"Wanted: Midwife/nurse practitioner in Virgin River, population six hundred. Make a difference against the backdrop of towering California redwoods and crystal-clear rivers. Rent-free cabin included." When the recently widowed Melinda Monroe sees this ad she quickly decides that the remote mountain town of Virgin River might be the perfect place to escape her heartache, and to reenergize the nursing career she loves. But her high hopes are dashed within an hour of arriving: the cabin is a dump, the roads are treacherous and the local doctor wants nothing to do with her. Realizing she's made a huge mistake, Mel decides to leave town the following morning.

But a tiny baby, abandoned on a front porch, changes her plans...and a former marine cements them into place.

Melinda Monroe may have come to Virgin River looking for escape, but instead she finds her home.

This book has been reviewed by Rowena and Holly. They both loved book and I now I know why. This book is awesome. You can read their reviews here, and here. Since they’ve down a pretty good rundown on the plot, I’ll go straight into what I liked.

I really enjoyed this book. There were some scenes that had me smiling. Like when Preacher insisted he didn’t scream like a girl when they shot the bear. It was a battle cry. Or when Jack’s sisters were telling stories about Jack at their parent’s house. (which Jack’s father lives in my home town. lol ) When Jack’s marine buddies were all bragging about their pregnant wives. I just thought it was so cute how they were so proud. Or how about when Jack told Mel he caught her sister looking at his crotch several times. LOL.

But there were some heartbreaking scenes too. When Mel cried cause a couple offered to take care of the abandoned baby. Or when Mel had her breakdown on the anniversary of her husband’s death. Jack just stayed with her and held her saying, “Let it out.” I could feel her pain. I could also feel Jacks when he was feeling that twinge of jealously that he may not ever measure up to Mel’s late husband.

I heart Jack. He was just wonderful, giving, caring, loving, patient and a nice. He was pretty much the perfect man. I could find no fault with him at all. Sigh, have I mentioned I heart Jack?

So if you haven’t read this book already, you really need too. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series.

  1. My favorite in the series is the last although I have to say VR sets up this universe wonderfully.

Robyn has been my favorite new author I found for the year. 🙂

Hello all, I loved VR, but my fav is Shelter Mountain…Ann’s fav is also great as are the GV series…if you haven’t read Robyn, you should…her characters are so real and as Isabel says you ” feel [the character’s] pain.” Like her, I feel that Jack is the perfect man, but Preacher and Mike aren’t that far behind either…

    Peace and love,
    Paula R.
