What Are You Reading? (202)

Holly: I’m still rereading a lot of Kristen Ashley.  I can feel you judging me! It isn’t my fault. She addicting. I read Sweet Dreams, Games of the Heart and The Gamble. I also read What I Did for a Duke by Julie Anne Long and Forever and a Day by Jill Shalvis.

As for new books, I started Finding Pride by Jill Sanders, a free downlaod, but I only got 2 chapters in before the horrible editing made my eye start twitching. And that’s saying something since I’ve been on a Kristen Ashley glom. I read another free read, Saving Forever: Part 1 by Lexy Timms. The writing kind of bothered me but the story was interesting enough that I finished it. As the title implies, the story ended on a cliffhanger. I was tempted to buy part 2 until I saw the price.  I refuse to pay $3.99 for a novella, especially when the writing isn’t that great.

Finally, I read Father Found by Judith Arnold. I’ve read books by her in the past and really enjoyed them. Sadly, this one was dated and frustrating. The heroine was a prig, the theme outdated and in the end I just wanted to pull my hair out as I read. It did serve as a nice reminder that romance – and society – has come a long way in 15 years. What was considered an unforgivable sin in 1997 – fathering a child out of wedlock with a one-night-stand – is much more accepted today.  Not that I’m saying this is something we should celebrate, but the heroine coming down on the hero for it when he was doing the right thing just made me angry. I don’t know that I would have said the same in the 90’s. Progress.

  1. What’s wrong with Kristen Ashley? I love her stuff! Super Hot. Her latest books have diverged from the standard plot-lines, and it’s making me very happy. I love my bad-boy alphas.

    • There’s nothing wrong with KA except I can’t stop reading her. And reading her. And reading her. She’s addicting.

      • Okay, so that’s not entirely true. There are many things wrong with KA books. The lack of editing tops the list, but her weak heroines and formulaic plots are right up there too.

That doesn’t stop me from loving them.

  2. I’m reading Bride for Real, the second half of a –surprise!– duo. I mean, when you read a Harlequin Presents, you expect it to have a freakin’ HEA! Makes me extra happy I got both books from the library.
