Holly: I’m still in the grips of a reading slump. I’ve been trying to read new books all week, but mostly I just end up skimming books I’ve already read. I did read Walking Disaster by Jamie McGuire last night. That book is, no joke, a disaster. I’m really disappointed in myself for not stopping 50 pages in. It was full of WTF, the characters were crazy (and not in a good way) and the writing disjointed. Plus, the epilogue was…just wow. I don’t even have words for how crazy it turned out to be.
As a palette cleanser, I’m reading Enthralled, an anthology featuring a new Iron Seas novella from Meljean Brook and a Children of the Moon short by Lucy Monroe (Lora Leigh and Alyssa Day also have stories in this collection, but I don’t read either of them). I’m hoping these break me out of the reading doldrums.
Rowena: I’m on a New Adult kick this week. I read The Secret of Ella and Micha, The Coincidence of Callie and Kayden and The Forever of Ella and Micha, all by Jessica Sorenson. For some reason, I couldn’t get enough of books by Jessica Sorenson and now that I’m finished with them, I’m missing them. I’m greedy for more. Too bad for me, the books that I want to read don’t come out for months. Damn.
I picked up Any Duchess Will Do by Tessa Dare to read this weekend so that’s what I’m reading now. So far, it’s pretty good and I’m confident that Tessa Dare will deliver the goods so I’m looking forward to continue the book once I’m off of work.
What are you reading?
I just finished Frost Burned, the latest Mercy Thompson book. It was so darned good, one of those books where you want to slow down at the end because you just don’t want it to end. As soon as I finished, I wanted to read it again.
Reading A Negotiated Marriage. Even if I hadn’t known it was by the same author who wrote Escorted, I think I would have guessed — it’s a less edgy version of the same book.
I just started Surrender to the Earl by Gayle Callen. I haven’t read enough to know how I feel about it to know if it’s wonderful, but it’s got a blind heroine so I’m very curious to see what happens.
I just finished The Chocolate Rose, by Laura Florand. I would recommend any of her Chocolate series books.
Reflection Point by Emily March. Really enjoying it.
Three Nights with a Scoundrel by Tessa Dare, Bite Me, Your Grace by Brooklyn Ann, Confessions of an Improper Bride by Jennifer Haymore (in audio), How to Create the Perfect Wife: Britain’s Most Ineligible Bachelor and his Enlightened Quest to Train the Ideal Mate by Wendy Moore, and Then Came You by Lisa Kleypas.
I found a couple of Janice Kay Johnson books in the immense TBR, and since I remembered that I liked her, I started.
I remembered right. Finished Between Love and Duty (Superromance, good characterization and believable relationship by the end, only a minor plot quibble), and starting Dead Wrong (romantic suspense–fighting myself not to read ahead to find out who to look for, because so far there are plenty of red herrings but no obvious pointers. Well done!)
