Diamond Dust

Diamond Dust

The partially open French doors caught Tyler’s eye. He dropped his tie, grabbed up an apple from the massive fruit bowl decorating the kitchen counter and ate it as he wandered to the balcony railing. An incredible view greeted him, with the mountains rising behind the Whitehorse city streets. The lack of skyscrapers added to the beauty, and he breathed deep to fill his lungs with fresh air.

A faint scent of human made him turn, but there was no one there. Only the door he’d left open behind him, and at the far side of the deck an open lounging area with a hot tub, the lid strangely askew.

A hand draped over the far edge, just visible from his new position.

Hell.

Tyler raced forward, reached into the water and scooped up the limp body of a blonde woman. Her head had been resting on a drink holder, the only thing that had kept her from becoming completely submerged.

“Wake up, little mermaid.” Tyler cradled her against him. He nudged the door open and brought her inside, dripping wet, examining her face for a reaction. She was breathing, but shallowly. He lowered her onto the couch then pulled a handy throw blanket over her shivering torso. “Can you hear me?”

Her lips moved, eyelashes fluttering. Nothing but slight muttering to his question.

Damn it. He had to call someone, and now. He leaned over her to snatch the phone from the side table. Her arms flailed. In his unprotected position, one hand connected sharply with his nose, and he grunted in pain.

Ignoring the phone for a second, he tucked her in again, holding down her arms to stop her from hurting herself or taking more pot shots at his face. “You don’t need to hit me, I’m trying to help you.”

“Bear…”

The word whispered past her lips, and Tyler paused. Leaned in closer and sniffed.

The scent of wolves clung to his waterlogged woman, but she wasn’t wolf. Human through and through, yet the fact she’d just called him a bear?

Something was happening he wanted to get to the bottom of.

“Can you hear me?”

Her lips moved steadily, drawing his attention to them. For the first time he paused long enough to look the rest of her over. Her blonde hair stuck up in spots, the pale colouring all the way to the roots. Her skin was pale as well—whether from soaking in his tub or her natural colour, he wasn’t sure. The deep red of her lips contrasted sharply against her skin, a delicate pout forming on their soft surface as she attempted to speak.

Speaking of bears, his was at full alert. The beast bumped to the surface, keen on him shifting for some reason. While he was the bear and the bear was him, there was one part of his brain that remained independent. His human side reasoning, rational. His animal side more…well, animal. Earthier and more connected to the wilder roots of shifterdom.

He understood why his bear was interested. Pretty face and pretty body, the swells of her breasts rose and fell as her breathing evened out and grew stronger. That was the reason he was staring at her chest, to make sure she was recovering from her ordeal. Not because he could see straight through the wet shirt and the bra underneath it. Not because the lush redness of her lips seemed to be reflected in the tips of those breasts…

Tyler shook his head to make his brains settle back in place.

Damn bear.

ARC Giveaway: One Sweet Ride by Jaci Burton

Posted May 7, 2013 by Holly in Giveaways | 107 Comments

Before we get into any pesky little things like ARC giveaways, let’s take a minute to deal with the important things. Like how mother-effing hot this cover is.

Must.Not.Lick.Screen.

Book Cover

Seriously, Jaci Burton has the most amazing covers. Even if you don’t want to read the series (and that’s just silly, because they’re awesome) they’re worth buying for the covers alone.

Alright then, moving on…

We have FIVE (5) ARCs of One Sweet Ride to give away.

Gray Preston was born into money, but he’s built his racing empire on hard work and muscle. And now that Gray has millions of fans, his senator father sends one of his aides, Evelyn Hill, to elicit Gray’s help in garnering votes for the upcoming national election. Gray wants nothing to do with his estranged father’s campaign, but Evelyn can be pretty persuasive. She’s willing to learn about racing, and maybe even get a little dirty.

Evelyn’s number-one goal is politics, which makes working with Gray difficult, because his only passion is fast cars. As she and Gray spend time together, he teaches her about the sport he loves, and she learns a lot about the man behind the wheel. The more she learns, the more she wants him. But any desire that threatens to derail the carefully laid plans for her future is a dangerous one.

With the passion Gray and Evelyn share running hotter than either imagined, one of them is going to have to compromise, or else run the risk of losing more than their hearts.

Burton’s entire Play-by-Play series is great, though I admit I have a weakness for professional athletes. What do you think about them? Leave a comment on this post for a chance to win. Please note: You must include a valid email address with your comment to be eligible. Contest ends 5/14/13 @ 11:59pm.

This book will be available from Berkley June 4, 2013. You can buy it here or here in e-format.

ARC Giveaway: Sweet Enemy by Heather Snow

Posted February 4, 2012 by Holly in Giveaways | 39 Comments

Today we have a copy of Sweet Enemy by debut author Heather Snow, coming Feb 7 from Berkley/NAL.

Sweet Enemy…
A Veiled Seduction Novel ~ Book One

Geoffrey Wentworth, a war hero and rising political star, never wanted to be the Earl, but when his brother dies, he knows his duty—take up the responsibility for his family’s estates. His mother’s definition of duty differs from his, however, and can be summed up in one word—heirs. When Geoffrey rushes home to answer her urgent summons, he finds himself host to a house full of women, all vying to become the next Countess of Stratford. But his love is Parliament, where he wields his influence and reputation to better the lives of ex-soldiers, until a tempting houseguest and a secret from his past threaten his freedom…and his heart.

Liliana Claremont, a brilliant chemist, doesn’t want to be any man’s wife, much less a Countess. If she had tuppence for every time she’d been told her place was filling the nursery, not experimenting in the laboratory, she could buy the Tower Bridge. However, when she receives a coveted invitation to the Earl’s house party, she trades in her beakers for ball gowns and gladly takes on the guise of husband hunter—for the chance to uncover what the Earl had to do with the murder of her father.

Liliana believes the best way to get the answers she needs is to keep her enemy close, though romance is not part of her formula. But it only takes one kiss to start a reaction she can’t control…

Doesn’t that sound great? For a chance to win it before you can buy it, leave a comment on this post before 11:59pm Monday, February 6th. Please Note: you must include a valid email address with your comment to be eligible.

This book is available from Berkley/NAL. You can preorder it here or here in e-format.

Good luck!

ARC Giveaway: Dragon Bound by Thea Harrison

Posted January 26, 2011 by Holly in Giveaways | 91 Comments

Book Cover

When Dragon Bound by Thea Harrison (website to come) arrived in the mail it came with a full page of author quotes, a letter from the editor and a hand-written note from the publicist telling me they were excited about this one. That never happens. Oh, of course I get emails about books the publishers are excited for, but it’s rare that a book arrives with this much fanfare. Especially one that isn’t going to be released for months and months.

Even so, I went into it with low expectations. I’m not much of a paranormal romance fan in general, and dragons in particular don’t appeal to me. The first few chapters were good, but they weren’t amazing. I was just beginning to question the good judgment of all those authors/publicists/editors/etc when BAM, I got sucked in. The turning point for me was when the hero and heroine meet. Though the world-building is interesting and unique, it isn’t perfect. There were things that bothered me about the story and world-building. But the small annoyances were overshadowed by the amazing romance. The romance steals the show.  The romance is amazing. Love. Love. LOVE the romance.

In her letter, Harrison’s editor said something to the effect of “The first thing I did after I read this book was tell someone about it” (I’m paraphrasing because I don’t have the book with me). The first thing I did after I finished the book was email Casee.

Do you remember that OMFG OMG OMFG feeling you had after you finished Dark Lover, before JRW went totally batshit crazy and ruined everything? Or when you read Nalini Singh for the first time and you immediately wanted to start the book again as soon as it was finished?
That happened to me today with Dragon Bound by Thea Harrison. I’ve already read it twice, and I started it at 6 this morning.

That’s an exact copy of the email I sent her. I still have that OMFG OMG OMFG warm-fuzzy feeling. I ended up reading it 5 times in 3 days. Tracy borrowed the book from me this past weekend and I’ve had anxiety about it ever since. I WANT MY BOOK BACK! I can’t remember the last time I was this excited about a book. (well, ok, it might have been Meljean Brook’s The Iron Duke,or Archangel’s Consort by Nalini Singh, but that isn’t the point)

Today I’m going to give you the opportunity to find out if it’s as amazing as I say. Berkley has kindly offered two FIVE (5) ARCs of the book for us to giveaway. If you win, we ask that you tell someone about it. Post about it on Twitter or Facebook. Write a review for Goodreads (or heck, even for us..we’d love a guest review of the book). Call your best friend and tell her, or your mom, or sister, or the stranger behind you in the supermarket checkout line. Just tell someone. (if you could tell me, too, that would be great..I’ve been dying to talk about the book)

To enter, leave a comment on this post telling us the last book you finished and just had to tell someone about. Contest ends Feb 2, 2011 at 11:59pm. Disclaimer: You must include a valid email address with your comment to be eligible to win.

This book will be available from Berkley May 3, 2011. You can pre-order it here or here.
