morgan, which was good but not my favorite Morgan. Yay! I should have some time to read next week too. Double yay!

I recently read a couple of Laura Florand’s books, All For You and Chase Me. They are sort of related to her Chocolate series, especially The Chocolate Touch. If you haven’t read her books, they are all so good, sexy & emotional with some humor thrown in. I am just starting The Duke and I by Julia Quinn. First time reading this series, if you can believe it! Loving it so far!
