What are you reading, 8/9/12? (119)

Casee: Next week is the last week of summer for my kids. Then it’s back to school. It’s been crazy at my house this week, getting ready for our last summer vacation next week, getting ready for school (is there anything worse than back to school shopping with a 10 year old?) and getting ready for my sister to visit. With all that going on, I’ve turned to reading as an outlet. I’ve read more this week than I have in the whole month of June.

Last night I started Samurai Games by Christine Feehan. I have loved the GhostWalker series since its inception. In fact, now that there is a book that is only released once a year I realized last night that I have to re-read the series so I can get the cobwebs out of my brain. I can’t remember certain things (though I always remember the characters). Another book finally came out in Shayla Black’s Doomsday Brethren series, which I finished in about a day. Embrace Me at Dawn was everything I expected and more. Last but not least, the newest in Joss Ware’s Envy Chronicle series, Night Forbidden was amazing.

Now that I’m back in the reading swing of things, I am going to be my usual neurotic impatient self with these series books. Like, I can’t wait for Wyatt’s book in Joss Ware’s series especially since she dropped a bomb about him.

Rowena: You’d think that because my daughter is at camp all week that I’d be reading a bunch but that’s not the case. I’ve been pretty busy doing blog stuff that my reading time at night has been taken up by that. I did finish a new adult book this week that I absolutely loved. It was Easy by Tammara Webber and many thanks to Ames for recommending that book to me because I loved it! I also started reading two books this week, I’m reading Loving Lady Marcia by Kieran Kramer and The Way to a Duke’s Heart by Caroline Linden. I’m not far enough into either book to say much but I’m pretty stoked to continue reading both books.

Holly: I’m reading The Short and Fascinating Tale of Angelina Whitcombe by Sabrina Darby. I’m only a few pages in, so its early to tell but I’m definitely intrigued.

What are you reading this week? Tell us about it. Is there anything that you’ve read this week that you’re itching to discuss, share, pimp, whatever? We’re always looking for new books to read so please, pimp those books!

Let’s see, I read Forever and a Day and loved it! Then it was Sweet Talk by Julie Garwood, which I had high hopes for, and that was such a disappointing read. Now I am starting Stygian’s Honor by Lora Leigh. I hope this one sort of make up for the last release but from some of the reviews I’ve read…I might have to lower my expectations.

@Tabitha: What went wrong with Sweet Talk? I haven’t read a Garwood (a new one anyway)in years but I have seen a lot of people say that they’re disappointed. Would love to hear your thoughts on that book.

Also, wasn’t Forever and a Day by Jill Shalvis good? I loved it.

@krazymama_98: How are you liking those books? I’ve got them in my TBR pile but haven’t touched them yet. I miss her historicals.

  3. I’ve been on a bit of a science fiction kick lately and this week alone I have read four of them. Alien Lockdown by Vijaya Schwartz, The First Human War by Frank Calgano, Wolves and War by Candy Rae and Non-Retrieval by Raymond M Towers. Of the four the ones I am interested in following up (getting the second in the series) are Wolves and War and The First Human War. Not sure yet if there is a follow up to the last as I haven’t finished it yet. However so far it is a wonderful read.

I just finished reading A Notorious Proposition by Adele Ashworth & re-reading Ravishing the Heiress by Sherry Thomas. The former novel was a slightly flawed book. Much was made of the hero’s headaches from being attacked, then it was never mentioned again. As for Sherry Thomas’ book, it’s just a wonderful novel that is a keeper.

I’m now reading The Way to a Duke’s Heart by Caroline Linden.

@Rowena – I didn’t much like the hero’s behavior. He blew hot and cold with the heroine. And Olivia just excuses his behaviors.

    And the suspense? Ha!

Also, I might just be nitpicking but I thought Olivia looking for a new job was just a tool to put her in the midst of the FBI situation. After the opening scene, there was no other mention of her job searching again! Her being an IRS agent didn’t really do much for the story either, imo.

Grayson’s family issues and his nephew having problems also just sort of faded away. I just didn’t get it.

I finished the book with a “this is it??” reaction.
