I’m Home!!

Posted March 16, 2008 by Holly in Discussions | 9 Comments

And tired and ready for a week long vacation to recover from all the running around we did. I’ll be posting about my wedding/honeymoon on my personal blog over the next few days, so if you’re interested, feel free to stop by.

As for this blog, can you believe I only read one book my entire vacation? While at the Grand Canyon, my husband (tee hee) and I discovered Over the Edge: Death in Grand Canyon by Michael P. Ghiglieri and Thomas M. Meyers. The book details every death ever recorded at Grand Canyon, from accidental falls over the edge to murders as far back as 1000 A.D. It was very interesting, but I’ve begun referring to it as the book of “No Common Sense”. Bascially, it’s a warning to all of us who may visit the Canyon to not leave our common sense at the gate. With the exception of a couple freak accidents (people getting hit by lightening or having rocks fall on them) pretty much every death listed was due to someone not using plain ol common sense.

Although it seems somewhat morbid, the book was actually very interesting and I’d recommend it.

It was kind of depressing, however, and now I need something to cheer me up. Since I haven’t been around for two weeks, I have no idea what y’all have been reading and recommending. Did something wonderful come out in the last couple weeks that I have to read? Something you just read for the first time that I may have missed along the way? I’m really anxious to read a good romance, so give me a rec, will you?

Oh, and just so you know, I currently have 598 unread blogs in my Google Reader. So chances are, if you blogged about a book, I didn’t see it. Feel free to tell me what the book is and leave me the link for it.

I tell you, it’s good to be home!

Update @ e10:46 p.m.: Only 276 blogs left to go through in my Google Reader. Some of you are only getting skimmed, however. Sorry, but as much as I love you, there’s only so much time in a day…

HELP!!! I Have An Emergency Situation Here

Posted May 21, 2007 by Holly in Discussions | 12 Comments

I need serious help, people! I’m in the worst reading slump I’ve ever been in.

Year-To-Date I’ve read a total of 20 books. For those of you who know me, you understand how horrible this is. For those of you who don’t, let me break it down for you.

In 2005, I read something like 370 books. In 2006, that number dropped, but was still fairly high…in the 300’s somewhere. That’s close to a book a day (if not more).

I’m not exactly sure what my problem is, but I think it’s a combination of things.

  1. I’m over paranormals. Seriously over them. I don’t want to read about witches, warlocks, magic, werewolves, vampires, angels, demons or any other paranormal element. I’m totally burnt out on them.

  2. None of my favorite authors have released anything new, or are releasing anything new for awhile. Which means I can’t pick up an autobuy and fall into it.

  3. I’m not sure what I’m in the mood for, but romantic suspense doesn’t seem to interest me and neither does historical romance.

  4. I’ve re-read my favorite re-reads so often I’m sick of them.

I need help. Please! Can you recommend something that’s just straight-up romance? No suspense plot, no paranormal elements, no historical setting? Please?!? I’m desperate!

Maybe a category or anthology? Maybe an old Harlequin?

Save me! Please!!!!

Did You Guys Get It Yet?

Posted May 15, 2007 by Rowena in Reviews | 5 Comments

Did you get your copy of The Daystar? It comes out in print books today and I’m going after work to get a copy for myself. I’m so excited that Con’s book will get to sit right next to Seb’s book on my bookshelf. You guys totally need to go out and get it pronto and read all about the Templars in action. This book in particular was a great one because well, Con was one sexy stud and Lexi was a great heroine! You can read our reviews for this book from Sanctuary’s Finest here and you can also see how much we loved Constantine that we made him a hero of the week over at SF as well.

Here’s the blurb for the story, I promise this book is good stuff, seriously!

Always feeling different from the world around her, a power grows within Lexine Parker. In the light is where she belongs—even as she finds herself thrust into the
nocturnal realm of the Templar vampires.

Scarred by a brutal past, Constantine is a creature consumed with rage. He knows only darkness and sin. Believing he fights a losing battle of redemption, heaven is something he doesn’t dare hope for—until Lexine makes him believe salvation is possible.

Locked away in an ancient castle, they come together in body and spirit, searching for love to chase away the darkness. With Constantine’s soul at stake and Lex’s life on the line, the nights tick down to a cataclysmic event that could tear them apart forever.

This book is the bizomb and ya’ll should totally read it. If you haven’t read this book then you need to hurry up and get with the program because these fierce and sexy vampires know how to put it down, they’re strong, honorable and everything good in this world despite their damned existance. Rene Lyons built a world of strong characters, a family that sticks together through anything and everything and just her take on the whole take on the Templars world is off the chains good.

I mean it when I say that I love this series, ya’ll need to hurry and get your butts over to the nearest bookstore to purchase this book as well as the other books in the series and sit back and enjoy the hours of pleasurable reading that’s waiting for you.

You can also buy the latest Templar book, Lucian’s book here. Another treat for those of us who love hot heroes and sexy vampires!!

GET THESE BOOKS.

The reading order:

-Midnight Sun (Sebastian)
-The Daystar (Constantine)
-Tempting Darkness (Lucian)

What are you doing still reading this post? GET THEE TO A BOOKSTORE RIGHT NOW!

RE: The hub-bub in Romancelandia

Posted May 3, 2007 by Holly in Discussions | 7 Comments

We’ve all been there, done that.

Yes, yes, we know. Reviewers are meanies and poor delicate editors and/or authors don’t understand why we have to be that way.

Is the horse dead yet?

I say we move on.

So, what has everyone been reading lately? Anything I can’t live without. I seem to be in a bit of a slump myself. I’m in the process of reading Raintree Inferno by Linda Howard and unlike many of my fellow reviewing sisters, I find myself enjoying it. I haven’t finished it yet, however, so I’ll reserve judgment.

Care to pimp me something good? Perhaps a historical I can’t live without? A fabulous romantic suspense? A fun erotica that will make me happy?
