Kookie over at Bookabulary tagged me to do this months ago and I’m just now getting around to doing it now, my bad Kookie! But here are my answers:

What are your top three book hates?
Bad book covers (ask Holly, she gets mad at me every time I skip a book because I don’t like the cover), authors behaving badly (I won’t pick up their books if they treat readers like shit) and reading a hardcover book with the jacket on. I just hate it.

Describe your perfect reading spot.
The perfect reading spot would be a reading nook with lots of pillows next to a gigantic window that overlooks the lake or the beach. All that natural light and comfortable pillows? I want to be there now…and always. ๐Ÿ™‚

Tell us three book confessions.
– I can’t remember the last paranormal book that I’ve read. I want to say it was a Nalini Singh book but it’s been so long that I just can’t remember.
– I have sat in Church and read from some smutty books. Shh, don’t tell anyone.
– When I used to read print books, I dog-eared my pages to save my spot. For some reason, lots of readers hate this. ๐Ÿ™‚

When was the last time you cried while reading a book?
I’m a crybaby all the time but the one book that comes to mind when I was boo hooing it up was Here’s Looking at You by Mhairi McFarlane. The heroine was bullied when she was in high school and she runs into one of the guys that tormented her back in the day and he doesn’t recognize her at all. ย Her story made me cry my way through the entire thing. It was good.

What is your favorite snack while you’re reading?
Like Kookie, I hardly ever snack while I’m reading but my drink of choice to have on hand is either Dr. Pepper or Snapple Peach Tea.

Name three books you would recommend to everyone.
– For adult romances, Heart of Fire by Linda Howard. It’s one of those books that at first, I had no plans to ever read because it didn’t sound like something I’d enjoy but Holly made me read it and holy crap, it’s STILL one of my favorite books.
– For YA lovers, I’d probably go with The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. It’s a fantastic story about two cancer kids who are just trying to find their own little infinities. I loved it.
– Unspoken by Jen Frederick or Before You Break by Christina Lee. Both are fantastic NA books. Loved them both.

Show us a picture of your favorite bookshelf on your bookcase.

I don’t have a favorite bookshelf on my bookcase. I like all of my shelves. ๐Ÿ™‚

Write how much books mean to you in just three words.
Always an adventure. ๐Ÿ™‚

What is your biggest reading secret?
I don’t think I have one. At least, I can’t remember…sorry!

Bingeaduckia: What Are You Thankful For?

Posted December 12, 2008 by Holly in Features | 9 Comments

Sometimes I think we, as a romance community, forget to take a minute to think about the things we’re thankful for. We get so wrapped up in our own little blogging world we don’t think about all the things we’re grateful for.

When we started putting together this event I emailed some of our fellow bloggers and asked if they’d be willing to write up a brief paragraph about the things they’re thankful for. The response was overwhelming and so humbling. Throughout the week I’ll be posting their responses – both here and at The Good, The Bad and The Unread. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I did.

What I’m thankful for in the romance community?

The online romance community has some of the most generous and open minded and intelligent people I’ve met in my life, and I am very thankful that I have gotten to know some of them better through the years. There are those who champion causes, such as when the SmartBitches spearheaded the Google-bombing of Bill Napoli (sexist asshat), and their compilation of examples of plagiarism in Cassie Edwards’ oeuvre; or when Nora Roberts’ teamed with them to raise funds and awareness for the plight of the black footed ferrets. Or those whose enthusiasm spreads to everyone around them, such Kristie(J)’s Quest for Judith James’ Broken Wing–or Dear Author’s viral promotion of Nalini Singh’s Slave to Sensation. Through the online romance community I have been introduced to Karen Scott (*waving* Hello, pardner!), to lisabea (she who you must blame, she started it all), to Mad/Fatin, AmyC, Christine, sula, the awesome Wendy, our very own SuperLibrarian, Sybil and the duckies, you lady Bingers, the wonderful ladies at Romance Novel TV, and so many more bloggers. Then we have the many many authors: Ann Aguirre, Shiloh Walker, Jaci Burton and so many more authors (too many names, too crappy a memory to name all–not to mention the limited space). I have been exposed to different points of view and all sorts of new things, from reading material to philosophical, religious and political discussions. In short, I’m thankful for all the people I’ve met through the online romance community. Thank you, to each and everyone of you ladies (and gents, ’cause there ARE some out there too).

Being fairly new to romancelandia, I am so incredibly grateful to have found a community that shares my love of romance and reading. For so long, I felt like I was the only person around reading romance. When I discovered this community I realized that, not only was I not alone, but there are tons of friendly, caring people out there just dying to share their experiences. The community has fed my reading addiction, provided me with opportunities to share my thoughts, and introduced me to wonderful women from around the world. I am so thankful to have had this experience to get to know you all. Keep reading! Keep recommending! May the TBR piles continue to grow!

Posted December 11, 2008 by Holly in Features | 0 Comments

Have we got a treat for you in honor of Bingeaduckia! The authors of the Suite 606 anthology have put together a special Christmas-themed round robin story for our enjoyment (and amusement!). And none other than the Grand Dame herself, the Ms. Nora Roberts is kicking off the fun. Readers, it’s our job to continue the story in the comments section. The Suite 606 ladies will also drop by from time to time and help us along with the story if we get “stuck.” Enjoy!

So migrate over to The Good, The Bad and The Unread and join in the fun.

Bingeaduckia: Welcome to the Insanity

Posted December 10, 2008 by Holly in Features | 17 Comments

I come from a big Italian family. Holidays at our house are – as I’m sure you can imagine – crazy. It’s loud, rowdy…and filled with love.

Our little romance community is much like that, I think. We have fights and drama, but we also have a lot of love. Books brought us together, but the love is what keeps us going. Love of reading, love and mutual respect for each other. We might have fights now and again (or as I like to call them..debates) but at the end of the day we’re all here for one common purpose: To share our love of books.

This week, we wanted to remind everyone that it’s all about the love.

In honor of the romance community, Book Binge and The Good, The Bad and The Unread have teamed up to bring you Bingeaduckia!!

We hope you’ll join us in celebrating the online romance community. We’ll have games, excerpts, book reviews, guest spots and giveaways. Did I mention the giveaways?

In keeping with our “together” theme this week, we’re featuring anthologies. To kick things off, I want to know – Do you read anthologies? Why or why not? What are the best anthologies you’ve read this year? What anthos are you looking forward to in the upcoming months?

The celebration is going on until next Wednesday. Be sure to come back and play with us as the week progresses.
