** Reader Advisory: This book contains graphic language, threats, general cursing, unpronounceable alien names and a whole lot of passionate sex including a little bondage and some hot m/f/m lust.

“I haven’t exactly been hunting Grebetz’s boss,” Lilly said.
“How about if you elaborate.” Dallas dragged the words out slowly.

He reached for the dagger in her hand and she gladly handed it over to him. What Lilly needed was for Dallas to trust her. She no longer wanted to get away from this man, quite the contrary as a matter of fact. It had been so long since a human male had touched her with the passion Dallas had, and Lilly wanted more of that even if Dallas didn’t believe she had control over his desires.

“I’ll tell you only if I still get my bounty for Grebetz,” she said bravely. Even male companionship wouldn’t keep her fed.

“I don’t think you’re in a position to make any kind of deal, Seraphelium,” Thaegan said.

Dallas turned abruptly to his partner. “Damn it, Thaegan, I’m warning you…” He breathed deeply as if steadying himself before turning back to Lilly. The hard expression on his face mapped emotions she couldn’t read. “Obviously there’s more going on here than we can tell you. We’re both a little on edge. This mission—”

“Oh, cut me some frickin’ slack.” Thaegan threw his hands in the air. “You may be team leader, but my ass is also on the line here. I don’t think a couple of quickies qualifies her to join the team.”

Dallas’ eyes narrowed to deadly slits. “Not that I have to explain anything to you, Ka’al, but we’re looking for something from her, the least I can do is explain why.”

“Oh, that makes perfect sense,” Thaegan said. “She’s some low-life criminal with a nice set of tits who botched up months of undercover work. And when we stepped in and stop her, she tried to gut you with a knife. When that didn’t work, she took me down with her f’d-up witchery. Then, when we’ve finally got her safely under control, she manages to screw your brains out and get you to release her because you didn’t believe a word I said and you let her get you sidetracked and thinking with your dick. And now we’re not going to interrogate the only person who might have some information we can finally use—because Gods forbid we might get all mean and nasty with a beautiful female who also happens to be a suspect.” Thaegan righted the chair where she’d been bound and stuffed his oversized body onto the tiny seat. “And now that I’m all settled into a sweet ringside seat—because I sure as shit don’t want to miss one minute of this crazy-ass show—why don’t we all just play nice in this cozy little sandbox and share a little top secret information? That just about cover it, partner?”

“How about if you shut up and let me handle this my way?” asked Dallas.

“You’ve done a bang-up job so far.” Thaegan leaned back, casually folding his hands behind his head. “By all means don’t let me stop you. Seems like your dick’s got one hell of a plan.”

Guest Review: A Touch of Lilly by Nina Pierce

Judith‘s review of A Touch of Lilly by Nina Pierce.

Ex-Chicago detective Lilly D’Angelo is part of a secret alien race living on Earth. With a gentle caress she can elevate the sexual energy of any male. Apprehending criminals lost in an erotic fugue is almost too easy–until she uses her gift on the wrong alien. Kidnapped and shipped into deep space, Lilly barely escapes with her life. Now she travels the galaxy alone, working as a bounty hunter and hoping to find a soul mate unaffected by her touch.

Agent Dallas Sawyer works for QAL–deep space’s version of the FBI. After a disastrous mission that left a president murdered, his team member executed and Dallas near death, he is determined to take down the assassin targeting government officials. When a sexy human female gets between him and his goal, Dallas and his alien partner find themselves on the receiving end of some wild sex and a proposition that may very well blow up in their faces.

Because in deep space, true love can happen with just a touch.

Lilly D’Angelo was a beautiful, seemingly human woman, living in deep space during the 25th century, working as a bounty hunter. But she had one skill that put her in a different category: she could put any male in a sexual fog with a touch. And she always got her man–sufficiently to collect the bounty on them. That is, until she met Dallas Sawyer who seemed unaffected by her unusual energy and who was instantly attracted to her. He assumed she was a “working girl” because that’s what she wanted to look like as she was trolling the bar in search for her current bounty. (Lilly allowed him to think that as they shared a “quickie” in the street behind the bar.)Lilly knew what she was doing–she had worked in some of Chicago’s most dangerous neighborhoods, keeping to herself, keeping her unusual ability under wraps in the hope that she could have a “normal” life. Until she made the wrong person mad, and she found herself on a space ship with a full load of prisoners, with a life sentence to the sex slave colonies. She knew she would never survive. Her escape meant that she could not return to Earth, but she still had her abilities and her cop training and experience. Lilly didn’t know that she and Agent Sawyer were after the same person.

This novel is filled with action and alien life forms, set in a world that is strange even for Star Trek fans. Dallas Sawyer is partnered with a very strong alien called a Ka’al, one with whom he has formed almost a brother bond. Their initial encounter with Lilly is violent and they hold her as a suspect in the failure of their mission to arrest the assassin they seek. Ultimately, they learn that Lilly is on the same side they are and their relationship ripens into something far different that what it was when they began.

This is an erotic love story set in the universe of the future. It is about terror and hate, prejudice and murder, and lots of other stuff that make up a good action story. But at the core is the relationship between Dallas and his law enforcement partner as they focus on Lilly, learn more about her, begin to break down the animosity that existed initially between the three. It is not a story that is easy to figure out–lots of clues but no easy answers. The reader must persevere and read to the end. But, I think, in this case it is worth it. All the characters are very strong–Dallas and his partner are classic Alpha-males; Lilly is a strong and determined female who has come close to dying and who has found the inner resources she needed to survive. Yet she seeks love and nurture, someone to bring some softness into her hard life. She can be as hard as nails, and she can stand up to any amount of mistreatment. Yet she is, at her very center, the true female who wants and needs the companionship of a soul-mate.

This is really a very interesting love story and in some ways it wanders all over the place emotionally. Sometimes that really bothers me, but not so here. I found that the initial animosity projected by Dallas and his partner toward Lilly to be consistent with the storyline and the action. There’s hot loving here, but it doesn’t take over the story. And the ending is a surprise.

If you are a Deep Space Nine or a Star Trek kind of reader, you will find this story to your liking. It is not overlong but of sufficient length to tell the story. I liked Lilly a lot, and for all his gruff ways, Dallas sounded like a really good guy. When all is said and done, this is a very nice read. I give this novella a rating of 3.75 out of 5.

Guest Review: Bonded Souls by Nina Pierce

Tracy’s review of Bonded Souls (Prequel in the Shifting Bonds Series) by Nina Pierce

After discovering her boyfriend is married, veterinarian Jayda Kynslan decides to give up on men. She has every intention of planting her feet firmly on the path of celibacy—right after one more night of shameless sex with a stranger. A vacation in Montana would certainly ease the pain of betrayal and offer her anonymity.

Police chief and wolf shifter council leader, Cole Takoda, needs a break from investigating the murders of shifters plaguing his town. When a beautiful stranger seduces him at the local tavern it’s more than a tryst…it’s uncontrollable desire. And Cole can’t stand it. To top it off, their quickie becomes a revelation of shifter secrets and unfulfilled prophecies.

The discovery of a dead man in the forest behind Jayda’s rented cabin thrusts her into a foreign world of animal shifters and murder and the man she thought was only a casual diversion seems to be the only one willing to hear her side of the story. Jayda’s just not sure if Cole’s going to take her to jail—or his bed.

The blurb pretty much lets you know what’s happening in the story so I’ll just go right to my thoughts. I thought the premise was interesting but wasn’t quite sure why Jayda felt the need for one night of torrid sex before she became celibate – hadn’t she just had an affair with a married man? Apparently the sex with him wasn’t too memorable. *g*

Despite my misgivings of Jayda’s reasons for her night of sex she manages to pull it off quite well with Cole. With Cole being a wolf shifter – and knowing that Jayda is too although she has no clue – he’s up for some hot and heavy in the backseat of his car.

When Cole is called the next day to the sight of a murder he’s quite dismayed to find that Jayda is the person who found the body. He wasn’t sure if she was behind the murder or not, but that didn’t stop him from again having sex with her. Now I understand that shifters are very sexual people and with Cole thinking that he’s found his mate he’s all over her – but with the distrust that he was feeling towards her it just didn’t feel right for him to be with her while distrusting her.

I thought the story was a cute. The suspense part of it was definitely not complex but interesting enough to hold my attention. Jayda’s wolf found her mate – but she’s a polymorphic shifter which means that her cougar side is just hanging there. I see from reading about book 1 in this series that that issues is dealt with. If you want a quick shifter read then this might be for you.

What I Read Last Week

Posted May 24, 2010 by Tracy in Features | 10 Comments

It’s Monday again. Why does this keep happening every stinking week? lol
Well, I’d love to say that my life is so exciting and I’d love to regale you with many a fun and funny anecdote but the truth is, nothing happened this past week of any import. Just a normal week in Tracyland. Maybe this week will be so exciting I’ll be bursting at the seams next Monday to share things with you. Let’s hope. lol
I read a lot of books for The Book Binge this week in a desperate attempt to catch up. I’m almost all the way through the books from May so I’m making headway! lol Only a few more to go and I’m all caught up – yay! 🙂
So what I read this week:
I started off the week with a new to me author, Marie Sexton, by reading Promises. This was an m/m story about Jared who had lived his whole life in a small town in Colorado except for his years in college. He is gay but pretty much resigned to living on his own for the rest of his days. Then Matt comes to work at the Coda police department and Jared and Matt become instant friends. Jared falls for Matt, but Matt’s not gay…or is he? This was such a damn good story. I liked it so much. I enjoyed the writing and could really feel the things that were happening between Matt and Jared. Good stuff and highly recommended. 4.5 out of 5
Next up was Impulsive by Cathryn Fox. The story of a woman whose lover is killed and she’s turned into a werewolf. 100 years later and she’s scented her dead lover – who’s been reincarnated into Kane…a werewolf hunter. Wow, what a couple. This was read for The Book Binge. 3 out of 5

Next up was Tracy’s TBR Challenge read as well as an FTSP read – Destined For An Early Grave by Jeaniene Frost. I bought this one the day it released and yet it’s sat on shelf til now. I think I was a little leery to start it as I wasn’t a huge fan of book 3. This one was a good read though with Cat running from a man who claimed to be her husband. It was a very emotional book between Cat and Bones and was hard to read at times but it was a good one. 4 out of 5

Next was Out of Bounds by TA Chase. This was the story of a professional basketball star who is gay – but he’s not out (except to his family) because he doesn’t wanted to take the chance that he might be removed from the team. Despite his qualms he begins a relationship with a nightclub owner. Kasey has real feelings for Gram but is hesitant to reveal his personal life to the press. The is a novella and I almost wish it had been a longer book. I felt kind of let down that what Kasey worried about the whole book was almost minimized because the book ended so soon after things happened. Beside that it was good. There was more sex than story imho but the sex was definitely steamy. 3 out of 5
Next up was Line of Fire by Jo Davis. This is book 4 in the Firefighters of Station 5 series – Tommy’s story. He’s pretty much in love with nurse, Shea Ford. She is afraid to get close to him because she’s afraid he is similar to a man in her past. She finally breaks through her misgivings and they fall in love. I really liked Tommy and Shea and they were so cute together – but almost too cute at times but it worked. The suspense part of the story was a little much but a pretty good story. Another Book Binge read. 3.5 out of 5

My next read was a short by Julie Kenner called Wrapped and Ready. I’m not sure what prompted me to pull out a Christmas short in May but I did. The story of Annie who’s had a thing for Brent most of her life – but they come from different lifestyles and she doesn’t think that Brent knows she exists. Oh, Brent knows and when Annie proposes that she get Brent as a Christmas present he’s definitely game. Cute. 3 out of 5

Bonded Souls by Nina Pierce was next. This is a prequel in her Shifting Bonds series. This tells the story of Jayda and how she met Cole (a wolf shifter) and became his mate. She is part of a prophecy and until she went on vacation to get some peace and quiet didn’t even know she was a shifter. Not only a shifter, by a polymorphic shifter – part wolf, part cougar, part human. A Book Binge read. 3.75 out of 5

Next I picked up Sucker for Love by Kimberly Raye for part of my FTSP. This is book 5 in the series and I got about 1/2 way through the book and realized I just didn’t care. I didn’t care about Lil, her family, Lil’s missing friend. Sorry to say the series has run it’s course for me. DNF
Another book I started and just couldn’t get into was Once a Bride by Shari Anton. I don’t have a clue where I got the book but it’s been on my shelf for a while. The story was about a man who accused of treason so goes into hiding and leaves his daughter (age 17) to face his accusers at their home. The man the king has sent to oversee the property while the matter is dealt with knows that he should have nothing to do with the daughter – and she’s pissed off at him for taking over the property – but that doesn’t stop their attraction. Again, I got about halfway through the book and nothing was clicking with me. DNF
Last but not least was another Tracy’s TBR Challenge read. This was The Runaway Princess by Christina Dodd. Though I read all of Dodd’s Darkness Chosen series I wasn’t thrilled with it. I definitely liked this historical book better. It was pretty simple – an easy read with some silly parts but very cute. The story of a prince who finds his runaway princess – only she’s not the princess – just someone who looks like her. No matter her protestations that she’s an orphan from England and her guardian was the one who taught her about their respective countries, he thinks she’s fabricating it all to get out of marrying him and won’t believe her. So was she the princess or not? As I said – pretty cute. 3.75 out of 5
