Holly: I barely read anything last week and this week started out the same. Then, on Tuesday, my house was quiet and I was in the mood, so I started reading. When I finished on Thursday I’d read 8 books. 8 books in a week isn’t that great for me, but 8 books in 2 days isn’t too shabby.
I re-read three Linda Howard books: Cry No More (thanks to Azteclady’s review), which devastated me just as much this time as the first. Seriously, this book packs some crazy emotional punch. If you haven’t read it, I highly recommend you do…but make sure you have a big box of tissues near at hand. Heart of Fire features one of my favorite romance novel heroes, ever. I love Ben Lewis and Jillian Sherwood is the perfect match for him. The Amazon jungle setting isn’t one I thought I’d like, but Howard is such a master at pulling me in, I felt like I was on their adventure with them. Another highly recommended read. Last, I read Now You See Her, a much underrated book, in my opinion. I love Sweeney and Richard. The story only covers a few days, but the romance works very well. I also re-read Opening Up by Lauren Dane, so I can review it with Ames.
For new reads, I read Back to You by Lauren Dane, a great reunited lovers story. Vaughn and Kelly were everything I’d hoped they’d be. Sweet by Tammara Webber was wonderful, too. I loved Boyce and Pearl. On the recommendation of JenB, I bought Sincerely, Carter by Whitney G, a friends-t0-lovers themed contemporary new adult. It was such a cute book. I really loved Carter and Arizona. Finally, I read Archangel’s Enigma by Nalini Singh. When UPS dropped the ARC off at my house I did a happy dance and immediately hid it in the back of the closet so I could finish my to-do list for the day. You guys. Nassir. SO MUCH LOVE. The whole book was amazing, of course (I mean, it’s Singh) but Nassir. Sigh.
I started Shadow Woman by Linda Howard this morning. I feel like I tried to read this when it was first released and DNF’d it. We’ll see how it goes this time around.
What are you reading this week?
Now You See Her is one of my favorite older Linda Howard books; I should read it again.
Some recent reads:
Against the Tide by Elizabeth Camden
Fall With Me by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Lisa Desrochers’ A little too far, A Little Too Much, and A Little Too Hot
the graphic novel A Game for Swallows: To Die, to Leave, to Return by Zeina Abirached
Joanna Wylde’s Silver bastard
Renovation by Lane Robins
and a re-read of Thea Harrison’s Oracle Moon
I feel like Now You See Her is so underrated. The story is so wonderful, and I love Sweeney.
