Holly: I did some re-reading this week. Saving Grace and Honor’s Splendour by Julie Garwood and Lord of Scoundrels by Loretta Chase. All three because JenB hasn’t read any of those books. Trying to convince her to try them reminded me how much I love them and I had to read them again.
Yesterday I read Liam Takes Manhattan by Thea Harrison. This comes after Shadow’s End and completes a 3-book story-arc. I liked the story itself, but I’m frustrated with how it ended. I WANT MORE! Curse you, Thea Harrison!
I started Coming Back by Lauren Dane this morning. It’s early yet, but I’m sure I’ll enjoy it. Her books never disappoint.
Rowena: It looks like I’ve found my reading groove to close out the year because I finally got some books read. This week I read Dirty Deeds by Megan Erickson, Controlled Burn by Shannon Stacey and Saving Grace by Kristen Proby. I really enjoyed Dirty Deeds. Controlled Burn was good but I wasn’t a fan of that ending. It just ended without any kind of resolution. I needed to know how they were going to work things out but we never got that so that bummed me out and then with Saving Grace, I just, I don’t even know. Everything happened so fast and I get that it had to because it was a short story but I finished that book not a believer of them as a couple. The hero fell too hard with little convincing, which surprised me considering he was this rich billionaire dude and for him to not be wary to marry some girl that he’s only known for a couple of days…I didn’t get it. The heroine was hard to swallow as well. She was written as this clumsy woman with a great sense of humor but mostly, she made me roll my eyes because her sassy attitude felt forced and I don’t know, maybe if the book had been longer, she would have won me over but it wasn’t and she didn’t.
I started Did I Mention I Love You by Estelle Maskame yesterday but I haven’t gotten far into the book so I can’t tell you if I’m enjoying it or not. I’ll let you know next week. 🙂 After this book, I’m jumping into Lord Dashwood Missed Out by Tessa Dare and I know that I’m going to love it. It’s a Dare, that’s how much confidence I have in her.
What are you reading this week? Any new favorites or books that drove you crazy? Share!
I felt the SAME way about Saving Grace by Kristen Proby! I get that it was a novella, but the whole thing just came off as rushed and unbelievable. Such a bummer because I think it had potential! The Book Disciple
Books read this week include:
— Art Before Breakfast: A Zillion Ways to be More Creative No Matter How Busy You Are by Danny Gregory. This was a quick and inspiring read.
— Julie Murphy’s young adult novel Dumplin’. I recommend it.
— Barbara Metzger’s historical romance Truly Yours. It was a pleasant read.
— and The Wicked Ways of a True Hero by Barbara Metzger which was the third book in the same series; it was also pleasant but not something I’m likely to re-read.
— Melissa F. Olson’s paranormal romance Boundary Lines (Boundary Magic). I enjoyed it, and I am eager to read more by this author. It’s the second in a series beginning with Boundary Crossed (Boundary Magic), and I recommend reading that book first.
— Tessa Dare’s historical romance When a Scot Ties the Knot. It was quite entertaining and had me laughing out loud a time or three.
— Currently reading and enjoying Samantha Young’s MOONLIGHT ON NIGHTINGALE WAY.
— Started but might give up on Jessica Lemmon’s Bringing Home the Bad Boy; I’m not in the mood for it right now.
I haven’t read a thing in…ugh I don’t even know, maybe months? (Stupid work and school, grumble.) I had been thinking I’d try Controlled Burn once I’m on winter break, but I have heard several people say they were kind of disappointed. I was a little underwhelmed by the first one too so maybe I’ll pass on the second.
