Holly: I didn’t get a chance to read as much as I would have liked this week. Things were crazy in my personal life, plus I’ve been trying out new e-reading apps (Nook, Kindle, UB Reader, Google Play Books, etc), which means I was switching back and forth so much I only partially read a lot of books. (I hope to do a post about my experiences -and the pros and cons – of each…someday.)
I read Suddenly One Summer by Julie James, which prompted a re-read of Love Irresistibly (there was an excerpt at the back of SOS, which is how that came about). LI is such a fun read, and SOS was truly wonderful. James writes such smart books. It’s hard not to love them. I also read The Deal by Elle Kennedy. Rowena has been raving about the book and I found it just as well done as she said. I loved the characters, the friendship and the overall story.
I also re-read Easy by Tammara Webber, since I was thinking about it after The Deal. I started Echoes by Laura K. Curtis, but I set it aside about 1/4 of the way in. The plot is a bit slow-moving, but I quit because I thought it was a paranormal (my fault for misreading the blurb) and I lost interest when I learned it wasn’t. I plan to go back to it later, when my expectations aren’t set on something else.
Last night I started Shards of Hope by Nalini Singh. ADEN!! I’m about halfway through and…yeah. It’s everything I’d hoped it would be.
Rowena: It’s been a slow reading week for me (what’s new?) because I’m wrapped up in my TV Shows. We had some good Olicity scenes last week on Arrow and then a Steroline love scene in a Steroline heavy episode on Vampire Diaries. My shipping heart has all but exploded all over the place so reading took a back seat this week.
The only book that I read this week is One of the Guys by Lisa Aldin (cute book!) but I just finished that book since I actually started it last week. Still, it was cute and cuddly and everything I like in my contemporary YA’s so kudos to Lisa Aldin on her debt book. Be on the look out for that review soon(ish). 🙂
I plan to get some reading done tonight since I have absolutely no plans. I can’t even remember the last time that I didn’t have anything basketball related going on over the weekend. This is great! I plan on digging into my eARC of Suddenly One Summer by Julie James and then finishing up Branded by Fire by Nalini Singh. I’m still reading the Psy/Changeling series (and I’m still loving it too). I can’t wait!
What are you reading?
I’ve got about a hundred pages left of Lara by Bertrice Small. It was recommended to me by a Facebook friend, and I’m ready to be through with it. I love the world building, and the mythology behind the different races, but I’m a bit tired of the plot.
I’m also rereading Dragonfly in Amber by Diana Gabaldon, just a chapter here and there, and loving it as much as I did the first two times.
Oh wow, I read Outlander and thought it was too long so I didn’t even bother moving on with the series. I wonder if I should change that since I see nothing but good things about them everywhere I turn.
I read and re-read the first three books for years, but I slowed down after the…sixth? seventh? They are very absorbing, and some passages have stayed with me for years, but there is no resolution, so…
Also, RRRJessica had a post not long ago on how very violent towards women they are, so there’s that too.
Does anyone else look at their Kindle carousel and think that I need a book randomizer to pick books for me and force me to read to at least 5 chapters, cuz I can’t decide what to read? Work has been crazy busy (I’ve been averaging 60+ hr wks) and my reading has suffered tremendously. I read and loved Rock Hard by Nalini Singh and rather than start a new book, I keep going back and rereading that one. I think I’ve read it about 4 times already. I keep running across everyone raving about The Deal. I really want to try it but I’m not a big fan of NA. For some reason, reading about young 20 somethings/college age kids is off putting to me and I don’t know why. Every time I go the Amazon page with the intention of taking the plunge, I keep hesitating. This may be a go big or go home moment for me 🙂
YES! That happens to me all the time. Both the rereading and not knowing what to pick up next. I do like that the Nook has customizable shelves which helps when I’m trying to decide what to read next (If the Kindle offer the same I don’t remember seeing it, but I’m primarily a Nook reader).
I really liked The Deal. Rowena raved about it for weeks before I tried it, and I’m sorry I waited so long. But I don’t really mind NA (as long as it’s done well).
I just turned a disgusting, deep shade of green–you have Shards of Hope and I don’t! *sob*
Sorry #notsorry
You b!tch…
*sob*
Hahahaaaaaa! Second that! 😛
I’d tell you it’s terrible and you aren’t missing much, but then I’d be lying. 🙂
I read Nalini Singh’s Rock Addiction and *looks around and whispers* I didn’t like it! It read like a Silhouette to me, young and with little character development. We had the virgin librarian (cliche) who had 50 million orgasms her first time and what was with all the sex? Nearly every page had them going at it like rabbits! I got bored! I also thought the language was coarse – overuse use of the F word, like NS had discovered this new word and had to use it in every sentence! And then when Fox got his tattoo – I cringed at the wording . . it was awful 😀 At the end when he was singing and Molly was stood there with tears streaming down her face – well the tears were streaming down mine but for a totally different reason 😛
*Slinks away*
Will read Rock Courtship next as I have already got it . . . hoping things pick up!
As I’ve told Lori and Carolyn over at Two Old Farts Talking Romance, it makes me sad when I recommend this book and the other person doesn’t like it. I still like it very very much, while I see how the “too much sex” charge is well justified.
It was certainly very different from the Psy/Changeling series – but the strange thing is I don’t like her Guild Hunter series 😀
*whispering* neither do I /*whispering*
What’s funny is that for years I only liked the Guild Hunter series. Now I read all three and like them. Interesting how our tastes change.
Willa, I felt the same way you did the firs time I read RA. All the complaints you made are the ones I made, too. It wasn’t until I read it a second time that I felt differently. But then, I really like NA. So..maybe that’s why? I know NS said Rock Addiction is adult fiction and not new adult, but it read more like NA to me (the intense emotions, etc).
I have a busy weekend so I don’t know if I’ll get any reading done till later next week, but I really want to read helenkay dimon’s new RS. What I should be reading is the first in her contemporary series, Chain of Command, because I’m sure it’s good and I have an eARC, but I just can’t shake myself out of my RS binge no how much I’m trying to force myself to read other stuff.
I’m feeling that way about PNR right now. I keep thinking I need to read other stuff, but..eh. I can’t really seem to get into much else.
This week I read The Sleeping Night by Barbara Samuel. Fantastic book Highly recommend if you are looking for a friends to lovers story set in post WWII Texas. . I also read Worth Waiting For by Bay Matthews.
