Rowena: I’m finally getting back into a reading groove since my Julie James glom and I’m one happy camper because of it. This week, I read (or tried to anyway) Elite by Rachel van Dyken and ended up DNF-ing it because it wasn’t for me. The main character grated on my nerves, the love interest full on bullies the main character, humiliates her in front of pretty much everyone at school and while that didn’t sit well with me, the thing that pissed me off the most was that the love interest was only doing it to “protect” the main character. Meh. I’m not wasting any more time on that one. After that, I read Sometimes it Lasts by Abbi Glines and really enjoyed it. It’s a New Adult romance and the fifth entry into the Sea Breeze series. The hero was swoonworthy and the heroine got on my nerves but in the end, I didn’t hate her so that’s good.
After that book, I read Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. Holy goodness, I really liked that book. I got really wrapped up in Cath and in her story. The love interest was too cute for words and I completely adored him. This was definitely my favorite read of the week. Now, I’m reading Notable by Marni Bates. I’m only on the first chapter so I can’t tell if I like it or not yet, but so far it’s okay. We’ll see how I end up liking it.
Holly: I got my replacement Nook in the mail this week. A few weeks ago it froze while loading and wouldn’t turn on. I did a factory reset and it came back up, but the same thing happened about a week later. I took it to my local B&N and after doing some troubleshooting they said they’d issue a replacement. Which was awesome since I wasn’t currently having any issues with it. They couldn’t only offered me a preowned replacement, but they told me if I called corporate they’d mail me a new one. All-in-all, great customer service.
Since I got the new device I haven’t had a lot of time to dedicate to downloading apps, organizing books, etc. Which means I also haven’t had a lot of time to read. I’m hoping to get back to it this weekend.
I did manage to read Lone Wolf and Tiger Magic by Jennifer Ashley. I haven’t read any of the previous books in the series but I didn’t feel like I needed to. The novella, Lone Wolf, was a good place to start. It gave me a good introduction to the world and Tiger Magic was great. I’m anxious for the next book.
What are you reading this week? Anything good?
This week I read Slight Change of Plan by Dee Ernst. The heroine is 55 – and it was nice to read about an older heroine for a change. I thought the book was a well written mainstream. A little romance. Lots of interesting secondary characters. I for sure will be reading more by this author. I also read Christmas In Snowflake Canyon by RaeAnne Thayne. I liked this a lot too. I would call this a “sweet” romance and a nice addition to the series.
I’m interested in reading a romance with an older heroine. I’ve read two (at least that come to mind) and I enjoyed them both quite a bit.
i read One Good Earl Deserves a Lover by Sarah MacLean, loved it! Nerdy heroine, too fun. Also re-read The Madness of Lord Ian MacKenzie, a fav.
I adored that book. MacLean has become my go-to historical romance author for great reads.
