Holly: I didn’t have a lot of time to read this week, but I did read some truly awesome books. I read Fire Touched, the upcoming Mercy Thompson book from Patricia Briggs. I was really irritated with Adam (and Mercy, too, if I’m being completely honest) after the last book, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I’m happy to report things were settled to my satisfaction. The Score by Elle Kennedy is the upcoming book in her Off Campus series. I didn’t think I’d love Dean as much as I did. It was a great read. Truth of Embers is the third book in Caitlyn McFarland’s Dragonsworn trilogy. Book one left a lot to be desire and I flat DNF’d book two, but this one turned out to be a great read. The characters really grew and came into their own and the world was bright and imaginative. I’m glad I picked it up despite my feelings about the first two.
I re-read Lady Luck by Kristen Ashley and finished reading Coming Back by Lauren Dane, which I really enjoyed. It’s a menage book, so it was pretty hot, but it took a pretty real look at what the inside (and the view from the outside) of a menage really looks like.
Rowena: It’s been a busy week for me and I haven’t had the time or the energy to read anything new but I did read The Deal and The Mistake by Elle Kennedy. I can’t wait to dig into The Score. sigh
That’s it. I don’t know what I’m going to read next. Suggestions?
What are you reading this week? Any new favorites or books that drove you crazy? Share!
Read the last full novel (demon bound) in Meljean’s Guardian series* or start in on the novella in that series? I’m a little eeked out by Alice….
*yes, yes, i read them all out of order. It’s still all good:)
Books I read this week:
— I re-read with pleasure Joanna Bourne’s historical romance My Lord and Spymaster.
— AND The Forbidden Rose (The Spymaster Series Book 2) by Joanna Bourne
— AND Joanna Bourne’s Rogue Spy.
[The fun thing though about reading this now five book series is realizing how interwoven they are. In Rogue Spy, for example, you learn of a couple arriving from France and then realize that they are the hero and heroine of a different book in the series. Likewise, a crime lord orders ice cream at an ice cream parlor, and you realize it’s for an injured child who is the heroine of a yet another book in the series. It has made re-reading this series all the more pleasurable and given me more admiration for the author to keep all these threads in order.]
— Star Dust (Fly Me to the Moon) by Emma Barry and Genevieve Turner — this was a historical romance set in the 1960s during the space race. It was quite enjoyable.
— the novella (CURRENTLY FREE) A Midnight Clear (A Fly Me to the Moon Holiday Novella) by Emma Barry and Genevieve Turner
— for my book group ~ The All-Girl Filling Station’s Last Reunion: A Novel by Fannie Flagg. It seemed a tad silly for the first fifty pages, but I ended up enjoying it.
I just finished a really good romance called Good Time Bad Boy by Sonya Clark. There’s a pretty big age difference between the two leads – he’s a washed up, 41 YO country singer and she’s a 26 YO who’s working her way through college slowly and working as a waitress. She comes from a rough background and is very mature for her age, so the romance totally worked for me in spite of that difference. He’s actually the one who has the most growing to do. He has to face his demons and lay them to rest, make peace with his family and figure out what he wants to do with his life. They both acted like adults, there were no communication breakdowns and I just generally loved it.
