I have a strong aversion to romantic suspense. I can rarely suspend disbelief enough to enjoy the implausibility of the suspense plot with the romance. As a result, I try to stay away from them. I started this one because I thought it was a paranormal romance. Something about the description made me think it featured shifters. I was wrong about that, but not about the suspense not working for me.

My problem with the book begins and ends with the heroine. She’s a total idiot. She lets everyone walk all over her. She’s supposed to be some tough chick, but she never thought for herself. Considering the way her husband, her best male friend and the detective working on her case all evaded her questions, lied to her and ordered her around I figured she’d eventually get tired of it. Alas, no. She just took it. And took it. And kept taking it until the end of the book.

Add into that a ridiculous plot full of more holes than an entire pound of swiss cheese slices and my head was ready to explode. And that was before the heroine decided she was supertough and could take care of herself against trained assassins.

The premise was good and I am curious about one of the brothers, so I may try the next book. Hence the reason I gave this 2 stars instead if 1.

Ha, this book definitely has the plot holes! I still liked it, but you can’t think too hard about this one. This series has a bit of crack for me–I know it’s not that great, but I still want to read the books.
