When Dragon Bound by Thea Harrison (website to come) arrived in the mail it came with a full page of author quotes, a letter from the editor and a hand-written note from the publicist telling me they were excited about this one. That never happens. Oh, of course I get emails about books the publishers are excited for, but it’s rare that a book arrives with this much fanfare. Especially one that isn’t going to be released for months and months.
Even so, I went into it with low expectations. I’m not much of a paranormal romance fan in general, and dragons in particular don’t appeal to me. The first few chapters were good, but they weren’t amazing. I was just beginning to question the good judgment of all those authors/publicists/editors/etc when BAM, I got sucked in. The turning point for me was when the hero and heroine meet. Though the world-building is interesting and unique, it isn’t perfect. There were things that bothered me about the story and world-building. But the small annoyances were overshadowed by the amazing romance. The romance steals the show. The romance is amazing. Love. Love. LOVE the romance.
In her letter, Harrison’s editor said something to the effect of “The first thing I did after I read this book was tell someone about it” (I’m paraphrasing because I don’t have the book with me). The first thing I did after I finished the book was email Casee.
Do you remember that OMFG OMG OMFG feeling you had after you finished Dark Lover, before JRW went totally batshit crazy and ruined everything? Or when you read Nalini Singh for the first time and you immediately wanted to start the book again as soon as it was finished?
That happened to me today with Dragon Bound by Thea Harrison. I’ve already read it twice, and I started it at 6 this morning.
That’s an exact copy of the email I sent her. I still have that OMFG OMG OMFG warm-fuzzy feeling. I ended up reading it 5 times in 3 days. Tracy borrowed the book from me this past weekend and I’ve had anxiety about it ever since. I WANT MY BOOK BACK! I can’t remember the last time I was this excited about a book. (well, ok, it might have been Meljean Brook’s The Iron Duke,or Archangel’s Consort by Nalini Singh, but that isn’t the point)
Today I’m going to give you the opportunity to find out if it’s as amazing as I say. Berkley has kindly offered two FIVE (5) ARCs of the book for us to giveaway. If you win, we ask that you tell someone about it. Post about it on Twitter or Facebook. Write a review for Goodreads (or heck, even for us..we’d love a guest review of the book). Call your best friend and tell her, or your mom, or sister, or the stranger behind you in the supermarket checkout line. Just tell someone. (if you could tell me, too, that would be great..I’ve been dying to talk about the book)
To enter, leave a comment on this post telling us the last book you finished and just had to tell someone about. Contest ends Feb 2, 2011 at 11:59pm. Disclaimer: You must include a valid email address with your comment to be eligible to win.
This book will be available from Berkley May 3, 2011. You can pre-order it here or here.
I felt that way about the Iron Duke and before that I read a Sandra Brown book that surprised me. I always post a comment on Good reads BTW.
Would love to have that feeling again. Put my name in hat.

That would be Nalini Singh’s first Guild Hunter novel, Angels’ Blood. The series is just phenomenal, and I had never before thought of angel’s as sexy heroes. She just has a super talent for character building and scene imagery. Book 3 came out yesterday and I already got my copy!
The last dragon book I read was Keri Arthur’s Destiny Kills, and it was excellent! Would love to read another dragon series!
kristincheee@aol.com
Wow! It’s just a great feeling in itself to hear someone so excited about a book!
I would absolutely love to read it.
The last book I read that I wanted to tell everyone about was The Garden by Elsie V. Aidinoff. The author is over 70 and this is her first book, which is fantastic. The book is also just a great new look at an age-old tale.
rachel@racheljameson.com
Hmm so I went through my blog posts for the last little while, and the one that really jumped out at me, the one that I know I showed about 20 people and still to this day love is

That would be Blood Challenge by Eileen Wilks. I love this book and all the books in the series so much.
I would really like the opportunity to see if Dragon Bound has the same effect on me.
kathybaug at aol dot com
‘The Murder Room’ by Mike Capuzzo, written like fiction but about real life crime solving. I like telling people since most of my friends like NCIS or similar shows. It gave great insight into the criminal psychology.
Raeliksen by Renee Vincent was one that I had to talk about. It was the first book, that I can remember, that made me cry. I was so upset when I finished reading it that I emailed Renee to let her know. I just finished reading the 2nd book in this trilogy and can’t wait for the last!

Last night I started and finished Tara Janzen’s Loose Ends, the final book in her Crazy/Loose series. It was brilliant. I’d downloaded it that morning and was so excited about going home to read it after work that I told a couple of my colleagues about it, both of whom have asked to borrow the first books in the series. I also recently recommended N.K. Jemisin’s first two books to a friend and to my bookgroup – with great feedback from everyone. I’d love a chance at Thea Harrison’s book, so count me in!
Oops, forgot the email: orange_1949@live.com
The last book that I felt that way about was Ascension by Caris Roane. I had to call 3 friends right away! Reminded me of JR Wards BDB series.
Oops. I forgot the email address too!
skoverstreet@aol.com
oh, that would be “revolution” by jennifer donnelly. read that one in one session, because it was such a great read & made me all teary eyed (mostly in a good way), so i’m kinda telling everyone about it & lending it out.
thanks for the awesome giveaway. dragons are hot & your mail totally sold the book to me. i can so relate. LOL.

Married By Morning by Lisa Kleypas. I remember as soon as I was done I immediately called my aunt to talk about it. I am also really big on the BDB series and I still tell people about it.

Magic Bleeds by Ilona Andrews. I have read this book about 50 times and cannot wait to see what new adventures and relationships will come up in Magic Slays.
smccar1 at hotmail dot com
I think the most recent book I felt this way was Cherrie Lynn’s Rock Me, it had an amazing hero and a very sweet romance. I ended up tweeting about it as well as commenting/reviewing it on Goodreads. I love discovering books like that because then you have to go get that author’s backlist ASAP – more books to read!

o_O Omg it sounds fantastic 😀 I must have it! Ok if open to all then I am so in.

Hm, last book I went gaga over. Ok Room by Emma Donoghue, I did not go gaga but it was so disturbing and people should read it
Wow, OK, why to make me excited to read this book! Geeze! If it were in stores, I would already be in the car!
As for the question…. When I finished readong Eternal Hunter by Cynthia Eden, I had to tell, like, anything with ears. I swear, that book is one of the best Paranormal Romances’ I’ve ever read.
justforswag(AT)yahoo(DOT)com
Most definitely have to be Silver Borne by Patricia Briggs.
Or Spellweaver by Lynn Kurland.
I read them both at the same time and gushed over both endlessly.
And I hope that Dragon Bound is as amazing as you say.
tehbeeb@ gmail.com
The last book I had to tell everyone about is actually a series. I just finished Shadowfever by Karen Marie Moning, and I had to tell everyone about how much I loved the Fever series and the world she created.
I love Katie MacAlister’s dragon books, so I’m looking forward to this one.
tlwalls@ballstate.bsu.edu
I loved, loved, loved Vampire Empire: The Greyfriar. Loved it, and had to talk about it immediately!
aryzane at gmail
The last book that I had to tell everyone about was Dianne Slyvan’s Queen of Shadows. I wasn’t expecting much from a something that been done to death (vampires) but I loved it! I love dragons, so this sounds like a pretty awesome read! annhonATaolDOTcom
I felt this way after reading The Iron Duke by Meljean Brook. I got my cousin and some friends reading it because I thought it was so great!

hankts@internode.on.net
The last book I couldn’t wait to tell everyone about was Simply Irresistible by Jill Shalvis.
The last book I read that I’ve been raving about is Wicked Intentions (Elizabeth Hoyt). I read a review here by Ames about it. I’ve used it in a book swap where you HAVE to use a book that surprised you in a good way.
I’d love to read something else that was a pleasant surprise like that!
goddessaniATgmailDOTcom
The last book I read and couldn’t stop talking about was Vampire Empire: The Greyfriar. I talked my son’s ear off about it, and listed it as one of my favorite books of the year. It’s a steampunk, alternate reality, vampire adventure – and I loved it.
Barbed1951(at)aol(dot)com
For me the last book that I finished and JUST had had had to share and continue to share is “City of Ghosts” by Stacia Kane. I must admit to reading the series several times *cough* 10 time and counting! This sounds like a wonderful book that I can’t wait to get my hands on! Thank you VERY much for the opportunity to win!

Courtney Milan’s Unveiled. That book is fantastic. Both main characters allowed to be flawed, avoidance of a big misunderstanding, and just plain good story telling. Loved it!
laeta@bellsouth.net
The Hunter Games by Suzanne Collins. I talked so much about it, my friend took the recommendation to her Book Club and they are all reading it right now.
Outcast Mine by Jaime Craig. I was so happy when I was able to finish my review and then rec it to people. I still can’t wait to buy an e-book copy on February 14th.
would have to be jeannine Frost’s Grave series. I also felt that way about Nalini’s and Kresley Coles the first time I read them.
Guild Hunter Series – Nalini Singh. I’ve been hearing about this book. Would love to read this book.
Email: waterfairy.in AT gmailDOTcom
The last author I recommended to EVERYONE, including my non-romance reading friends, was Julie James. Her books are so fun.
Would love to win a copy of this! Nalini Singh raved about it recently, if I remember correctly.
Thanks!

I love dragonshifter stories, so I’m definitely putting this one on the wishlist. Just yesterday I finished a book that I want to tell everyone about. It was Bitter Night by Diana Pharoah Francis. Wow. If you like your UF dark, this book is for you. Best of all, the sequel (Crimson Wind) just came out and I can’t wait to read it. Pocket After Dark has the whole book up on their site as a free read until 2/15 I think and that’s how I found it.

The last book I read that had me wanting to tell anyone who would listen to read would be Meljean Brook’s The Iron Duke..LOVED it..the writing, the steampunk worldbuilding, Mina the heroine (she was so unique, amazing & complex) and the romance of course!!!
You have intrigued me with Dragon Bound..please enter me..Thank you 🙂
negine@gmail.com
I would say Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater. Loved that book.
Crystal816[at]hotmail[dot}com
I would have to say Moon Called by Patricia Briggs. I’m a newbie to this series but when I read the first book, I immediately told my brother. He’s read and enjoyed them, too!
Recently there have been 2 books that I finished and just had to recommend. The first was “The Bloodgate Guardian” by Joely Sue Burkhart. Great paranormal. The second was “Unveiled” by Courtney Milan, great romance, loved it. Both fantastic reads in different ways.
Jennifer Rardin’s Once Bitten, Twice Shy (andhten all the rest as they came out). I love that series and am very sad that she died and won’t be able to write any more Jaz and Vayl stories 🙁
The last book that I was squeaky-noises about in that way was Robin McKinley’s Pegasus.
betastories.fd@gmail.com
I forgot to mention earlier the Blades of the Rose series which I also learnt about here. The 4-pack was the first thing I downloaded when I got my new Nook!
goddessaniATgmailDOTcom
If it’s as good as you say, I want a copy. :o)
It was 1:30 am when I finished Play Dirty by Sandra Brown and there was no one around to talk to.
The last one I read that I had to pimp out immediately was The Perfect Family from Kathryn Shay. Not a romance, but a fantastic book.
I just finished Eloisa James’ “When Beauty Tamed the Beast.” I enjoyed it more than any historical I’ve read in a while, and I’m not normally a fan of hers. This had such fun, witty banter, plus it was sexy and surprisingly touching. And, the hero was a grouchy, brilliant, cane-using doctor, a la TV’s “House.” Lots of fun!
admcmaster@msn.com
Have been dying to get this one since I saw a blurb last year. Great to see such wonderful comments on it!
Last book I finished I had to recommend to my friends who enjoy urban fantasy/paranormal romance was Allison Pang’s debut novel, A Brush of Darkness. It has some great new elements in it.

I’ve been following Thea on Twitter and I’m really looking forward to DRAGON BOUND. Katie MacAlister has a fun & sexy Dragon series. But the last book that had me dying to talk to someone about…was Immortal Beloved by Cate Tiernan. I had no expectations and she blew me away with the writing and the story. I can’t wait for the sequel. Edi
I have heard so many good things about this book that I can’t wait to read it. I’ve read a lot of good books since then, but Magic Strikes would have to be my last OMG OMG book. The ending was priceless, and I was dying to read the next book. Thanks.

Angel’s Blood. WOW! wasn’t expecting it to be so good!

I haven’t read any Nalini or Meljean books but it sounds like I should add them to my TBR mountain.
Probably the last book I was anxious to read was Shadowfever. It became the first book I wrote a review for after a very long time.
This book sounds pretty cool. I haven’t read a Dragon type book I’ve liked since grade school and we started reading Anne McCaffrey’s Harper Hall Trilogy. I have since tried the first couple of books in Katie MacAlister’s dragon series but they didn’t really work for me. Hopefully I’ll win a copy of Dragon Bound and enjoy some Dragon adventures again.
Thanks for the contest 🙂

Meljean Brook’s The Iron Duke was definitely the book I couldn’t stop raving about. Also, Karen Marie Moning’s fever series. I was so glad that I waited so I didn’t have to die from the cliffhangers.
Thanks for the opportunity~!

how did I miss this post?? The last book that i read that I could not wait to tell someone about was probably Ilona Andrew’s Magic series. I came late to those books and just recently read them and then promptly devoured all the books in a week.

Hard Evidence by Pamela Clare. It’s like crack, I read it everyday for a week AND it got me hooked on the I-Team series.I called my friend – who despises romance – right after and forced her to read it,and she’s hooked on it too. We bond over our shared love for Julian. I want one of those. It almost makes me want to become a reporter working the cop beat too, just so I could meet one of him. Your post has made me super excited over the book, which also kinda kills me given it’s months away.

Nalini Singh and Illona Andrews are two authors I talk about when asked about books. Love when I finish a book and can just bask in the glow.

I just finished Archangel’s Consort and I’m really having to restrain myself from reading it again. Love that series and those characters! If the romance in Dragon Bound is as amazing and addictive as Elena and Raphael’s, then I can’t wait to read it.
jbrink83 at hotmail dot com
I am thinking it would have to be the Nice Girls Don’t series by Molly Harper. I loved these books and quoted from them constantly through twitter. I called my stemother and told her You have got to read these. LOL. Can’t wait till the 4th.

I’ve already told everyone I know about Jeaniene Frost’s books. So I began reading Ilona Andrews’ Kate Daniels series. I have read them again, and again. I can’t stop! I’m obsessed. They are that good! Yes, I would love to read Dragon Bound. wonttorit (at) yahoo.com
This book looks awesome. The last book, that I finished and wanted to rave about was Drink of Me by Frank. It has great world-building and terrific characters. I really didn’t want it to end.
marlenebreakfield(at)yahoo(dot)com
Please put my name in as well. I love dragons, but they are hardly ever well done.
Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress series – got my friend hooked on them this past week!
moonborne(at)hotmail.com
I really really like the look of this series and that snippet has sold me! Put my name down! 😀
I’ve had a recent good run of reading really good books and I add to the choruses about The Iron Duke and Archangel’s Consort – but there was a book that I read just before Christmas called Master of Crows by Grace Draven. It is a wonderful fantasy romance in the same vein as Patricia Briggs and Anne Bishops’ books and I have been raving about her ever since!
I have been oogling this book for a while now, I have a serious dragon weakness and cannot wait to read this book!
The last book I read and told someone about was actually this weekend, I just discovered Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark Hunter series. I know, I think I might be the last one to discover these, but I devoured the first two books this weekend and shoved them in my friends hands this morning and said “Read these, no really, go home tonight and read them!” She laughed, but texted me a little while ago telling me she is hooked now too. Can’t wait until she catches up with me so we can talk about them 🙂
Thanks for the great contest!

This sounds so good!! The writing reminds me of Shelly Laurenston which is a very good thing! Thanks for providing this giveaway!
Stacia Kane’s Downside Ghosts was the last series I’ve swooned over to anyone who would listen. It was out of my comfort zone, but she made her worldbuilding so visual it was hard not to be sucked in.
Great contest – it sounds like a wonderful book!

my most recent was shadowfever.. a fabulous series finale .
intqa{at}yahoo{dot}com
My most recent was Nalini Singh’s Archangel’s Consort, I absolutely love both her psy/Changeling and Guild Hunter series, they’re ansolutely brilliant.

The excerpt convinced me I should reads this.
Last book I read that I told everyone about: Just One Taste by Louisa Edwards.
Put my name in the hat, I hadn’t heard of this book before, but the excerpt has really made me to read it.
The last book I just had to talk about was Nalini Singh’s Archangel’s consort – my friend innocently asked what I was reading and was treated to my raving about the whole series, which then segued onto the psy/changeling series.
freyavej [at] gmail [dot] com
Sounds good! Please enter my name, and thanks for the opportunity. Email is klcoppock[at]hotmail[dot] com. The last book I told everyone about: Shadowfever by Karen Marie Moning!
I’m beginning to love dragon stories. G.A. Aiken are pretty good too.

I finished reading one book that I took right to my Griefshare Book club: Randy Alcorn’s The Goodness of God: The Assurance of Purpose in the Midst of Suffering.
I also am in the last book of the Stieg Larsson’s trilogy. The first book (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo)made me feel like I had missed reading awesome intrigue and thrillers with originality. Book number two (The Girl who played with Fire) was equally spellbinding, if not as tightly written. I am deeply engrossed in book three (The Girl who Kicked the Hornets Nest).
I would love to win an ARC copy, I love books that deal with dragons, intrigue, and that spin a good tale.
The last book I had to tell someone about was The Wind-Up Girl. It was a lot of conversations like, “Have you read this? Have you HEARD about it? WHY NOT?”
